I, too, witnessed the lip synching problem with Lost in Space when I first used the machine. However, I use the optical output and s-video and do not notice these problems anymore. I don't use the remote after I programed the Marantz RC2000MKII. I am very happy with the quality of the product and for the price, would recommend it to anyone who wants to enter the DVD market. |

I've had my DV-414 Player for just over 3 weeks, and everything is superb, the video and the sound is flawless, not only have I done complete testing on this machine with over 20 dvd's and not had a problem since or seen any 'lip-sync' problems as people say for something this good it's really worth the investment. |

Dave from NY has know idea what the heck he is talking about. First, the video is top notch...it equals that of the top line Toshiba models. The Pioneers video output is a little "brighter"than my Toshiba's, but once you've adjusted your TV for it, it is superb. It even passes all the pluge tests and does blacker than black...something some Toshiba's couldn't do. As for audio from analog out for CD...it's equal to the sound from Pioneer's Elite PDF106. Which is to say that it is just OK. However, the sound from the analog out downmixed is one of the best in the business (5.1 to DPL). Unlike the toshiba's which usually sound better in 5.1, rather than 2.0 (downmixed). The Pioneer sounds superior in 2.0 rather than 5.1 (for DVD's which offer it.) If the disc only offers 5.1, it is still equal to the Toshiba"s 5.1...go for 2.0 if they offer it. The Pioneer also has a dynamic compression controller. If you are getting too much compression as Dave is, make sure it's set to off. It will sound much better, especially the bass. The Pioneer also has true 24/96 dacs (not down converted like the Toshiba). I have had know problems with lip-sync problems with my model (Jan'99). The comparisons I did were directly with the Toshiba's 3006 and 3108. Although I still have a 3006 (still a great DVD player) it doesn't offer the features that the 414 does...especially for the price. The 24/96 dacs are a big plus also. One of the spec sheets for the new Toshiba 2109, has it's dacs listed at 20/96, plus it has only a coaxial output (vs an optical and coaxial with the Pioneer). All in all, the Pioneer is a great bargain, even at it's full retail price. Enjoy |

i had the 414 for 3 weeks to demo, it produces a washed out picture, it does not give you what's on the disk, it addes to much processing. The audio is poor, from the analog outputs for CD's, the DD downmix to dpl is weak, the DD surround field is compressed, the 24/94 analog is better than cd just because 24/96 is better. The transport is cheap and noisy. The 414 has pleanty of features 3 video modes, analog DD DNR, the setup is easy except fot the hidden video out menu, the remote is poor and the transport controls suck. If you can find one for under 300, you will get what you paid for. Wait on the new player from Toshiba and Sony. |

I have owned a 414 for about 3 months now. It has performed flawlessly, except for the dreaded 'lip-sync' problem. I have it hooked up to a Sony 915 Dolby Digital receiver via an optical cable. Out of about 25 movies that I have, only one - Austin Powers, has this problem, but it is still unacceptable for a player to have problems of these sorts. Picture quality is excellent, the remote is usable... Another annoying 'problem' has been mentioned in other posts here - the player doesn't remember where you were when you hit 'stop', so re-starting begins at the start of the movie. I know you can mark you spot, but it doesn't seem logical to start over whenever the movie is stopped. Overall, a decent value, but I honestly don't find ANY reason to recommend it over a similairly priced Sony. |

Strength:
Quality, price, read CD-Rs
Weakness:
Ugly remote t's been replaced by the 525 I understand; great product, 100% playback on all types of DVD, great audio quality, even on CD-R which is very rare. |

Strength:
Flawless picture quality, excellent performance and build quality.
Weakness:
Remote could be better I have always had good luck with Pioneer products and this DVD player is no exception. I use this primarily for DVDs and have yet to try it for CDs. Excellent picture quality and has always functioned perfectly. Would definitely buy another Pioneer DVD. Home Theater magazine was right on the money with its review and rating. Strength:
Great feature set for price (DTS, component vid)
Weakness:
Does not operate silently, you can really hear the disc spinning during playback. An overall excellent player, I've had it for 2 years and have had no problems at all, plays everything I put in it. My only complaint (and the reason I'm currently looking for a replacement) is that it is loud. |
