Strength:

Picture quality, menu structure, remote control, outputs, inputs, DTS, DD

Weakness:

Noisy tray and read pickup (fight club especially), minimal buttons on panel.

This was a great purchase for the money which included a pokemon dvd, 5 free dvd's and a $50 rebate. Add it up and it effectively cost me $125 + or -

The reverse slo scan doesn't work well and it doesn't always read every disc's audio format or at least it doesn't default to the disc's best audio format. Subtitles come on for some dvd's which is a pain.

Overall i am pleased, it does the job, excellent audio/video quality with enough inputs/outputs for the time being. It will eventually go into the kids room and I'll upgrade to something more high speed.

Weakness:

I have problems playing audio CDs. Many times the DVD
player would stuck at a track and play the same tone.
Looks like a decoding problem.

An OK product to me only. The TV for audio mode is very
primitive. Will not buy again this brand.

Strength:

Great Player for the price

Weakness:

Needed a internal board replacement after 4 mos.

This product is probably the best of the lower priced DVD players. It offers all the up-to date essentials (ex. DTS). Although it may not have all the bells and whistles of higher priced models, it gets the job done adequately. Only drawback was that it needed an internal piece replaced after 4 mos, but it was covered under warranty.
p.s. if you can hear the noisy tray, you are not getting the most out of DVD audio!

Strength:

This unit boasts a sharp, bright picture and has no problems reading any of the DVD's that I've played. It also reads CD-R's and CD-RW's. The sound quality is very good. This seems to be a reliable product - it doesn't lock up on any disks so far, which is nice. There are also 3 different colour/brightness settings - standard, movie and animation.

Weakness:

Noisy disk tray, and the remote has tiny buttons. With a universal remote, the code (for my Radio Shack 6-in-1) is 571, and it works well.

This is good value for money, and seems to be reliable and quite solidly built. No problems with DVD's - smooth continuous playback.

Strength:

cost, features, simplicity

Weakness:

backlit remote would be nice but not necesary

Great player for someone just getting into home theater or DVD's. Has both DTS and Dolby Digital.

I don't notice loading or playing noise anymore than on any CD player I've ever had.

With DVD and sound formats changing in the near future this player is a can't miss for the price and features.

Couldn't be any simpler to hook up and use right away.

I don't want to watch my VHS tapes anymore.

Strength:

Pictue/sound quality. Ease of use. Good price.

Weakness:

Remote, only 1 optical output.

This was my second DVD player and so far I have not been disappointed. This is a great DVD player for the price. In addition to playing DVDs and CDs it also plays VCDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. Although the remote is somewhat simplistic and "un-stylish" it does the job just fine. I often find myself looking down at the remote to find a particular button. For the past 6 months I have encountered no problems whatsoever. Setup is simple, instructions are straightforward, and performance is very good. This is definitely a good buy.

Strength:

perfect picture and great dolby digital sound. excellent price.

Weakness:

noisy transport.

Its a great player for its price with clear picture and excellent digital sound. like many reviewers there is some noise on opening and closes the tray and at the begining of a movie. All movies the dvd played them with no trouble. It has all the features like others at a lower price, and i think that pioneer produced a great player with high quality internal pc boards.

Strength:

Excellent visual and audio quality. Good value for the cost.

Weakness:

Tray/spin up a little loud

I just purchased the DV-525 about 2 weeks ago. So far, excellent DVD player. Menu options are simple and straight forward. Three audio output options and will play CDR and CDR-W discs! Overall, excellent quality and features for the cost.

I would have to agree with some of the comments made with regards to noise however. If you don't have a closed up shelving unit you will hear it spinning during quiet playback periods. The tray eject is a little rough, but not a big a deal.

Strength:

Price,Performance

Weakness:

some noise at start of movie

not much else can be said really, the unit has high performance and plays very well. The one thing that swayed me is this pioneer scores well in every catagory not just a few. It does everything very well. All the other units had a weakness to thier make-up. although all players are fairly good, reguardless of what you say,the Pioneer stands
at the top for me. reccomended.
