Strength:

Ability to play CDR media and video CD on CDR media

Weakness:

None found yet, perhaps a little in the light side.

I purchased this player as a second unit to use in my production studio, as I am archiving my old vinyl onto CD-R
media, as well as video projects. I needed a player that
would support CD-R media and did not want to spend the
kind of money needed to purchase a Sony with dual pickup.
Overall I am extremely happy, the video quality is excellent as is the audio on DVDs. I compared the video on a VCD that my company produced between this player and the Sony DPS7700, and this player equaled or bettered the sony in this respect.

Strength:

Video and Audio quality, value($50.00 rebate is nice), ease of use.

Weakness:

A little noisy when spinning/reading disc.

Did alot of research in consumer forums like this one before making purchase last week. Narrowed my selection down to Sony 330,530 and Pioneer DV525 before heading into the store. Compared each and easily choose the 525 over the others due mainly to its picture quality, captures more depth and detail. Yes, the Sony 32bit RISC system delivers a smoother slow motion picture, but really, how many times do you set and watch a movie in slow motion without sound? If your looking for a clear excellant picture and sound, the DV525 is the unit for you. It's easy to overlook the little noises the disc reader makes, especially for the money.

Strength:

Sound and Picture quality. Easy to setup. Value. Component output. DTS.

Weakness:

Somewhat difficult to navigate with the remote. Boring display.

I'm a first time DVD owner and I'm amazed with the quality of picture and sound of this unit. I couldn't believe anything could beat the picture of a DSS system. I have nothing to compare with this unit, but for the price I can't lose. I highly recommend this player for those who likes quality and economy.

Strength:

Great Price, Great Picture, Great Sound

Weakness:

Remote too small, No Zoom, No Black Level, Flimsy, Noisy Tray, Bright CD Sound

I recently purchased this unit from Costco for $269. This included 5 free movies and 13 free rentals...Not a bad deal. The picture quality is superb. However, the sound is even better than the picture!!! There is no comparison between this and VHS! I considered most of the DVD players out there...Panasonic, Sony, JVC, RCA, Toshiba, Denon, etc. For the money, I don't think you can find a better deal for what you get. I have yet to have any lip sync problems or any other problems. There are some weaknesses to this player that's why I'm giving it 4 stars: the remote is awful! Too small! The tray is noisy...mine actually sounds like it is grinding. The player is awfully light...I don't think that affects anything but it just seems "cheap". It doesn't have soom like many of the other DVD players in it's price range and it doesn't have the black level so you can do proper calibration of your TV. Lastly, it sounds extremely bright on CDs. I have a Denon CD 1520 that sounds sweet with CDs - this doesn't. BUT that NOT what I purchased it for anyway! So, given all of the weaknesses, I give it 4 stars - I'd give it 4.5 but you can't. For the money, I'd do buy it again compared to everything that is out there for the money. Think about it - $269 plus 5 free movies and 13 free rentals - that's like getting it for about $150 - the price of a good VCR. And since this is a 4th generation player, I think most, if not all, of the bugs have been worked out. What are you waiting for -- GO GET ONE!!!
GOD BLESS!

Strength:

Value!! Sound and picture quality are excellent!! DTS!!!

Weakness:

Yeah, the remote has small buttons. Yeah, the tray is noisy.

I've only owned this unit for a day. However, being able to watch and listen to the Eagles "When Hell Freezes Over", in DTS was an enormous treat. I have to say, that when I unpacked it and started setting it up, the first thing I noticed was how light in weight it was compared to the Sony3000 it was replacing. As a matter of fact, I had told a friend of mine that I would sell him my Sony unit, but decided to hang on to it, just in case. It feels like an empty box when you pick it up! I'm used to buying high end audio equipment where weight is usually synonimous with quality. I'll just have to get beyond that.
Anyhow, the picture quality is identical to the Sony3000, (no better no worse), that's a good thing. The sound quality is better only because I'm able to process DTS now. The on screen menue is inferior to the Sony, and switching between sceens is slower.
For $250.00 (after rebate), you can't beat it. To keep the price low, Pioneer cut corners where they should be cut. They didn't sacrifice picture or sound quality(although this is primarily a function of my preamp/processor). I got what I payed for;an inexpensive DVD player that has picture and sound quality that is equil to other players at 5 times the price. If you're using an outboard processor, you don't need to spend the big bucks on a player.
I won't be picking it up much and I can live with the small buttons on the remote.
I'll get back to you in a month or so with an update. Value is obviously 5 stars. For the money if it lasts a couple of years I'll be happy. Overall is 4 stars. I'll save the 5th star for the big buck players, but then they'll get less than 5 on value.

Strength:

Nice styling, plain and simple

Weakness:

Lack of functions

Great sound and picture. However I can't get my Eagles DVD+DTS to work. My Yamaha receiver RXV-995 is not detecting the dts output at all. The sound is only in plain stereo. Thought that it was a defective disc but the problem recurred again. Did anyone has any problem with a DTS DVD. I am not too sure whether is it my receiver fault or the DVD player fault. Please enlighten. Thank you.

Strength:

Simple, easy to use, excellent quality

Weakness:

Remote not that great, buttons too small

I bought this unit last week based on the reviews here and I am not disappointed. Using it with a Denon 2800 - s-video and optical audio. Spectacular sound and video with the right DVD (like Matrix, Mummy, Titanic etc). Great value.
