Strength:

Performance, features and price

Weakness:

Noticeable noise from the drive mechanisim at quite listning levels

A great product with alot of features for the money. Picture and sound quality really do equal those of units costing much more. I had gotten an even better deal from a vendor at mczone.com for $199 after a fifty dollar rebate that came 60 days latter. Not bad time for a rebate.

Picture Quality and Component Video Outputs

Weakness:

Noisy Tray, of course. Noticable layer changes.

I've used this product for a little over 3 monthes now. I have to say that overall I am happy with this player, as my first. However, I would like to point out that on several movies this player does not seem to handle the layer change very well. There is about a 1-2 second pause while the player changes layers. This problem is annoying enough for me to start looking for a new player that does not have this problem. The player also has a noisy tray, but this problem does not really bother me b/c I listen to my movies loud anyway. I got this player for about $200, which makes this player a good value, but I would not go above $225 price under any circumstance. I hope this review is helpful for those considering this player

Strength:

value, plays cd-r(w), 96 KHz output, simple face

Weakness:

quality issues, remote is only so-so

Purchased from ecost.com for $228, it was shipped to me on time. Setup is very easy, as is to be expected. I have not had a chance to compare it sonically to my Marantz (both run into an MSB Link DAC), but I can't perceive any major differences during casual listening. I have not had any problems playing any discs so far.

The only problem I have found comes when opening the disc tray. Occasionally the disc will get caught when I open the tray, and I have to pull it out manually. I have yet to figure out what causes this. It's fairly minor, but really shouldn't happen.

Weakness:

slight noise while playing

this dvd player is pretty good. plays dvd,cd,cr-r and cd-rw.
very clear picture and sound is fantastic even through my sony pro-logic. Used the matrix as test disc and it was perfect, except for slight pause at layer change. Plenty of outputs to suit most needs. The cd portion of the player is also very good, but DVD is it's strength. Got it at Rex electronics for $249. damn good deal. this player is perfect to start out with and will fit into the bedroom when
dvd recorder/players hit the market. Recommended.

Strength:

Plays CD-R's and VCD's

Weakness:

not the 300 disk dvd changer I really wanted

Plays CD-R's and VCD's which the comperable Sony does not, I bought the Pioneer 525 and my best friend bought the sony 330, they are the same except for the vcds, when I switched to the optical in the sound quality really improved, use of the s-video did the same for the video, great product, have never had a problem, use it as a cd player all the time too

Strength:

Very good picture and sound.

Weakness:

None except the one described below

Upgraded from DVL700 (first generation) to fourth? generation machine. I still have the DVL700 to play my collection of laser discs.
The 525 has played all discs in my collection without any problems including what seems to be a problematic disc, Matrix. However I purchased Tina Turner: Live in Amsterdam, and the player refuses to play, pixelating and freezing.
The disc plays fine on another 525 and on some other machines (tested by the disc vendor and Hi Fi Corporation. The player has now been sent to the local Pioneer agents and I have been waiting now for three weeks. I have received some update calls from Hi Fi Corporation and it appears that the agents do not know what the problem is but that a spare part ?? has been ordered.
It seems to me that the DVD technology is still not without its problems. I have never hear of a CD machine that plays some but not all CD's
Lets hope I get my player back in one piece soon and that the problem is solved.

Strength:

Picture quality, Audio quality, inexpensive

Weakness:

3secScan, remote control

I thought for my first DVD player, that this was a decent player for under $200. The picture quality is very nice, and audio quality is also very vivid, and clear when playing DVDs. On the other hand, I also bought this player to play CD's, being I didnt have a CD player at the moment. I found that the sound quality when playing CD's was not very good. But overall for the price, I think this DVD player is worth a try for someone who wants to buy an entry level player. My next step would be to buy a progressive scan player, but not until I get my moneys worth from this player.

Strength:

Quiet operation(?????),Decent CD Playback,Excellent video functions,quick loading.

Weakness:

Light weight, rattle from the top cover, front panel could be better

All around a decent player for under $300.Analog output on CDs is good and have had no problems with palyback so far. Many people here may not have had a first or second generation DVD but compared to this one they were very slow loading.I was shocked on how fast DVDs loaded up.From what I have seen there are ways to make this a better player for under $100 and get rid of the rattle. As such I would recommend it to anyone if it can be had for under $300.I purchased mine for $130 as a demo minus remote.

Strength:

Price, performance, ease of use

Weakness:

no zoom...don't know if it is really needed but it doesn't have it

We did a fair amount of research when we purchased this DVD player...in my book, I think this is the best DVD for the money. I can't see a reason to spend more. The sales guys were trying to push the higher models...but if you already have a receiver with a Dolby Digital decoder, then forget spending the extra cash to buy the DVD models that have the decoder. As for mutiple disk models...do you have a multible cd changer already? If yes, you don't need that either. $250, or less is the way to go and Pioneer does it probably better than anyone else, read the other reviews, for more info.

Strength:

Sharp, clear picture. Vibrant colors. Output options. Simple to operate.

Weakness:

Noisy drawer. Pauses at layer change.

I just got the machine, and so far so good. I can't pass total judgment on it as of yet, but I will pass on what I know so far. The DV525 is the latest addition to my HT project, and at $169 it was worth it. I chose the multiple output features of this "cheaper" set rather than the lack of digital or RGB outputs for the fancy slo-mo and zoom features. Personaly I have no use for slo-mo or zoom when whatching a movie. If the director had wished for certain scenes to be in slo-mo or zoomed in on, he would have filmed it that way for me. The sound quality is acceptable for casual CD listening, though I don't intend to ignore nearly $10k in audio equipment in my other room to use a DVD deck for music. The drawer noise some reviewers speak of is only there when you open or close mine. During playback It makes no noise. If it does, I don't hear it 'cause guess what?...the soundtrack of the movie burries it! I don't mind the little glitch when it swaps layers...considering the picture and sound quality blows away my VCR and DSS, I'll live with it. After all, who hasn't paused a movie to get up to take a whiz or grab another drink? One little unscheduled snag halfway through the film probably won't kill me. If I had paid $1k for it, that's another story. I also can't complain about the remote either. I open the drawer to put the movie in...I open it to take it out. I could live with a one button remote, so I can't gripe about that aspect. I haven't run into any dics it won't play yet...The Matrix, Fifth Element, Armageddon, Satrgate...all work the same. I happy with it. Look for "B" stock units on U-bid.com...good values.
