Strength:

Multi Region, DD/DTS

Weakness:

Very light weight.

Well, this is my first DVD player and I must say Pioneer is a winner. There is no lipsync problem and has auto region select. All in all, Pioneer's DVD-535 is an awesome machine worth every penny.

Strength:

Very simple to use and set up. Excellent picture and sound.
DD/DTS playback, Multizone playback, Region code I enhanced disc playback, CDR playback, No Macrovision ? Very quite disc playback. Manual is easy to follow.

Weakness:

Very light in weight - cheap construction ? Longevity of product might be an issue. No variable zoom feature, no MP3 playback.

I don't know how Pioneer have achieved this for the price - but this DVD player actually does what it is meant to do - give an excellent picture and sound and is very easy to use. The initial set up is done using the remote control and the on screen display. This was the easiest player I have used to set up. The remote is small and very lightweight but the buttons are intuitively laid out - the use of colour coding for some of the functions would have been useful. I have the DVD player hooked up to a Philips 68 cm Match Line TV using S-video and the digital output is connected to a Sony DB940 receiver via a Coax cable. The picture (colour was calibrated using a THX test program) and sound quality was astounding - no matter what discs I played - action/scifi/animation - or from what zone (1 and 4). The player responds very quickly once a disc is inserted into it. Pop in a CD or a CDR and again the sound quality is superb (especially on Live House setting on the Sony receiver). The DVD player has a dual laser pickup, so there is a dedicated laser for CD. Some DVDs give a slight pause on layer change but this is entirely normal. There are no audio sync problems with the player. If the construction holds up, ie the player doesn't start falling to bits in a year's time - I can thoroughly recommend this player to anyone - sure it is not build like a tank - but for the features and price it's unbeatable. Pioneer has a definite winner. In Australia we also received 5 free discs and 5 free movie rentals as well!

Strength:

Great picture, good dts/dd sound easy to use and if bought from the right place very cheap

Weakness:

None. I have sometimes heard the disc in the tray, so i just opened the tray and repositiond the disc..

This is a superb player for the price. Some places are selling it for £350. At that price you may find a better player but at £189 you simply cannot find better.........

Strength:

Easy to use, plays all discs, great sound

Weakness:

noisy loading tray, cheap remote

A very nice looking player with all the basic features, and also a few you don't need. Plays every disc without any fuzz.

Sounds great and has an ok picture too.

I have it hooked up to my Sony Strdb-840 and five Paradigm speakers. Watching movies and playing cds have improved greatly from my old cd-player and the Creative pc-dvd setup.

If you are looking for a good allround entry level player at a bargain price, the dv-535 is not a bad place to start.

Strength:

Very nice entry level player that plays anything.

Weakness:

It makes a little too much noise to my ears sometimes.

The DV-535 is a very nice player for those without a desire to mortage the house when it comes to buying a new DVD player. I use it with my Philips 32PW8505 32" Widescreen TV using S-VHS through Scart and the image quality is very nice and sharp! It plays almost everything without problems. I had some major problems with the R2 Notting Hill disc but that might have been a bad disc...
I've never had the chance to listen to the true audio capabilities of the player since I don't have a surround system yet unfortunately. My complaint about the player is that it makes some noise during playback which can be quite audioable with certain discs.
Mine is of course region and macrovision free which is very nice indeed.
The price I paid is including 25% Swedish sales tax.

All in all it's a very nice player I would recommend it to anybody! It gets one star less for the noise though.

Weakness:

Mine is not multizone!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with everybody who had summitted his review. I've got two friends who have the same DVD player. The problem is that MINE is not multizone,it is lock to zone 2. Anytime I put a DVD from a zone other than 2 it is rejected and a message appear: Wrong zone.
My DVD player (Pioneer DV535) is similar of those of my friends (which also have that logo of zone 2) but theirs play any DVD from any zone my friends put in them. I bought it for this characteristic by it is not working. Please, if anybody know the solution, I will be very grateful if he email me.

Strength:

Great Picture, Good Enough sound for the price. Best remote i've seen in a while! Great menu, very practical. Easy to make it region-free.

Weakness:

A bit of noisy, not handy when listening to cds. Too much plastic on the front. Terrible display! (even though i never use it!)

A perfect choise for the avarage budgeted consumer because:
- EXTREMELY low price for what it offers! (i paid 130.000 GRD)
- Perfect for watching movies
- Not need to worry about the front and noise, you'll only approach it to load a dvd, since the remote is so great you won't be able to let go!
- Reads CDR, CDRW, easy. I recommend it! (if you have a projector though, don't go for it! I'd buy the denon DVD-2800 since it has progressive scan on both PAL and NTSC signals)

Strength:

Plays evrything, Reputation, Remote.

Weakness:

None for my purposes.

I spent 3-4 months researching DVD players before I bought this baby. I almost bought it as soon as I saw it, but wanted to check everything else out first. I guess you could say I wasted 3 months, but now I KNOW I've got the best DVD player in its class.
Picture quality is nothing short of superb on my 68cm flat screen TV using S Video direct connection.
Sound reproduction is so much better than my "HiFI" stereo VCR when played through my Sony Pro Logic system. (Am now madly saving for a DD/DTS receiver and 6 new speakers.)
Menus and set-up are easy to negotiate and understand.
It was multizone out of the box which is great and it even plays those pesky R1 RCE DVDs.
Anyone who is looking to buy a DVD player in this price range, you can't go past this one. It will play everything except MP3 (DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW) so if you want to play MP3 disks, you'll have to look elsewhere, but if not, don't hesitate, you won't regret it.
I love it, and you will too!!!

Strength:

Nice remote, reads dvd vcd cd cdr cdrw dvdr, multizone, cheap.

Weakness:

to fat. needs to be skinnier like the sony's and toshiba's
Alot of useless space on the front.

Overall the Pioneer 535 is a great dvd player for an entry level machine. If you are looking at a DVD player for around this price, only look at this one and the Toshiba sd-1200
