Excellent DVD Player! Full suite of connections to support virtually any configuration. Easy to use On Screen Display although the remote control hides may of the function keys under a sliding panel - Somewhat cumbersome! But for $400 who's complaining??? |

I purchased the Pioneer DV-606D at PriceCostco for $379 (their supply of DVD players disappears fast!). The DVD player is hooked up to a Sony STR925 via optical cable. We thought this unit was a great buy until we ran into the dreaded "lip sync" problem. We were watching "Gone with the Wind" and noticed that the audio was not matching the video, sort of like those wonderfully dubbed Chinese Kung Fu movies, e.g. "you killed my father and I want revenge" lips keep moving... I called the Pioneer product support and they said they recognize that they have a problem, but they have no fix. The person I talked to said that "you have to live with it." I told them that I'll return the unit and buy a Sony. They said "go ahead." So you know what I'm doing (Costco said they would take the unit back). If it weren't for the lip sync problem, I would rate this unit 5 stars since it does everything I need and at a great price, but given this killer bug and no fix from Pioneer, I recommend that you avoid this unit. |

I bought this unit to replace the panisonic A310. The picture and sound quality have been excellent. The unit offers the latest standards and very flexible outputs (dual S-vhs and audio). I don't think that you can do better for the price, quality and features. The remote is very intuitive. |

I love this unit. Sure it is not a DV-09 but for the $3XX range this unit is great...DD DTS Component out...Video and Audio are great the value of this unit warrants 5 stars. |

Strength:
Component outputs, DD Decoder, easy to use remote
Weakness:
Menu access This is my first DVD player so I don't have anything to compare it with, however there is a neat feature on the player, it shows by way of illuminating 2,3,4 or 5 lights on the front panel and show how many channels are being decoded e,i 5 lights for DD 5.1, 2 lights for stereo, etc. |

Strength:
great price,AC-3 processor built in. Nice picture, decent audio.Makes buying a VCR stupid.
Weakness:
limited subwoofer management,no built in DTS processor, but so what,it was $3xx.xx. Toshiba 3109 a better buy...now. At the time the best buy I could get for the magic $3xx.xx price range. Almost bought the Panasonic 310,but heard about nagging tracking problems. I have had a nary of tracking problems here. Bass is alittle weak though. Would have liked better subwoofer management options. Menu selection very intuitive. Construction is about right. Weighs next to nothing. New technology no doubt. The remote could have been backlit too. All nit picking aside, the Pioneer 606d is still a great buy. I think the 414 would be a better buy now. The Toshiba 3109 makes a strong contender for the price too. If this was all you could buy for the $3xx.xx price,I would not say that you were doing bad at all,I still like mine very much. I set up this Pioneer DVD 606 player with my Technics receiver and Infinity speakers. I love this DVD player that it has built-in Dolby Digital decoder so I don't need an external decoder. Only one problem is in some movies after I play for 1 hour or so, it pauses for 0.1 second. It could be the dual-layer changing (I don't know). |
