Strength:

Great Product, Plays everything CD, CD-R, CD-r/W, VCD, DVD (obviously)... extremely easy to operate, quite sturdy.... excellent price for a 5-disc changer

Weakness:

Noe

None of the well-known brands, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba etc. will play anything apart from DVD and CD.

This is a multi format compatible DVD player. With 5 discs you can have music CD, DVD, CD/R everything loaded up in the system.

Strength:

Plays everything, price, best in class and above

Weakness:

none because other companies have the same problem with remotes and at least you don't have to use two hands to hit a shift button.

I am not an audiophile nor would I pay 100.00 for speaker wire and try to hear sounds that are not audible to the human ear.Picture AC/DC at full treble and no bass.Anyways if you compare this DVD Player to any other ones out there in the same basic price range it is far superior. The next best DVD Player is the Onkyo single disc and it is $800.00.The sony's are overpriced garbage"tray noise, won't play cdr's cdrw's and they have the same problem with remotes that every other company has.The JVC 565Bk"I had two and they fainted on me,remote sucked because of shift button, flimsy trays, wouldn't play cdr's or rw's and they had no pan scan.I guarantee you won't find a 5 disc or 3 disc DVD Player until you get up to the Onkyo 6 disc and it is $850.00.I would not even try to compare this DVD Player to the Onkyo because with the extra $400.00 that you pay pioneer could give you everything it had and then some.

The only thing that pioneer should offer more than the other companies is a 24/7 customer service line because if you work 8 or 9 to 5 you would have to go home during your lunch break and call them, fix the problem and get back to work in time and that is really stupid.People would take the 24/7 system into consideration when looking for audio or video equipment.

This system is really superior to other companies and it gets a very high recommendation from me and five stars to go with it.

P.S. If you are looking for an awesome speaker go to www.soundstage.com and read the awesome review that the Axiom M3Ti got from the professionals.I have a pair and they will blow away the bose 501's and they are only $300.00 bucks.

Strength:

price, play everything

Weakness:

limited feature

this is my first dvd player so no comparison.

i paid $285 pre-tax from bestbuy before $40 rebate, so it
costs me about $245 plus tax.

picture is excellent on my toshiba 27A50($249 from fry's)
with S-video connection(cause S-video cable($6.5) is much cheaper than components cables($40 maybe)).
two audio outputs are convenient, one to tv set & one to receiver.
it has something similar to dialogue enhancer in Panasonic.

my wish list for the next generation Pioneer DVD:
(it means C503 is lack of the following)
smooth variable ff/rw speeds
variable zoom
dimmer for lcd display
glow-in-the-dark universal remote
cd text mode
virtual surround
quieter spinning at dvd play
can resume the last play after u rotate the tray

Pioneer has an Elite carousel model, for 50% more expensive, u get many other features including progress scan.

I am very happy with C503, highly recommend it.

Strength:

Price, 5 cd changer, $40 rebate, plays CDR's

Weakness:

quality!

Another low quality product from Pioneer. I figured I would try out this one to save some money. VERY light again, low quality construction and it sounded LOUD and was very slow. For someone picky like me...this unit is bad. But for someone who just wants an inexpensive 5 disc, this will do the job. There was a loud grinding when switching disks, it was slow and the quality felt pretty low. Brought it back to BestBuy.

Strength:

5 disc changer
Amazing picture quality
Great sound quality

Weakness:

Feels cheaply built
Remote, as usual.

I got this player since my wife wanted a 5 disc cd changer so she can listen to music. I use a H/K 3270 stereo receiver and Dahlquist PDQ-26 tower speakers. I was not impressed when I took the player out of the box, since it was very light and felt almost like a toy. I replaced my DV-414 single disc player, which is up for sale by the way :) It's sound quality is quite good, and the picture quality is absolutely amazing! I've watched The Matrix, The 5th Element and Peter Frampton Live in Detroit. The picture is amazing. Forget everything else you think. For less than $200, I got a refrence quality player. If the rest of your system is good enuff, don't worry about the ordinary everyday DAC's, the sound is good enuff. The picture is amazing though, amazing! Highly recommended. And again, for the money, great performer. When critisizing this unit, remember the price point.

Strength:

Plays everything I've thrown at it (SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, etc.), fast loading.

Weakness:

Controller could be better, makes noise (all DVD players do, I have mine in a case along with VCR, you can't hear it).

I bought this after thinking about the DV-333, the 333 looked good, but I decided to get a 5-disc play It plays everything, and I have had no problems at all. I highly recommend this DVD player.

Strength:

Great picture, sound, connections

Weakness:

Remote, one scan speed

When I realized I couldn't use a progressive scan DVD with my TV (no progressive input), I decided to get a changer. I needed one that played CD-Rs, and had many connection options. It's face is clean and doesn't take a degree to understand. The performance has been great, on music and movies. I wish the remote was lighted. It is a little cumbersome using one speed scanning. However, I don't regret the purchase and have recommended this player many times.

Weakness:

The buttons on the remote are too close together, too small and similar.

The Pioneer DV-C503 is definitely the "best buy" in DVD changers under $700. It has every conceivable convenience feature, is comparable in quality to Sony changers but outclasses them in that the Pioneer can play all CD formats including CD-R and CD-RW, which the Sony cannot. Also, the 503 shares one programming feature which was previously unique to Sony CD changers; it gives you the option to use one of its 24 programming slots to program an entire disc if you so desire, leaving the other 23 to program any combination of tracks or discs. This system makes much more sense than having to needlessly use up slots to program every single track on a disc you want to hear in its entirety, thereby making more efficient use of the unit’s programming functions. Like most recent DVD players, the 503 is rather lightweight at 12 pounds but it looks and feels solidly built, shares many of the features of Pioneer's much more expensive 301-disc mega-changer and is easy to use. It's sound and picture quality is superior to Toshiba and Panasonic models, with a more film-like quality clearly visible on any TV, but the Pioneer sells for less. If you must have progressive scan, then get the new Model 603, which is the same machine with this extra feature. I only wish that Pioneer had given the 503 the same excellent ergonomic remote featured on the DV-C626 and other higher end models in its line. This would have been icing on an already well-decorated cake, but perhaps that would have added to the machine’s price.

Sk Sk Sk Sk Sk Skips alot on CDs

I really wanted to like this player. I shopped around alot and read all the sites and came to the conclusion that this was the DVD player for me. Now that I've had it for a while I can write a complete review.

the good: My DVD movies look and sound awesome.

the bad: many of my CDs skip. It brings tears to my eyes. I just don't get it! Why do none of the DVDs skip but the CDs do?!? At first I thought that this was just a sensitive player and some of my CDs had minor scratches on them that my Denon read over, but even brand new CDs have skipped on me. I wanted this to be my all-in-one player, but I had to drag my old Denon CD player back out of the closet. The Denon CD sounds better too. Ah well .. maybe I got a lemon.

Strength:

Features, price

Weakness:

no zoom

This player does is it all for an amazing price. I use it for DVD's and CD-R's almost exclusively and it plays anything. I burnt a cd once that wouldn't read on any drive (even the burner that wrote it) but the dv-c503 played it. I bought it almost a year ago, and the combination of price and features is still one of the best around. My JVC D-Series has 700 lines of res and the component output looks amazing on it. DTS sound with the optical ouput is incredible, never fails to read it.
The only weakness I see is the lack of a zoom that the toshiba models have. However, it has a number of picture settings to suit most preferences.
Some reviews have sited the lack of progressive scan which is true. However, unless you are using a flat-type tv with a high enough resolution to see it, you will never notice.
Very few dvd players compare to this one and when you consider the price, it is peerless!
