Strength:

clean picture, easy to use

Weakness:

none

picture looks clear, sounds great.
worth more than $179.
I had it for 6 months and never had any problem.
remote sensor works fast. Read all of my 141 tiles of DVD movies.

My wife and kids abuse this machine. They watch 2 to 3 movies in-a-row at least every other day and no heating problem. I guess I'm the lucky one.

Just like cars, same model, same color but one last for long time and others break down on day 1.

Strength:

None. Only average performance when it worked

Weakness:

Trouble reading discs that work fine in other players and then refused to read discs at all after 5 months.

This was a gift that I was very happy to get. I enjoyed watching movies on it until it stopped reading discs. Resetting it was no help and following all the troubleshooting tips in the manual also was fruitless. I called their customer service number and was helped by a polite support person to do everything I had already tried. Of course we got the same result I had gotten earlier, it still wouldn't read discs that were known to be good.
The replacement process was explained to me and I decided to bite the bullet and pay the outrageous charge of $90 for the 'service'. I'm expecting the replacement before the end of this week.
I wish I had read these reviews before shelling out the 90 bucks. I wouldn't have gone for the replacement. I'm not expecting much from it when it gets here.
I also read the reviews for the next higher model and found many people who had serious complaints about that model also (10 or 12 out of 58 reviews).
I wish there was a 0 star rating. There is no value or redeeming characteristic in a product that doesn't work.

Strength:

Nice Remote

Weakness:

It's almost dead.

About 5 months after I purchased this the picture started to randomly break up into these digital looking blocks or squares. I am sure there is a name for this activity I just don't know it. Anyway...I am now looking for a way to perhaps clean the lense...or get it fixed or something. Warranty is no longer valid. Anyone have this problem? I would recommend no one buy this player ever! Buy a sony...or another brand that actually works.

Strength:

Great picture . Optical outputs . Component outputs .

Weakness:

I have had this player for about 7 months and have had no trouble whatsoever . I have played 50 or so different discs in this player and it has NEVER failed to play any of em . It has no extra features such as zoom , but it does everything it is supposed and it does it well ! I use optical out for the audio , and it sounds amazing with a dolby digital or dts dvd .

Strength:

Intially had nice picture and sound, opt out and component out.

Weakness:

Noisy, clumsey actuator on tray (slams open and shut) remote slow to respond

As stated in the previous post, the unit worked great for the first 4-5 months, then bam it won't reckognize dvd's. I get the invalid disk error, both on older DVD's I've played several times and on a brand new disk just out the wrapper. I'm very disappointed, now I'm searching for a new machine and it seems like everything out there in the less than $200 range has some sort of problem.

This RCA unit is out of commission, I am going to try the warranty route, but the warranty only covers 90 days on parts. It covers 1 yr on labor. I've read horror stories on sony's CS so wish me luck with RCA.

I can't say I'd recommend this unit, it was nice while it lasted but that's not saying much.

Strength:

Price

Weakness:

runs hot, loud drive, very fussy reading discs

I've had this player for about 4 months, and finally got rid of it. First came the occasional hang ups, then more and more total lockups. Finally, it refused to read several DVD's I bought new. It would just spin and spin and spin. Then, either it would power down completely, or I'd get an error message on the screen saying my disc was not valid.

For the first 3 months or so things were fine. Picture and sound were excellent. Remote was ergonomically friendly. Only complaint was commands though the remote took a long time for the player to respond to. Changing tracks on a CD would take around 5 seconds from when I pressed the button.

So I decided to call RCA's repair service. Since RCA's warranty begins to phase out after only 3 months (from 3 months to a year, they only pay for labor), I was looking at paying around $100 to fix it, so I got rid of it. Replaced it with a Denon- DVD1000. Much happier. Review to follow.

rca DVD players really suck

Strength:

Plays DVD's fine so far (knock on wood).

Weakness:

VCD/CD-ROM support sucks ass.

Works fine for DVD's so far (4 months), however doesn't play niether Audio CDs/VCD's as claimed on the box and the RCA website. The later model however does and that came out a month ago.

Called customer support and they are giving me the run around. I am so pissed I am going to have them replace the unit at no cost to me (since I get 1 year on parts and labour from canada).

I am a big time RCA supporter but I am truly dissapointed.
I may never buy another RCA product.
