very sensitive with scratches and it's sometimes impossible to read brand new dvd's but i think that its better now

I had trouble before with it but now that I got it back from service it runs well, its a common error with this machine that the picture freezes but i think that there is a kit that can fix it....at least it did so on my machine...so check with your service shop

Only 12month warranty.... hope nothing else goes wrong.

The player was running pretty well for around 6 ,months or so. Then it would get to exactly 60min on the timer and freeze! There was a previous post about geting it serviced and replace the boards, I did this and it has been working brilliantly for over 6 months now, not a single skip. I think the US Samsung assembly line is screwed up, or you guys don't have the properly trained people to diagnose the problem. All up I pretty pleased with the 611.

First and last, it is not loading the disks

Beacuse of the tight budget, i broght this DVD player from BJ/s.At first it worked fine..but after some time, it started to freeze on all the DVD''s..thought the Disks are bad..Now the player has stopped loading the disks.I cleaned the lens and lubricated the loading mechanism..it plays fine for some time and then the problem comes back again.

not reliable, used to skip but nor very often. Now it won''t read any discs, what a shock.

Bought this player October 2000, it didn''t have too many problems, I was happy with it until yesterday(3/19/02) the machine went out on me. It will not read any disc, I took off the case/cover, cleaned the lens and tried again. Still the same problem, then gone to best buy and bought a lens cleanning kit, what a waste. Called the local service center, they want $40 just for inspection, what a rip off.

Slow on loading and jumping to menu picks

I bought this DVD when I got my Home Theatre system. For the first 7 months it worked great with very little skipping. Finally it started to pixilate the picture and finally just gave me no disk errors. Sent it in for repair under warranty (cost listed at $400) to replace the pickup and drive unit. Worked OK with occassional skipping till 2 weeks ago when I got the same problem as before. Sent it in for repair and contacted Samsung. Initially Samsung said they would give me a credit on an upgrade, but next day told me they would replace the unit with the newer MD201. I will buy Samsung again as long as they are willing to fix the problems. Just hope the MD201 works OK.

We were given the 611 to replace a 511 that kept freezing. Since then we have had no problems at all and a relative with a Sony DVD (@twice the price) wishes he''d bought the same.

Doesn''t play CD-R''s and door thinks it''s better than me

Well, I havn''t had the skipping problem yet. I think it''s a great DVD player for the price at the time. Sure you can get better now for the price, but oh well. The only problem I''ve had with it is when I eject the disk the door wont stay open so I have to be ready to drop the disk really quick before it opens then shuts again. That''s it.

For the value, I find that this dvd player is worth it. I haven''t really had the skipping problem everybody else does. If the dvd ever skips i just clean it. The digital out and component video work very well. I hooked it up to my sony dobly digital reciever and it sounded excellent.

5.1 ch output

freeze on almost all the dvds.

This player delivers a good picture quality and Sound quality with it''s 5.1 ch output. The worst part is, it freezs almost on all the dvds. I played varieties of dvd including the Asian dvds. I should say as of today I could not see even a sigle movie without freez. I tried DVD cleaner too but in vein. The same dvds are working pretty good with other dvd players like Sony, Panasonic, APEX and SMC. I would strongly suggest to keep away from this player. it''s not worth buying.
