SAMSUNG DVD PLAYERS SKIP MORE FREQUENTLY THAN RICHARD SIMMONS AT A HOPSCOTCH CONVENTION !!!!!

SAMSUNG DVD's suck ! Please....I beg you-don't gamble with this DVD Player. The 500 bad reviews behind me will back me up on this.

This is my 3rd one! I thought I was just THAT unlucky until I realized this is a GLOBAL problem. Don't even THINK about a Samsung DVD Player....the skipping problem is 100% for real. Just ask each one of the 3 DVD players I had to return in 8 weeks!!!

Quality control, picture

I bought the similar 511 model and had to return it right away. The picture brightness would oscillate between very bright and very dark and would not stop. I tried all of the picture settings to no avail.

Strength:

This is for the samsung dvd 511 which is not much different than the 611. Optical out Why don't all dvd players have this? S-vhs out.

Weakness:

I find that it does skip sometime but if you make sure there is no dust on the disk it works just fine.

I think that it's a great product but you need to take care of your DVD movies so it does not skip. I only had one major problem but I think it's the disk? I got X-men for x-mas and it does not load the disk but if turn off the player with the disk still in side, when I turn it back on the disk loads. No idea why but I have not had any problems like that with any other disks. And one last thing Why does everone think the Toshiba 1600 is so great it does not have Optical out So it's useless to a lot people buying new recievers because the coxial out is old and no longer needed. If it came with the Optical I would take my samsung back, but it does not so it's not as great as everyone thinks.

Strength:

I bought mine on sale for $169. Good features for the price. All appropriate outputs.

Weakness:

Small buttons on the remote. Also, remote not illuminated. Occasional skipping problem. Only a single tray unit.

I bought this item pre-Christmas to entice DVD presents from my family. The first unit that I bought was defective when I got it home. The disk tray would not open. The second unit has worked fine. I have noticed the same skips that others say they have occasionally seen but I don't know if the fault is in the unit or was inherent it the particular disks. This is my first exposure to DVD.

Nothing I can see so far, except the bad rap it's getting??

I'm not sure why this player is getting such a bad rap, expecially here. My player plays great, hasn't skipped AT ALL, and the remote is fantastic. I got it at Best Buy, like everyone else, as an open box special. Everything works great, plays my movies, with ease. Movies I have tried with NO skipping, X-men, Both Austin Powers, DMB Live, Pearl Jam, Happy Gilmore, and The Beach. 3 of those are rentals, and I haven't had any problems. Maybe I haven't given it enough time, but so far, I am very very happy. FOr the price, YOU CAN"T GO WRONG!!!!!

Strength:

Plays MP3s, vcds, and has a region hack to play imports.

Weakness:

Skips insanely, sometimes won't load dvds at all, some mp3 cdrs won't read.

Bought this DVD because of its cost, and paid for it. I've had this player for just over a month, and since I first purchased it I've experienced bad skipping (at least every 10 mins or so) on all my dvds, but it appears to be worse on dual layer discs, which often won't read at all. The good thing about this player is it's region hack (search around for it) which works great. But it's not much use when you can't view a disc properly. I am about to buy a different player and will thoroughly research beforehand this time.

Strength:

Lots of features, Optical, Coax and Component Outputs. Great Price

Weakness:

A) Skips
B) Freezes
C) Skips and Freezes
D) All the Above

My Samsung DVD611 is 6 months old seemed to be getting worse as time went on with the picture skipping and freezing. I finally had it repaired at the nearest service center (which was only 75 miles away for which I was responsible for shipping costs) and now that I have it back...guess what? it's just as bad as before and even worse now!!! The best part is that Samsung paid $292.20 for replacement parts and labor to repair a $169.95 machine!!! I called the repair center and told them of the same occuring problem, they told me to send it back to them again for repairs. Needless to say, I have to ship it to them at my expense. Before I do that, I decided to write Samsung a letter and tell them of my (their) problem. They informed me that someone will be contacting me soon. Lets hope so! I believe I will go back to Best Buy and return it for another brand name machine in lieu of dealing with Samsung and their inherent problems. The salesperson at Best Buy did however recommend the Samsung to me, maybe I do have some recourse.
Research all other DVD Players before buying a Samsung. I wish I would have visited this site before buying the Samsumg. These review forums are the best source of information that I have found.

Does most thing ok... except the skipping

Weakness:

Skip-Skip-Skip-Skip-Skip-Skip

Im sending this one back. Hopefully a firmware uppgrade can fix the skips. Read the reviews above for descriptions of the skipping problems.

Even if the rest of the player works ok, the skips are not acceptable. I've said "skips" a lot. I'ts a word that sums up this player
