Freezes, jumps, skips, even on the audio

Absolutely hopeless player. Tried 2 and both had major lockups during play- on Blade, Dogma, The Siege. Skips on Matrix.

Am returning it and going for a different brand.

Other reviews question why people badmouth Samsung, as they have Samsung screens that work perfectly: they make excellent computer screens and trash DVD players. Ford make good motorcars, but I wouldn't necessarily trust them if they produced a Ford washing machine.

THis DVD gets a bit of a bad rap sometimes due to skipping. BUT if you take it into your service agent and put the wind up them for the latest firmware/motherboard upgrade, it'll come back a great machine for the money spent with NO skipping, except for the occasional pause on layer changes

Yes this is a cheap player, yes I did have problems reading some disks (usually in the middle of the movie). But I called samsung, took it to their service center under warrenty, kept it for a few days and now the player works a treat!!
The only downer on this model is the long pause that happerns between menu items. BTW, After the service (in which they replaced an optical pickup) I have had no trouble reading MP3's, burnt CD's, Video CD's.

My advice, call samsung(while it's under warrenty)and get it serviced

Skips, etc. Has been in for repair three times in last month without being fixed.

This DVD player had the freeze/jump problem at the best of times. Tried to return to Best Buy early in game but was told this is normal behavior. It finally started trying to spin up the disc and eventually displaying the "no disc" message although the disk was in the machine.

The player went back for repair on Aug. 30. Got it back on 9/14. Same problem. Took it back to Best Buy. Got it back this morning (9/27). Same problem. Called Best Buy . If you don't buy the extended warranty they refuse to replace the unit..."it's between you and Samsung". Back to the repair shop it goes.

This is the worst product experience I have ever had in my life. Replacing it with a Sony.

zoom feature

dvds mess up in player, especially universal, fox, and paramount dvds.

my samsung dvd player screwed upn a lot. I got it for Christmas last year. Almost every dvd i got would mess up in it. They would skip, freeze up in the middle, and sometimes freeze for a second while the movie is playing. I got a Magnavox dvd player now, It works fine for a cheaper dvd player and my dvds play fine on it. If you want a good cheap dvd player that plays dvds good, get a Magnavox dvd player, not the Samsung piece of junk!

Skipping, Freezing, No Disc Load

What a piece of junk! DO NOT buy one of these DVD players. You would be better off burning your money. Unfortunately, I received this DVD player as a birthday present. It has never worked properly, discs freeze every 10-15 minutes, and most newer discs will not even load. But, I just left a message for Ron @ Samsung 973-601-6000, we will see if I hear back from him. Please do not waste your money on any Samsung DVD players!

Clear concise menus, optical, coax, S-video, and component video outputs

This is my first DVD player and have been extremely happy with it. This player is easy to use with very simple and easy to use, straightfoward menus. Advancing several chapter is slow as it has to access a chapter before you can skip to the next one. I have an occasional skip but they are few and far between, even when I had my old left main speaker resting right on top of it. I've never had skipping problems using rented DVD's either. Any skip is merely a short pause and nothing more though can be a little disconcerting when I have my amp cranked. The variety of outputs for a player of this price is very nice indeed. I can't comment on sound or video quality as I haven't compared it directly with other players. I recommend this player with caution due to problems in skipping, though it sounds like some others are exaggerating at least a little. A Toshiba, Sony, or Pioneer would probably be a better, more consistent choice.

i dont undertsnad this.There must be a crap factory in the US because mine is running perfect.i converted it to multi region through my control and still havent skipped on a disk like others,i play my mp3's and vcd's and nothing.This is my first DVD and ive worked my ass of at work (im just 15)to buy this and i like it.Even rentals run ok.All you big mouth americans stop bad mouthing samsung im happy with this 100% no problems yet no skipping or freezing at all and please give it thought that these people are like all of us,they have families too so stop criticising samsung.

This is my 3rd one! I thought I was just THAT unlucky until I realized this is a GLOBAL problem. Don't even THINK about a Samsung DVD Player....the skipping one of the 3 DVD players I had to return in 8 weeks!!!

i updated my last review. correstion: i actually used my samsung for less than 1 year, not 1 month. my samsung dvd player would freeze up in the middle of most movies. most affected were Fox, Universal, Metro-Goldwyn_mayer, and Paramount dvds. the movies would also freeze for a few seconds and skip on a few occasions. i got a magnavox dvd611 now. it has a few problems with skipping, but these improve the next time i put my dvd in there. it works a lot better that the samsung. please do not buy samsung dvd players: it's not worth it. Should have called it the "Freezesung".
