Strength:

My fiance bought it for me as a gift and I don't want to hurt her feelings

Weakness:

It's a piece of crap as all who have had one know

This thing really blows. Skips all the time. I am going to buy the Samsung DVD-M101 at Best Buy and hope that #1 it works! and #2 my fiance doesn't realize that I swapped the players as to not hurt her feelings (this is still the best thing she has ever bought me... get tired of ties)

If not for my situation as mentioned above, I would throw this damn thing away and buy another brand. I'm kind of stuck with the Samsung brand name as I don't see how I can get away with buying what I'd really like to own.

Sum up... BEWARE and buy your own damn electronics, chicks can NOT buy electronics even though I appreciated the attempt. Now you'll have to excuse me as I'm going to go piss on this unit...

Hey Jonathan, if you ever revisit this site...post how to hook up the heatsink fan! My machine is worthless as is and I am convinced that you have found a logical solution. Only problem is that the fan you prescribe needs power!

Strength:

Well it looks good and the box claims it'll do a whole lot...

Weakness:

Like everyone else's here, mine skips with just about every DVD I put in the thing. Don't be fooled, it looks good on paper and on the shelf but that's about it. I will never ever buy another Samsung piece of crap again.

This thing is a joke. After reading everyone elses reviews, I'm convinced that trying to get this thing warrantied will be futile. I will never buy another Samsung product after this. A COMPLETE RIPOFF. I'm pretty upset over this thing, as it was a gift to my parents. Thanks a lot Samsung. It's a shame you can't give zeros...

My reliable and trusty PS2. For only $100 more than this thing it also doubles as a game console.

SKIPS LIKE CRAZY!

As someone below indicated, there certainly appears to be a major difference between the European version of this player and those made for the USA. I made an impuse purchase of this machine as it was a complete open box display unit from Best Buy. It had never been used before, so I thought "what the heck." Well, the "heck" is that I have exactly the same problems that most complain about. Skips and freezes up without fail a number of times during each and every movie. Typically, I try to watch a movie on it and find myself having to go to the computer to play the scenes that it skipped.

I will most likely try the fix that the previous reviewer posted but, if you are lucky enough not to have already bought this machine, AVOID SAMSUNG!! Even for $99, I have been ripped off! I echo all other unhappy customers by saying that I will never buy anything from this company again.

Strength:

Plays everything without skipping, handy RC, sound and video quality is v. good

Weakness:

Not founded yet

I think guys, that those DVD's you've got at "best buy" are just spoilage or missunderstanding. It seems that SAMSUNG delivers for USA some kind of DVD's that are damaged or smthg, coz mine is perfect one. It is multiregionable, plays DVD,CD,CD-R,MP3 and CD-RW (not recommended by manual). I've not tried VCD and SVCD yet. My opinion is positive.

Strength:

Many option (on remote control), plays MP3

Weakness:

None

This is my second review.
I've been using the player a lot over the past weeks. All the DVD's play without skipping or freezing once, picture and sound quality are great and the many functions on the remote make it fun to play with.
I've tried some CD's with MP3 files (150 songs on one CD!) and the player, connected to my stereo, plays them without a problem; I use the remote to switch between songs. Haven't found out yet if there is a way to shuffle the songs (anyone got a clue?)
Found the instruction on the internet for programming the player to play DVD's of all regions. It took a few times to get it right but in the end the procedure went well. Now I should buy a region 1 DVD to test if it really works.
Too bad that the US players are causing so many headaches, but I can truly recommend the player to European customers.

Strength:

None. Notta. Zip.

Weakness:

Skips so much, movies are unwatchable.

Ditto the guy below. Samsung should not have been given a DVD license. They cannot make a player that doesn't skip. Went back to Best Buy with a disk that wouldn't play at all in a Samsung but worked fine in an Apex. The salesman scoffed and put the DVD in a brand new Samsung model. Whiring noises and a blank screen were all that were seen. He slipped it in a budget Sony model next to it and a movie actually started playing. Imagine that! A player that actually can play a movie. No more Samsungs for me thanks. Take my advice and buy a Sony or Toshiba. Heck, even buy an Apex! Just not a Samsung.

None that skipped like this piece. My nephew has a $100 apex that plays everything.

Weakness:

Skips and freezes on DVD's

This unit skips and freezes on virtually every DVD I have played in it. It usually waits until I'm 1/2 or 2/3 of the way through a movie - just when I've gotten good and involved in it - and then it begins to skip and freeze until it's impossible to finish the movie. The same DVD's play fine in other players. I haven't noticed the overheating problems reported in other reviews, though. I will contact Best Buy and Samsung and try to get some satisfaction, but judging by some of the other reviews, I'm not optimistic.

Strength:

None (DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG)

Weakness:

Won't Play MP3, skips, poor Samsung support (DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG)

Same story as everyone else who purchased this piece of junk. Got it for Christmas, luckily took it back in time and replaced it with an Aiwa (that does play MP3s) from Circuit City.

The Samsung would NOT play MP3s and Samsung support simply said "too bad, we know it doesn't work." Why would you sell it as a DVD player that can play MP3s then? Also had a problem with skipping from the first day.

PLEASE AVOID SAMSUNG AT ALL COST FOR YOUR SANITY!!!

Strength:

MP3 and CD-R support

Weakness:

It's a terrible machine. In fact, it is by far the worst one I have ever used.

It's hard to give this thing more than one star for anything. While it is cheap, it's essentially useless for every single feature, because it skips on everything.

DVD - skips (works fine in several other players)
CD - skips (works fine in several other players)
MP3 - skips (works fine in computer CD-ROM and Apex DVD player)
VCD - worked fine for 5 minute test.

This is one player that should have NEVER made it into production, because quite simply, it is garbage. Traded it in for a non-MP3 machine.
