Freeze frame, skips tracks

I took this unti to an authorized Samsung service center in Reno, NV. After bei9ng there two months, I was informed that they knewe how to fix the unit and had sent to Samsung for the parts. They said Samsung would not send parts, even for warranty service, unless they were prepaid. The service outfit would not pay for warranty parts. Therefore a stalemate. I am still putting up with inferior performance and trying to see if I can get credit from the outfit I bought it from to get a different unit.

Strength:

It looked nice sitting on my shelf.

Weakness:

It doesn't work, period.

DO NOT BUY THIS samsung DVD PLAYER!!!! DON'T EVEN ACCEPT ONE FOR FREE! I ordered a Consumer Reports best buy DVD-611 from Electronics Emall. The Emall switched the shipment to a DVD-711. This DVD player skipped on the first DVD played on it. I thought it was a bad DVD and returned it and got a new one. It still skipped. I contacted Samsung via email and they said it was my fault. They claimed that I did something to warp the laser. They said the laser gets too hot. Say what? Should I have used this piece of crap in a walk in freezer?
I took it to an authorized Samsung service shop. They told me Samsung doesn't want to admit that it's a known problem with a bad chip. After waiting over a month, I was told it was fixed and I could use it. The first DVD I played, the screen froze. I called the service place and they told me it's probably a bad DVD. I borrowed and rented DVDs and everyone froze. I took the DVD player back to the service center again. I received the DVD player the first week of June and since then (it's now September 19th), I've had it in my home for a total of about 2 weeks. DO NOT BUY THIS DVD PLAYER!

Strength:

16:9 ratio for my HDTV. Great pictures at this format when it plays.

Weakness:

Skips and Comes to a total stop on DVDs around track 17.

When I saw this @ the store, I was surprised by the price for the features it provided. I had heard that the Nuon was a good DVD player. So I bought it thinking it must be a similar quality. Boy was I wrong! It all went downhill from there. After setting up the player, I tried a rented DVD and it skiped and froze completely. I then played some NEW DVDs that I had bought for my business trips. On my HDTV, the 16:9 setting was great. However, it froze on track 17, about 60 min into the movie. Next evening, I tried another new DVD and it played fine until track 17. It froze again and said it was not able to play this DVD. I played the DVD on my computer to finish the movie. Since then, I am now looking for a new DVD player, and using the Samsung DVD-711 as a target practice when I go shooting. Since the store will not take it back b/c I have lost the receipt and they want more money to fix it.

Strength:

looks allright

Weakness:

skips

I wish I would have came to this sight first before it was too late. I bought this player because it was suppose to play mp3's. Ya it plays them as long as you don't want to hear the whole song. It skips on every song no matter what the quality is.The movies aren't too bad. If the player wasn't suppose to decode mp3's, they wouldn't play at all.
Since they play but skip there is something wrong somewhere.
I emailed them a acouple of times but it's more or less my problem.
I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SAMSUNG PRODUCT AGAIN!!!
AND I'LL DISCOURAGE ANYONE I CAN FROM BUYING ANYTHING SAMSUNG.
If I could afford to drop it from a 5 story building, I would send the pieces back to them and buy a good dvd player
MAY SAMSUNG ROT IN HELL!!!!!!

ALL. This DVD player stunk from the time I opened the box. It never played a DVD all the way without skipping or stopping in the middle of a movie. I had it serviced and that didn't fix it. They finally replaced it with a DVD 812. This unit isn't any better. Same problems. I have finally convinced them to give me a refund after 3 DVD players from them, 10 months of use, and a grand total of 10 DVD's watched...and none of them without the player stopping during the movie multiple times. DO NOT BUY A SAMSUNG product. You will be sorry if you do.

Samsung makes the absolute worst products ever used. I'm an audio engineer so you can respect my opinion. They're customer service is horrible as well. Gracie, Mercedes, and Bob have been eager to let my original warranty run out so that they don't have to resolve my problem with the player I purchased 10 months ago.

Strength:

It's "many features"

Weakness:

Everything and anything

At the time of purchase I was looking for a DVD player that was equipped to handle MP3 format. I was looking into and Apex player but had the unfortunate luck to spot this one at BestBuy (it's not their fault). I was impressed with the relatively low price/feature ratio. However, I was highly dissapointed once I started using the player. Have you ever tried to impress a young lady with a movie that skipped an average of 6 times/minute. Frustrating is not exactly the word I would choose. On top of that, the supposed MP3 reading capability ... sucks (for lack of a better term).
The slightest flaw in a DVD will result in a skip-happy viewing. It's almost like all my movies have been remixed to play at a club. To make a long story short, do yourself a favor and stay away from this machine, and if you already own one... burn it, or bury it...in your neighbors yard, or give it to your in-laws as a christmas gift from HELL!

By the way.. if they had a rating in the negatives... you get the idea.
