Weakness:

skipping!!shuts off!

I couldn't agree more w/ what most people have said about this player! This was the first DVD player that I bought. I purchased this player, thinking I was getting a good deal on a pretty nice player. It looked good, and had a decent name. This player was a horrible experience. I returned the first one I bought, and exchanged it for another new one. I even exchanged two different movies that I bought new! It was a huge hassle to hook, and unhook up this player only to have it SKIP w/ EVERY movie!! I think I watched 5 or 6 new movies and a couple rented movies, and they all skipped. I thought that it might be over-heating? It seems like some other people feel the same way. One movie that I bought was Nutty Professor 2. I loved the movie, but hated the darn skipping! It even shut completely off! I haven't purchased a replacement player yet, but am looking. If any of you have a good one, shoot me a line.

The Sound!! It rules!! It sounds just like when I am at a fair and I goto the s h i t e r and then I hear people PLOP their p o o p. So it's like if you are in the bathroom nonstop with the sound of plop 24/7.....

Weakness:

Doesn't Make loud enough plop sound.

Think about it though.... You goto a fair and you s h i t then you here other people plop their p o o p. So congrats to samsung for a sound that will make you plop too. Thanx for the bathroom that never stops ploping. GOTO F U C K I N G H E L L samsung!!!

I must say that I never had no problems with DVD skipping. That seems to be an exception. Maybe there are some differences between the European and the USA versions of the machine. The sound quality is pretty good, but my 711 couldn't read some audio CD edited by philips.

Weakness:

Well besides the fact that i DOES NOT play any thing. none
can you even call this a disc player?? NO you can call it a peice of crap!

I got it home and watched the 6th day and Gone in 60 sec. 6th day worked fine and gone in 60 sec. skiped once. the next day i watched a few more movies and it just got worse. i tried to watch the Friends dvd and the 4th one wouldn't go at all. i set my pioneer reciver ontop of it. Bad idea. my reciver got so hot from the dvd heat it actually SHUT OFF. my reciver has never shut off due to heat. so i tried setting the dvd away from my other "working" equiptment. didn't help. so i finnaly called samsung. they said No one has ever called them telling them that its had problems. WHAT A LIE. then they told me to take it back. ya right. like thats going to do me any good. i think you could get more from a klh product. at least they WORK. what a big waste of money. and the mp3 decoder thats a bunch of crap. it doesn't work unless you beat THE HECK out of it. and that still doesn't help. i would hope that they could fix it because i do like the features and the look. but those don't really matter unless it "plays" dvds

Does not play US encoded MP-3'a

I just got one of the 2 left @ Best Buy...after hooking it up and wiring it into my system, I inserted a CD-R MP3. It did not recognize it... so I tried another , and another.

Out of frustration I tried reading the manual which made no mention of the MP3 capabilities, so I called Samsung.

According to Samsung, the Asian market encodes their MP3's in a different format for which the DVD-711 was designed to play.

I am going to try the device, but if its not any better than my old DVD-611, its going back.

Strength:

appearance and zoom feature...that's all

Weakness:

i've experienced more random pauses during dvd playback than i can tolerate. there seems to be 1 or 2 freezes on almost every dvd i've played so far on this player. this was a nuisance for me, and can certainly kill the mood when you're watching a good movie.

from my experience with my 1-year old pioneer dvd player, i've learned to trust pioneer. when compared to that of samsung's dv711, the picture and sound quality of my pioneer is better. when i went to Best Buy, i was pretty much set on purchasing the pioneer dv333..then i noticed
that the price and the features on the samsung dvd711 were pretty much the same. the only reason i bought the samsung was for the looks. samsung's construction obviously looked better than the very plain pioneer. "never judge a book by its cover"...i'm going to return the samsung and buy the dv333.

Strength:

Great Remote. Many features. Ease of Use. Excellent Audio/Video quality.

Weakness:

Overheating. Apparently manufacturing problems.

I have had this product for 7 months, and could not be happier. This player has excellent sound, puicture, and has read every disc I have put into it. I have not tried Mp3 discs, simply because I use my dreamcast for that. I have experienced some skipping, but that was only because they were rental discs, and they had some filth on them. Once it was cleaned off, the DVD Player was fine. As with many of the others here, this player does heat up, but it has never caused a problem for me. I would like to recommend this product, but looking at all the other reviews, it seems as though you may be taking a chance with this product...I guess some are good, but many have problems.

Strength:

plays all types of formats including cd-r and mp3

Weakness:

would play parts of DVDs and then stop working.

I got a great deal on this dvd. Or so I thought. At first it looked and sounded great but half way through a movie it stopped working. I found out that it wasn't the dvd because it worked in a friends machine. So I rented 2 more movies and one played all the way through but the other one didn't. If you want all the playability of this machine I would suggest buying the Aiwa s370 because it does not have this problem.

Absolutely None

Weakness:

Skipping, freezing, over heating, stopping in the middle of a scene.

I wish I had found this site before I wasted my money. What a piece. This machine has not and can not play an entire DVD without skipping multiple times. My wife and I bought it after Thanksgiving and since it was our first DVD player we thought that the skipping was normal. It wasn't until she was watching a dual-layer movie when then the thing overheated and wouldn't read the disk, tipping us off to a bigger problem.

All the DVD's we purchased were brand new, and they all skip. Even the single layer ones. I'm going to try contact samsung and get a replacement, but from the other reviews, it looks pointless. I'm just out the cash.

Too all those thinking of purchasing this model. One word. DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!
