Bought one for Christmas along with a STR-DE925 receiver. Unlike the receiver, I am quite happy with the DVD player/changer. I mix and match DVDs and CDs with no problem. It's quieter and faster than my Sony 5-disc CD changer, and the picture quality from DVDs is superb. Only 1 quibble: it does not produce the blacker-than-black level on the PLUGE pattern from the video essentials DVD.Bummer -- I have to keep my laser-disc player around to do a proper calibration of my TV. I'll deduct only 1 star for that, since almost DVD players have the same flaw.

My priority is music (I've got a Naim+Royd system), but I like home theatre too. I was running out of space in my cabinet, and I appreciated this unit's 5-CD/DVD changing capabilities. I use the player for music only when I want to shuffle CDs for a party. Otherwise I use my Naim CD player.
It sounds "acceptable" for CD playback, although it certainly doesn't compare to many better players out there. DVD quality is quite good. Discs are changed quickly and quietyly. If you're short of space and want a single unit that does it all without disappointing, take a look at this unit.

I bought the Sony C600D about a month ago, and I am very satisfied with all the features. I am quite impressed by the superb audio and video quality that it produces as well as the many neat features it has. I especially like the idea of being able to load it up with 5 dvds and going to favorite chapters on each one using the remote control.
This one gets a 5!

I bought this unit last month at J&R for $450 - yes it is a closeout and yes it is a steal. At $650 (pre-closeout) it didnt make as much sense to me as buying separate cd and dvd changers but how can you beat leading edge technology at this price. The DVD performance appears excellent and the cd sound is also quite good - as far as sound is concerned the soundtracks on DVDs' are stunning. I really do neded to start buying some new cds'. I am about to buy a Pioneer Elite vsx-26tx as my receiver. I had intended to purchase an SE unit but Pioneer Elite is far and away a better unit. With MOSFET's, and multi-source capability I cant go wrong vs the 555 or the to be released 777.
I am very pleased with the performance of the 600. I have yet to find a DTS movie and anyway DTS IS DEAD!!! for home theatre.
I would suggest that this is the best deal out there right now if you can get the right price.

Strength:

It holds 5 disks. Awesome picture!

Weakness:

Remote is clumsy.

Wanted to save some cabinet room by replacing my CD changer. My only real caveat is the 24/96 D/A converter. I don't think it is bad, but I prefer the sound of the 20 bit D/A in my Yamaha CD player. I ended up getting a Denon AVR-3600 and using the excellent D/As in it for CD playback. The Sony's lacked depth IMHO.

I do not like the remote at all. The joystick style cursor is used for both click and directional movement. The jog dial stinks too.

Other than that, the video is great. It has as many connections as anyone is likely to need. It is nice and quiet when shuffling. I have it paired with a Toshiba's top 36" CRT TV. This setup gives very nice depth to the picture. I can't imagine getting a more detailed and accurate picture.
