Strength:

Good sound & video. Plays CD-RW and easy to use.

Weakness:

Can't program CD tracks direclty from unit, have to go
through remote control and TV.

Just got it last week, and I am very pleased with it. Happy
that the first CD-RW I tried worked (Infodisc CD-RW burned
with adaptec easy cd creator). Will try under another CD-RW brand, since I can only get the infodisc from one store
on Yahoo Shopping.

I have connected the DVD through my super VHS JVC VCR since
my Toshiba TV only has one super VHS video input. Seems
to work properly.

Strength:

I like the disk exchange feature that allows you to change 4 disks while the fifth one is still playing.

Weakness:

While watching some DVD movies, you cannot turn off the closed captioning. This is very annoying.

Overall, this is a good DVD player. I have it matched with a Denon AVR-1801 Receiver and Boston Acoustics surround speaker system. The music and movies sound great! I would like better control over the subtitles/captioning than exists with some DVD's today.

Strength:

Great picture, great sound, lots of features, shuffle for cds, component output, good remote, high grin factor

Weakness:

Makes my cable look like sh*t now

I had intended to buy the Panasonic, went to Sears of all places after my local dealer rubbed me the wrong way, and decided that all of the stuff he was selling, so was Sears. I bought all at once a Yamaha htr-5250 (later returned it for an Onkyo 575x--much happier now)a JVC 3800 s-VHS player, a Pansonic 27" and a Panasonic camcorder (to keep the wife happy). Sears was out of the Pana dvd, but had the 660 in the back, not on display yet. They knocked 10% off everything without having to haggle. My local hifi dealer was willing to knock off $7 off the TV. He can knock this off...

Anyway, the Sony c660 is a great machine. It definitely pays to read the manual. This was my first dvd player. Unlike a regular cd player, dvd players require a little more setup as I discovered. But once it is setup to play dvd and dts, it is really cool. I use the component connection, and the color and separation from my Panasonic TV is very good. Cable now looks vastly ineferior, though it really depends on the station and broadast.

The sound is equally thrilling. I use the coaxial connection to my Onkyo 575x, and it is very clean; dialogue is crisp, focused, and sound effects are everywhere. My speakers are humble, but decent, JBL HLS-610 front and rear, and a S center speaker, and I just bought the new JBL PB-10 sub, which make a huge difference.

I haven't used many of the other options on this dvd player yet. I like the cd as well. Unless I had a much better all around system; separates amps, and vastly superior speaker, I don't think a dedicated cd player would give me any improvement in sound. I like that I still have the shuffle feature of a traditional cd carousel. This unit replaced a very old but dependable Sony carousel, so I felt good about going with Sony again. The remote is decent too.

I've just seen that Onkyo has new dvd players out, and maybe I would have gone with those, to complement my Onkyo 575x, but no big deal.

I am very satisfied with the c660. No problems at all. No lip sycnch issues, nothing. Great sound, great picture, for $315. Not bad. PS, Sears offers to meet competitors prices, and also offers a 60 day money back guarantee. And they honor it too. I returned the Yamaha receiver with no problems at all.

This is a fine unit, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Compared to the Panasonic cv-50, Pioneer, might have gone with the new Onkyos, but...I won't give this one up

Strength:

Good features for the money. Build quality & looks. Great instruction manual for easy learning. 5-disc changer.

Weakness:

None so far

All I needed was a simple dvd player with Dolby digital and DTS output. This one had the features and price to back it up better than the others. The dvd player is mated with an Onkyo Integra DTR-7, Sony 43" rear projection, and M&K 750THX. I'm extremely happy with the setup and would recommend this dvd player to anyone. Picture and sound is terrific. Some people may be disappointed because it doesn't play CD-Rs and CD-RWs. To me, if you really care about the sound quility, you should be buying cds to listen to anyways. :)

Strength:

Good Picture : Alot of features for the money : Easy Remote

Weakness:

Warranty - Does not play CDR

This is the best I have found for the money and reputation. The picture is clear (component) on my 52 inch TV. The sound is clear. As far as I can tell it does not play CDR’s but I did not buy it for that I bought it for the DVD.
