Strength:

5 disc player, wide range of features, design,

Weakness:

size

I am very happy with the product i have purchased. I thought the price for a 5 disc DVD changer was better then paying $200. for a one disc changer. I also found that the many different features this player has helps to enhance the quality and sound of each DVD movie you watch. The screen saver idea is just cute, makes you feel as if it is a computer. Sony products are usually good and once again they have created a great pieace of work. I also enjoy there coverage they have on their product. Sony spells nothing less then "QUALITY."

Strength:

Easy to use, great Audio/ Video.

Weakness:

Big NO-NO to push the 'Open' button on remote while
the unit is behind a glass door.
Lack of 'full' CDR / CDRW support.

Very pleased with the unit, with the only exception being the lack of CDR support. One other question though... If it can supposedly play VCD's (Video CD's), where the hell can I rent some?? None at my Video store... I can certainly create my own VCD's on my PC, but they aren't recognized. (I haven't tried the silver bottomed disks yet; plan to do so ASAP)

Sounds like a bit of an oxymoron to me.

Build Quality, Audio/Video Performance

Weakness:

No zoom, might not play CD-R's.

I've only had this unit for one day but so far I'm quite impressed. The machine is sturdy and solid, totally unlike most of the DVD players on the market. (The Pioneer 3-disc changer was the ultimate featherweight!)

The only criticisms I have for this player are a lack of a zoom feature for those times when I'd prefer non-letterboxed viewing and the purported inability to play CD-R's.

I say 'purported inability' because I'm currently listening to a mix CD on the unit without any problems. For those who are interested I recorded it with a Plextor Plexwriter 8/4/32 burner on generic Office Depot 80-minute CD-R media. I used the burning software that came with the burner, which I believe was Easy CD Creator.

One very cool bonus of this machine is the multi-brand remote. It doesn't glow in the dark, but it is very well designed, although the fast/slow forward/reverse buttons aren't laid out very logically. The best thing, though, is the way it controls other components. It doesn't do absolutely everything, but it can control power and TV/video functions on a TV, and volume functions on a TV or receiver. Surprisingly, these functions can be assigned independently, so the power and input selectors act on my TV while the volume control acts on my receiver. This is a nice set of controls that means you usually only have to have the one remote handy while watching a movie.

Finally, I should point out that unlike the Pioneer changers that I've tried, the shuffle mode doesn't repeat songs that it's already played. There's nothing worse than putting 5 CD's in the changer only to have to run to the 'skip' button every 5 minutes!

All in all, highly recommended.

Strength:

5 disc changer, very clear, easy to use

Weakness:

want play CD-R's

Having the 5 disc changer is very nice, and suprisingly fast. I have the same trouble it want play CD-R's (I do have one CD-R that will work with it, I believe it was done with a fast recorder) but I agree with one of the guys below if you want quality sound go out and buy the real CD's. This player has a crystal clear picture and very crisp sound. I found the menu very easy to use and to have alot of features that all work very well. I would suggest this DVD to anyone, it has a great quality for a great price.

Strength:

outstanding picture(precision drive for scratches ect., active tilt for warped discs) cd's sound fantastic, very easy to set up, audio quality very good overall, basic but effective remote, lots of high end features for very good price.

Weakness:

none to my knowledge so far, unless you count no cd-r's or cd-rw's.

Mated this DVD player with my yamaha rx-795a(with dolby digital and DTS decoders built-in) and I am continually blown away by the performance.Precision drive, active tilt, 5 disc carousel changer,cd's, video cd's, very easy to configure to your home system set-up, awesome effects(multiple scan speeds, frame by frame, DVD, cd, and video cd text as well as inputting text with 300 disc memory.Subtitles, changing audio tracts, angles can all be changed or turned on and off without interrupting your movie.Bit rate(quality) for audio kbps and video mbps can be easily accessed as well as what layer the dvd is playing at(1 or 2). Parental control is a snap. Program, repeat, and random are there for 1 disc or all 5. Video quality is oustanding( I am using S-video), audio is pristine. I love this DVD player!!!. I paid $349.99 and it was worth every penny.

Video and Audio quality and Speed

Weakness:

A little noisier then I would like, rather large in size, menuing not very user freindly

I really like this DVD player. It has many internal options, as well as hookup options. I have noticed the high pitched whining noise the others have complained about, but it does seem to come and go with different DVDs.

The spin up time on this player is impressive. In just a few seconds its playing any DVD I pop in. No lip sync issues here, and I've tested about 15 movies so far.

Strength:

Usual Sony good looks, easy to learn and use, picture and sound quality is outstanding, quick disc loading

Weakness:

a clunking noise that all Sony changers I have ever heard make at startup....no big deal

This player is excellent! For the price you get a CD changer that can also handle DVD's too. The picture quality is outstanding as is the sound. I'm using the optical output for audio and I am glad I am. Absolutely crytstal clear and I'm using RCA cables, not even S-video. The player is also very quick to change and spin up a new disc. It takes roughly 9 seconds between discs. The only thing that concerned me was the sound it made when it started up....a clunking noise that sounds like something is broken inside. However, I went back to the dealer I bought it at and listened to theirs and it did it too. I then listened to my parents older Sony CD changer and that did it too. So I no longer pay any attention to it. It's barely noticeable anyway. If you already have a A/V receiver that has Dolby Digital/DTS decoders, go for this player. Excellent product!

None to speak of

Just purchased the unit from One Call(great support & prices). I am very pleased with this DVD player and would recommend it to anyone in need of a DVD/CD carousel player. I matched it up with my Sony 835 receiver and Take5 speaker system. An awesome combination!
