Have had this player for almost a month w/ no trouble. This is my 2nd venture into DVD land. My previous system was a sony and I just didn't understand all that stuff back then. Now I do (sort of). Have a Philipps home theater system, nothin fancy just what I need. This unit has very easy to understand directions and setup, I mean how technical does it really have to be. Picture and sound are amazing. The first movie I tested after setting up my system was Pearl Harbor, I thought my walls were going to crumble in on me, THX DVD's are incredible. Anyone looking for something affordable w/ reliability, this is the one for you. |

Strength:
nice design, excellent picture, plays perfect, very quiet.
Weakness:
none yet This is my first dvd player and so far I have no problems with it whatsoever. Has played a number of dvd's and yet no problems. Has very good picture quality and audio digital sound. Plays all my cd/r's without any problems. Easy to operate and blends nicely with my Denon audio receiver. Would recommend it to others! Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Great Price, Looks Sleek, Very Easy to use, Great Remote
Weakness:
Not a lot of better feautures such as zoom, or fast rewinds Ok, let me clear up a whole lot of rumors from the below reviews--IT IS NOT THE PLAYER THAT SKIPS, IT'S THE DVD DISC. Everytime I rent a disc and it skips (which is rare), the disc usually freezes and returns to the beginning of the film (a real pain in the ass). At first I thought it was the player, but I began taking out the disc's when they did that and I blew on them and wiped them, and they worked fine, even during the same part that it just skipped on. DVD's are very similar to CD's in that they scratch easily, but can be cleaned to reduce skipping. The only problems with this player that I can think of are that it doesn't have any zoom feature, and that it doesn't feautre a really fast rewind like some of the other players I have seen. This player goes X1 and X2 in rewind mode, but I've seen better players that can go in X2, X8, X16, and even X32. But whatever, for the price I paid, considering it has all the inputs and outputs I need and considering that it feautres surround mode and Dolby Digital, I love it. By the way, the control is great. Very light weight, slim, and self-explanitory. |

Strength:
Everything except that mentioned below.
Weakness:
Extremely limited disc media recognition. This machine is an embarrassment to me. I purchased it for the wrong reasons being that all my other equipment is Sony (remote control compatibility) and because it came as part of a package. Similar Products Used: None, but can compare to friends cheaper entry level machines that do much more! |

EVERYTHING !!!!! Took back after playing 15 mins. Terrible picture quality. Took back same nite !!!! My VHS player's picture has FAR superior picture!!!!!!!! Unit far inferior to DVD player it replaced (out for free repairs-Panasonic A310). SOny does not mean quality ! Those days are gone. If you are interested in a QUALITY DVD player with EXCELLENT picture & sound, look at the JVC model 45. FAR FAR Superior unit !! Similar Products Used: JVC45 |

Strength:
Unsurpassed sound and picture with nice on-screen menus.
Weakness:
Optical head alignment typical of most DVD/CD players May not play DVD-R created media without skipping. OK Sony has been getting a bad rap for not playing or skipping DVDs. Keep in mind you may think this is not true, but you really have to remember DVD players are marked FRAGILE on their packaging. So if you get yours home and the conrner of the box is smashed or dented in, guess what? You will have issues down the road, so go exchange it. Similar Products Used: Sony DVP-S360 Toshiba SD-2109 |

Strength:
Very high quality picture. User friendly remote.
Weakness:
Doesn't play cdr's. No slow forward or reverse on box(but on remote), actually there is a lack of buttons on the box, should be more user friendly. Slightly slow. I should have looked around more before i purchased this, just to fit the tastes that I desired, but overall a great product. I think it is just a little overpriced for the quality. |

Strength:
Unparalelled sound and picture quality with Sony's inherent ability to make its products the easiest for every customer.
Weakness:
None to speak of. This is the DVD player for anyone with the will to own an awesome home theater system without the technical brains to master complicated cables and instructions. The customer recieves outstanding quality and ease of use without sacrificing anything. Definitely a best buy. Similar Products Used: Other Sonys |

Strength:
Simplicity and ease of setup.
Weakness:
Unit turns off in miidle of play. Unit will turn off in the middle of playing a DVD movie. Sometimes it skips to a different scene. When it works the picture and sound are good, but when it stops working in the middle of your favorite movie, well. Will be returning the unit to get a refund. If I get an apple from a tree and it has a worm in it will I go back to the same tree for another apple. I don't think so. |

Strength:
Loads fast. Separate audio fields when using just through Television speakers. Easy setup and flawless play when running through AV Receiver for DD or DTS.
Weakness:
None so far. Those reviews that indicate a faulty player... maybe just a fluke? Nevertheless, I purchased the extended warranty since it was an open box. I have had no problems with my player. It has worked consistently now for three-plus months. If that changes, I'll get it fixed and then change my rating. For now, I highly recommend. |
