Strength:
DTS is pretty nice, great picture with component video, plenty of features for 200 dollar DVD player, remote is easy, fast and quiet. I like it a lot with my Wega.
Weakness:
It will play the majority of CD-R discs, but some still don't play just as they didn't in my old Philips DVD. It has a Coaxial Digital, Optical Digital, S-Video, Component Video connection, DTS support, Dolby Digital. Plenty of composite. Similar Products Used: Philips DVD player, really old. |

Strength:
sharp looks, superb picture and sound, reasonable price
Weakness:
picture blotchy in dark sequences. by some magical, predestined fate, the circuit city i went to sold the last samsung m301 dvd player thirty minutes before my arrival. i was about to leave when the friendly circuit city representative introduced me to the sweet sony dvp-ns300. impressed and rather pleased by the performance of my sony vcr, i whipped out my credit card without hesitation. to test the player, i popped in the light-intense "WHAT WOMEN WANT" dvd. after making slight modifications to my bedroom WEGA, i have to admit i was impressed with the quality of the picture. interestingly enough, the block noise reduction function seemed to prove itself quite well, smoothing out the edges of pertinent images. one thing that made me uneasy was the brightness of the text in caption mode. the other was a problem during dark sequences. shadows and night itself appears to be grainy and even choppy with the contrast to the scenic light source. ive seen this problem with other similarly priced models. but aside from these nuances, sony came out a real winner. the silver finish and build was a beautiful addition and finale to my bedroom center. Everything including the price that I paid for it
Weakness:
Loading mechanism is to noisy and the remote control layout. No zoom! I was looking for a cheap dvd player to pu in my bed room. After trying to look for the impossible (the best for the cheapest price) I stumbled into Ultimate Electronics. I looked around this high-end audio video store and found an open box item Sony dvd player for $35. I came with a 3 year warranty for only $12 extra dollars. This dvd player does everything. I ended up putting it in my hometheater room. Connected to my Sony Wega, this machine is flawless. It has a hypnotising picture quality (STUNNING) great audio. If you do not want to power up the reciever amp it has virtual sorrund modes that do work. I wintessed no artifacts in the backgrounds and dark scenes. This is an overall player specially for the price. Similar Products Used: Fisher s-1000, Sony Dvp ns700 |

Good Video And Audio Performance
Weakness:
No Direct Chapter Access On The Remote So far, in the very brief time (four days) that I have had this product, I am well pleased with its video and audio performance. Since I have had the S360 for several months, and it has performed well (I have read the problems other people have had with it--not working after a period of time), I got the NS300 because of my positive experience with the S360, plus reviews that have praised Sony's video and audio performance in all of their players plus the positive in-player letterbox performance. Also, I enjoy and use the two sets of audio outputs. I only wish that Sony would have kept direct chapter access on the remote. I thought that the S360 remote would allow me direct access with the NS300, but it does not. Anyway, at least it is a minor problem. The "instant replay" feature (which backs up the scene by ten seconds) is a nice plus. Similar Products Used: Sony S360 |

Strength:
Easy set-up, appealing cosmetically, price.
Weakness:
no numbers on remote This was my first player. It does everything I want it to. Loads quickly and is quiet. Does play the cd-r's that I have even though manual says it wont. My next player will be one that plays DVD Audio in enhanced mode, not just dd 5.1. |

Strength:
None, phony trust because it's a "SONY"
Weakness:
picture is just awful, the chroma problem I read about on the internet is SOOOO obvious on solid colors! I am returning this machine tomorrow. I am just about to give up on DVD players in general. I have over 300 laserdiscs, and while they are not quite as sharp, the actually look like film, not digital bits on my screen. Maybe I should have kept the Sony 7000 I bought back in 1997. Eveything else I have tried is Made In China crap. The last DVD player I bought, a JVC machine, started freezing up after two weeks of use, and I only ran a total of maybe 10 hours on it. Now I get this Sony and any solid color bleeds/and/or has the horizontal line/Sony chroma upsampling problem, which I researched AFTER buying the player. Plus, the 18 year old 'salesperson' at Circuit City assured me it plays CDR's.....what a lie. SONY! Listen UP! I am willing to pay $100 more for a player that is actually Made In Japan instead of China. I am so MAD! By the way, my friend has a Sony 360 that is now 14 months old, and GUESS WHAT!!!!! C13/NO DISC! Similar Products Used: Sony 360, Sony 7000, Samsung, JVC players |

skipped only once since I have it. This dvd player in my opinion is better than some of the reviews it has recieved. I have watched many movies on this dvd player with no problems at all. I only had one problem when watching a dvd (the dvd would freeze and return to the begining of the move) but it was the DVD THAT WAS DEFECTIVE not the player. I know this because I played the same dvd on my PS2 and on my computer and had the same problems with the dvd, it would freeze during a particular scene in the movie. The fact of the matter is a lot of dvd's come out defective. Manufacturers want to put movies out on dvd so quickly (to make a profit on this dvd craze) that sometimes the dvd's are not recorded properly. So before you throw out your dvd player out the window TEST YOUR DVD'S on other players to find out if its the dvd or dvd player thats defective. I have noticed that newer dvd's are the ones that skip more frequently because of all the extra footage that is included in the disc. Older dvd's dont have so much information crammed in the disc (usually just the movie and no extra footage, deleted scenes, directors commentary, etc) so your dvd reads it a lot easier with no problems. One more thing stay away from samsung dvd players, my last dvd player was a samsung and it was horrible. Similar Products Used: samsung dvd player |

good picture quality, bnr is useful, and sound quality is superb
Weakness:
no cd-r playback for the amount of money i paid, i consider this a steal and a great value. so far i havent run into any major problems and playback has run smoothly. for the looks, price point, and adequate features, this has to be one of the best entry level dvd players out there |
