    Strength:

    Has worked good

    Weakness:

skips frames every now and then, plus there is no manual eject button.

Woked fine cept for the occasional skipping to next frame on DVD's,,, quit working in the middle of a DVD lastweek... power just went off and it won't power back up and of course there DVD is stuck inside. Can't figure out how to get it out, we have even opened it and there isn't even a manual eject. Don't know what to do.

    Strength:

    Quality picture. Functioned well.

    Weakness:

It quit now. $200 for tow years use, I cannot complain too much.

I bought the Sony DVP-NS400D in Sep. 2001. It worked fine on DVDs, VCDs, and music CDs until Sep. 2003. The problem is it won't eject the VCD inside of the machine. When power up the unit, the display shows Sony DVD and Standby momentary, then the power indicator went off by itself. No matter how I try, it just won't eject the last VCD I played. Now I am stuck. After I read all the 61 reviews, I found there were similar problems with this model. Is there anyone can help? Thanks for viewing my two cents.

    Strength:

Plays DVD, DVD-R, DVD-R/W, VCD, and CDs.

    Weakness:

On screen menu can use some help. Also the front panel's fluorescent readout is a little confusing at it is too small and the spacing for the title and minutes and seconds should be more spaced out.

An excellent player. Purchased it from Goodguys over the internet for $200 with free shipping and no tax (don't know how they handle the "no tax" since I live in California and there have tons of stores here-I guess they eat the cost). The player had no problems with anything that I threw at it, which are mainly original DVDs, homebrewed cheap media VCDs and DVD-Rs created on a computer CD or DVD burner. Had very few C:13 (disk dirty errors). After retrying, or ejecting and playing the disk again, it would play it fine. Video quality is excellent, although I cannot discern any video difference between S-Video and A/V outputs. The screen menu is rather antique, but the essential video decoding parts are doing an excellent job.

    Strength:

Great player all around, when it works.

    Weakness:

Sony seems to have a problem with many of thier units breaking just after the warrenty is up. No Disc common error.

We bought the Sony DVP-NS400D just over a year ago along with a total Sony surround sound system. We loved it. It played all our DVDs perfectly. Until it stopped working that is. Any DVD we put in it gave us the "No Disc" message after spinning it for awhile. I called our authorized Sony repair place and took it in for a $40 look and see (cost to be applied to fixing it). Needless to say, just barely being over it's one year warrenty, our DVD player now makes a better door stop. It would cost us as much as getting new one to fix it. So I'm going to get a new one and it's not going to be a Sony. I would have given Sony another chance, but after doing exhaustive searches on the web it seems that this is a common problem and Sony will not even acknowledge it. For those of you that still love your Sony DVD players, I assume that you have only had them for less than a year or that you are lucky. And if you are lucky count your blessings as it really is a great DVD player, when it works.

    Strength:

Versatilty, Picture Quality, all the added features, Sony's DVD Text for short titled movies

    Weakness:

    Sony's lack of zoom feature

At the time I got this DVD player, they were still selling for 250 on the self inside Sears. I knew the features Sony offers my parents have the DVP-S530D. I was very suprised to see the new menus and ease of use. The picture quality through component is great. The FF and RW are some of the cleanest I have seen, and the added 2X helps out. The Player looks great when playing burned Video CDs. Layer switch is faster than the S530D.

    Strength:

plethora of fuctions. slim, good display

    Weakness:

remote for tv functions, but i have three remotes that do the same thing any way

i like this dvd player. it is my first, but i have viewed a lot of different ones at others houses. i have had good experiences with it. it does freeze for a second or so, but that is only with dvds that are old and scratched. if you have to worry about playing cd on it than you don't have a real home entertainment system( no cd player)

    Strength:

    looks good, nice OSD menus.

    Weakness:

PLAYER PAUSES 3 SECONDS DURING DUAL LAYER CHANGE. THAT REALLY SUCKS CRAP. also no progressive scan, no zoom, no mp3 support.

you can get a much better player in late 2002 w/ mp3 support and progressive scan for less than $200. this unit was relatively expensive and is lacking some features.

    No strengths

    Weakness:

doesn't work and its store outlet and Sony's guarantees suck.

The DVD quit working the day after the 30 day store guarantee. Called sony and they don't have a local repair store, so I would have had to package an mail it to California. As is I haven't used it for 9 months. I won't buy a Sony product again.

    Strength:

I only recommend this DVD player if you want to buy one and then get in the class action suit against SONY.

    Weakness:

I always bought SONY, now I will never buy SONY.

The worst DVD Player that I have ever seen. My first problem is that it has a delay, that freezes the screen in most every movie that you will watch. Then after only 6 months, I get a error message c 13:00, I look up the error message on the net. I found a page that everyone is having the same trouble, and my DVD player is ruined.

    Strength:

    As above

    Weakness:

    - confusing menu (because of icons), but after some investigation and study there is no problem navigating it - this player is not always allowing to convert to Pan&Scan, in order to get picture fit into 4:3 TV screen, basically no zoom.

I bought this unit week ago for a decent price (c.a. $240) and I'm really impressed because of what I got. I tested this player with many DVD's. Below are the most important things I noticed and I'd like to highlight: - excelent picture and sound in DD and DTS modes - no "lip-sync" problem, what is really nice, especially that previous Sony players had this issue - quick layer change, (c.a. 1 sec.), without any "strange" effects, what's very good especially at that price - no any skipping of tracks/chapters etc. noticed so far, even playing scratched and dirty discs - plenty of adjustments for sound&picture, which allow you to tweak them as you wish - plenty of sockets (RGB, S-VHS, RCA etc), which help to connect to TV-set and receiver in many ways What's concerning CD playback. If somebody is expecting that ANY DVD player for such a price would play CDs with a decent quality of sound, I would suggest to that person ... to go to doctor :-)). Because it's ridiculous, so I don't understand some of the reviews here saying that the sound from CDs is crap, please compare this player to CD players for $100 or even less and afterwards make such comments and mislead others. Basically excellent player for that price. Best regards.
