Strength:
Picture, Sound, Compatibility, and Remote are all class leaders.
Weakness:
CD sound is good but like most DVD player not quite at the level of a dedicated CD player. Excellent player which in versions since September 1999 has become truly a flawless player. No lipsync problems. No known problems or incompatiblites with any disk made. Excellent picture. Excellent sound. The BEST DVD remote for any player made. Simply once the ROM software was fixed (and if you have an older model they will fix it for free and handle all shipping) which it was from the get go in my model (serial numbers can be found on the back of the unit and back of the box, to see what serial numbers have problems look at other reviews in this page) this model is the model to get IMHO. Similar Products Used: Pansonic A-110 which like everyone elses died on me after 11 months. |

I just got this player after returning a JVC KV511 for a stuttering problem. Wow. The Sony was definitely worth the extra money. I love the menu interface and the remote is a dream! I havn't noticed the lip-sync problem. I'm hoping to be one of the 50% of folks that don't seem to have the problem. I noticed the flat or "thin" sound while playing CDs via optical. I don't think it's an issue, though. It has optional connections plus I already have a CD Player ;) I'm very pleased!!! BTW, I tried several other players in the store before deciding on the Sony. |

I got this player a couple of days ago, and was watching Top Gun when I experienced the "lip synch" problem everyone seems to harp about. I just restarted the chapter, no big deal, I thought. However, the sound level dropped to about half, and has been this way ever since. I also get no LFE. I basically have to turn up my receiver (Sony STRDA333ES) twice as loud to hear the equivalent sound. Also, I can barely hear second audio tracks. Anyone else have this problem? I'm trying to figure out if it is the receiver or DVD player. I have only played DVD's through my receiver, so I can't really judge the receiver using a different source. CD's seem to sound fine, but like I said, I haven't listened to CD's with this receiver before (use a 2 channel amp instead). I checked the coax cable, and even switched it out (from Monster Interlink 100 to Tara Labs or whatever). So, is it the receiver, or the DVD? |

I have had the lip-sync problem too with this player, but the problem is not enough right now to make me return this. The sound about a second before the action in the movie "Contact". The remote is ok.I cannot get the balance setup tones to come out of the speakers. Other than that, this is a decent DVD player. |

I just recently purchased the Sony 530 player. Just like many have raved on before the player gives superior picture and sound. Now the important stuff. Many people have also complained of a lip sync problem with the Sony models. A simple fix may be to ajust the delay setting to your center channel. This is an advanced option in the DVD setup. What I have read on the subject tells me that the problem is due to the distance that the audience sits from the screen in a typical movie theater and becomes compounded occasionally on DVD. Hopefully this takes care of any problems some of you have been having. Five stars, for now. |

I purchased this unit a few weeks ago. I was impressed by the picture quality, but after watching a few movies, I noticed the lip-sync problem. It occurs once every so often and it is quite irksome, but the player is much better than most others that i've seen. I'm using my Yamaha RXV-795. |

Strength:
Good picture quality, great sound all the features of higher end players
Weakness:
lip sync problem, power up quit working consistantly. I have had two players of this model and have eventually experienced the same problem with both. Everything works great until one day I try to turn the player on and nothing happens. Repeatedly trying the POWER yields nothing. I have to either pry the tray open or unplug the player to get it to power up again. Needless to say, the fact that I have had two players that have had the exact same problem is very disturbing. |

Strength:
When working it is all you need.
Weakness:
Lip sync and shut down issues. Like some other reviews, when working it is great but there is a lip sync problem when the DVD player is left on, as is the case in our household. The player is also prone to just shuting down the movie and you must reset to continue. This is not a case of poor ventilation but appears to be associated with the player's internal ability to remove heat. I would not recommend the player for purchase since this problem appears typical to the player. DO NOT PURCHASE. |
