15 years and not a problem, i use it as a back up CD player, and yes compared to high end cd players is not as good, but not bad at all, for the money, sound and reliability its actually quite good. way better than most dvd nowadays for listening music

Strength:

yes the remote is excellent. the size of the play is good too. i guess i need to go shopping for a new one now! cheers!

Weakness:

doesn't play burnt CDs

dang i just joined the C 13:00 club. who knew there was one out there. anyways after 7 or 8 years i can't remember my dvd player has finally crapped out on me.. that's not so bad, i got my moneys worth i'd have to say. I really liked this model. the only downfall was it never palyed anything burnt. i'll probably stick with sony. i just hope this doesn't mean the rest of my entertainment system is going to go kaput on me now!!!

Strength:

Co-axial or optical audio out.
Makes for a great, budget CD player for the office or bedroom.
Can be hooked up to computer speakers via the headphone output (no need for a stereo receiver).

Weakness:

Poor reputation.
Headphone out sound quality.
Lack of Progressive Scan even though it has component out.
Obsolete.

I must be one of the lucky ones. After 7 years, this unit is still running without a hiccup. Currently employed as a CD player for lack of Progressive Scan (has been replaced with 3 other DVD players). There is a built-in headphone unit with volume control but the sound quality is weak (lacking in clarity, richness, fullness). There is a co-axial and optic output which makes this a cheap transport if you have an external DAC or if your receiver can decode better.

Basically, this unit has served it's purpose and has been retired to a secondary role.

Strength:

Looks nice and thats ALL it has going for it.

Weakness:

C1300, Insert Disc error. Being a Sony?

Player was a nice unit UNTIL the dreaded C1300 and insert disc error. Which came on slowly through the 3 years, Now after very little playing for 3 years, all it does is C1300 or insert disc error, On ALL store bought DVD's. Never again Sony, I'll pass on all you have to offer. As the President says. Fool me once, shame on you?.AhhBe wuh, You can't be fooled again.

Strength:

Sony DVP-S560D is a nice-looking unit. I like the Remote too.

Weakness:

You probably will have problems with your DVD player which will require the adjustments I have written about!

My Sony DVP-S560D DVD player started having some of the same problems as other people have seen in this forum. Upon searching Google for an Error Message C:13:00, I ran across some VERY INTERESTING INFO! My Sony DVD player has a hidden menu that comes up when you hit THREE Remote Keys in the following order: Title button, Clear button, and Power button! However, the Sony DVD player MUST be in the STANDBY MODE in order for these remote keys to work! Follow the steps below to perform an adjustment that may clear up lots of problems with your SONY DVD player. 1. Turn on your TV & go to the Video Input your DVD player is attached to. My DVD player is connected to "Video 1". 2. With the Sony DVD Player in Standby Mode, Hit the REMOTE buttons, A. Title button, B. Clear button, and C. Power button. 3. You should see a TEST MODE MENU. Go down to the Drive Auto Adjustment menu. 4. Under Drive Auto Adjustment, go to Adjustment Menu. Under the Adjustment Menu, you will see five adjustments: 0. ALL 1. DVD-SL (Means Single Layer DVD) 2. CD 3. DVD-DL (Means Dual Layer DVD) 4. SACD 5. Put a single-layer DVD in the player. (It helps to insert a DVD that you have been having problems with!) The screen will tell you to do the steps to make the ADJUSTMENT. DO THE STEPS EXACTLY AS SHOWN! If you make a mistake in the steps, just go back and redo it from the start. I did this adjustment a couple times and it MUST be done in exact order shown or it will NOT do the proper single-layer adjustment. 6. Put a Dual-Layer DVD that you may have had problems with in the player. Once again, follow the same exact steps as for a single-layer DVD. So far, doing these adjustments has done WONDERS for my Sony DVD player - which I was about to throw in the trash! It's too bad you can not get any help from the Sony Tech Support people - especially the First-Layer Tech Support! All they want to do is try to SELL you another DVD player OR tell you to send your player in for a refurbished one! I 'suspect' Sony does the above adjustments and puts them back in their inventory to resell as refurbished units! (I have no proof of this, but it's just a hunch.) What have you got to lose if you have a Sony DVD player and are having problems with it as I did?

Strength:

Contrast, skin tones, sound quality (when it works)

Weakness:

Does not working count as a weakness?

Sucks. C:13 errors on good discs. Skips, stalls and generally sucks in reliability. I used to love Sony, but now I wouldn't buy Sony-branded air if I were chained under water.

Strength:

It was nice while it work and that was not long.

Weakness:

Reliablity

I to bought a DVP-S560D and thought that I had purchased the best player, boy was I wrong. After only 12 months the thing would freeze about 3/4 of the way through a DVD. I thought the thing was over heating or something like that, I didn't know that we all had purchased a piece of crap that Sony will not take back even though they know they that they have distributed a bad product, notice they do not make it any longer and thier site does not even support it. I would stay away from Sony and go elsewhere since they do not take care of the customers properly. Take this boat anchor back and replace it with a proper DVD player.
