Weakness:
Only losers post bogus repair instructions on web sites. Well-intentioned but poorly documented (so as to be useless) repair instructions are only slightly less pathetic. This post is about my experience trying to implement a ''fix'' for the ''No disc/C:13 problem'' that I found on this website. According to what someone posted here, Sony has released two service bulletins (numbered ''MDP0068'' and ''MDP0069) that state that the C:13 bug can be fixed by replacing surface mount fuse F402 by a short (or jumper wire) and changing surface mount resistors R416 and R418 from 150K to 82K. Also, the post instructed that if the resistance between pins 21 and 22 of the flex cable to the optical pickup assembly is less than 6 ohms, the pickup should be replaced. The Sony DVP-S560D that I opened up had at least three printed circuit boards with surface mount components (plus two with through-hole components). Of the three boards with surface mount components, none of the resistors on the three boards had reference designators! I would encourage the reader not to attempt to perform the above repair unless further information which specifically identifies which components are to be changed. (Fortunately, the DVD player that I attempted to fix was given to me because it didn''t work, so I have lost nothing from this experience.) Similar Products Used: Panasonic DVD-RV32 works swell. |

Noisy, defective unit Having the same problem. Last two weeks, would start cutting out and skipping in the middle of films, with C 13:00 and finally, went to No Disc. What a disappointment, usually relatively happy with Sony product. Similar Products Used: Panasonic 120 |

Obviously flawed design compounded by corporate arrogance Wow, am I glad to see we''re not the only ones experiencing the problems with this unit. In the last week, our slide downhill has begun; this unit ALWAYS was temperamental about audio CDs and introduced us to the "No Disk" error. C13:00, however, only arrived this week, after.....yes....15 months of operation. I e-mailed the address posted below re: the class action lawsuit and intend to join. I am posting the reply here for the benefit of others who paid for a Sony product in good faith. "Dear Ms. XXXXX, Thank you for your inquiry concerning a class action re Sony DVDs. Our firm is located in NJ and we do have experience with class action lawsuits. The Sony Corp. has hired a law firm to defend their product. I am sure there will be a great deal of pretrial discovery before there is any resolution. At this point we are told that Sony intends to vigorously defend its product however judging from all of the postings it appears to us that they will have their hands full. if you would like to join the class or just be kept advised of the case status, please feel free to contact us. Very truly yours, R------- Galex" Obviously Sony has recently decided its bottom line from this product is more important than its reputation, or it would not have hired a law firm to "Vigorously Defend" the worst consumer product I''ve ever encountered. After all...if hiring a law firm is cheaper for Sony than fixing or correcting the problem, it must be a HUGE problem. Wouldn''t you think? Glad that those of you who aren''t yet having problems enjoy your player...and since you''ve all posted here, you know where to come when it blows up. Sony DVP-S560D is a piece of junk just as everyone else here has noted. I have tried SonyHacker''s recalibration without success. I want to try SoCal''s F402 fuse jumper, but can''t find F402. Has anyone else had success finding F402 and making this solution work? |

Strength:
Good picture when it plays.
Weakness:
As stated above! I am joining the club. It seems that for the past 2 months I have been getting the dreaded pauses and picture freeze that so many people are writing about. Occassionally I have noticed pixel crawl and observed the dvd jump from somewhere in the middle of a chapter to the beginning. It just sort of ruins the whole DVD experience. Only rarely have I encountered the 13:00, dirty DVD. I have never played a rental DVD in my unit. With the large volume of reviews that are based on the same problems it looks like Sony would be investigating the issue. If Sony cannot atleast look into the problem (which is fairly wide spread), and come up with a reasonable and fair solution, then my only option will be to get at new DVD player that IS NOT a Sony. Good picture quality for the scenes that don''t skip
Weakness:
I stated it above I believe I am another person to fall prey to the Sony snafu. I purchased the D-560D approximately 15 month ago. The player worked fine up until about 3 month ago. I all started with certain rented disc skipping entire scenes. When reversings in slow X2 and going back to the scene of the crime, the crazy thing would do the same thing. The best you can do run slowly though the pause/play routine until you feel comfortable to let the thing play again. Now, every disc will skip at some point, which is driving me crazy. I have yet to see the dreaded "No Disc" error, but am awaiting for it to raise it ugly head. I am so frustrated at this quality-failed product that I have begun watching videos on my VCR again (What a waste of $250). If there is any action arising from all these complaint, count me in. A company should realize that they have a problem with their product, and step up to the plate to right the situation (The company I work for sure would, as they deem customer satisfaction their #1 priority) Are you listening Sony? Do the right thing! Similar Products Used: None now, but Sony will never be one I''ll choose |

noisy transport, resests movies, really bad player when compared to others. I originally wanted to write a reveiw about how the dvp7000 looks so much better than this unit, but I was relieved when I saw all the negative comments about this player, I received this unit has a gift two years ago, had the same problem C1300 error luckily I gave it back to sony in warranty time, have not had the problem since but glad I sold it away and traded up to progressive scan model now my movies play straight through without reseting, its the little things in life! Doesn''t work C13 is the name of an explosive, isn''t it? Shame on Sony. I''ve got the same "No Disk"/"C13.00" problem. I''ve had the thing about 4 months (but I didn''t buy it new -- the seller must have read this site and decided to get away from this unit before it''s planned obsolescence came into play)æ Similar Products Used: spatula, toilet, windshield wipers (which also don''t play DVD''s) |
