HAD a great picture, HAD great sound...HAD, HAD, HAD.....
Weakness:
This device will self destruct in just over one year... Glad to see I''m not the only one having this problem. Had mine for a little over a year, got the "No Disk" thing, then it just locked up. Never even saw the C13..now it just comes on for about a min., says "Standby",....."Sony DVD" and turns off. I can''t even open it up to get my DVD out. None of the buttons do a thing. I''ll wait for a response from Sony (if I get one) before I take a screwdriver to it to get my DVD out. Hasn''t worked now for two weeks...Lets hope Sony redeems its once good name... Weakness:
It''s a Yugo. No guarantees once it''s off the lot. Same as all...crapped out after 18 months, "No disk" error. Tried the diagnostic program outlined here, which didn''t work for my system. Just finished doing the "solder a jumper wire over F402 fuse", and it worked perfectly. It is a risk, but if you''re planning on tossing the whole box, you might as well go for it. This thing hadn''t worked in months, and it''s great now. For anyone who doesn''t want to try this fix on their own, I''ll do the electrical work for you for a small fee. Better than buying a new one. |

Used to get the c13 error until I performed the calibration suggested by Sony Hacker. Don''t know if this is a permanent fix but 1 year after calibration the unit works perfectly ; except for one occassion when the No Disk error reappeared and was fixed by powering the unit down. Note you should use bot the single and double layer calibrations to fix the unit. |

Built-in decoder, Digital & component jacks
Weakness:
Does not play CDRs i purchased this machine in december of 2000. i had just bought a new 32" tv with component video inputs, but my sony receiver was almost seven years old, so it didn''''t have any built-in decoding or higher quality (digital or component) video inputs. so the S560D was a great match and a reasonable deal with its component video out and built-in decoding. while i didn''''t encounter any of the major problem some other reviews have, i did have a couple of issues with the machine. 1) the S560D does not play CDRs or CDRWs. that became a HUGE problem for me. 2) when in use, it would make a slight ticking noise - very rapid, about twice a second. for the most part it would be concealed by what ever you were watching or listening to, but it was just loud enough to be annoying during quieter parts of movies. my wife said she never really noticed it, but it would drive me nuts. Compact size. Good features.
Weakness:
Out of warranty "self-destruct" feature. Class action required service policy. I can''t believe I''m joining the ranks of disgruntled 560 owners. By chance I found this site and read the reviews on this player about 3 months ago. I''ve had my player a little over a year and was praying that perhaps I''d escape the carnage. Just last night got my first freeze up and "C:13" error. I''m not looking forward to more of this. Nor explaining to my wife what a lemon this product may turn out to be after begging and pleading to strech the family budget to get us into the digital age. Definately not a good "my first Sony" experience. Similar Products Used: None-this was my first DVD player. How sad. |

Don''t last more than one year! This was a great DVD untill the problems started with freezing up and giving a C:13 code. I''m very frustrated with Sony because they will not stand behind their Product. This is very clear that the unit has a defect and should be repaired at no charge! |

Strength:
Great system when working. User friendly controls and a high-tech feel.
Weakness:
Poor reliability (obviously). Many many movies have skipped and not played as I cussed the rental stores. I guess I now know the truth. I guess I found the right place. My dvd has been showing pixels for close to a year. It then started not playing rental dvd''s and then finally last week it stopped all-together. I have experienced prior to now the C-13 error countless times. I have sent an email to Sony Corp. concerning the death of the player and I am awaiting the response. If I receive less than a free repair from the letter I will dismiss Sony products for good which is a shame considering my entire entertainment system is Sony. I hope they pull through. The remote control works. With the disc tray out it will hold my drink while I load a DVD into my other, non-Sony, player that works.
Weakness:
Hmmm? Doesn''t Work. I have had this player sice December 2000. I didn''t have much time to use it in the first year but when I did it worked fine. Since many of the DVDs coming out are only in letterbox format now, I found that until I bought a bigger TV, currently 31", it was not that great to watch. A few months ago I startred having problems with the ''no disc'' error. I thought it was the discs causing the problem. Recently I tried to look into the problem and came across this review area and also on CNET. After seeing several hundred reviews with everybody having the same problem I contacted Sony by letter. I asked that they either fix the unit or replace it for nothing. A few days later I received a call from them. They were ''nice'' enough to offer to fix the player for the basic Sony service center flat rate. The offer got even better when as another option they would double the standard 1 year warranty if I were to buy another Sony DVD player and send them the receipt. I told them that was not acceptable and they had nothing more to offer. I mentioned that hundreds of people are having the sme problem and it''s increadable that SOny is not stepping up to the plate and fixing the problem. What would have been the big deal to them to fix this unit for no charge. I own a ton of Sony equipment but that is going to end. Check out Panasonic players if you are in the market for a DVD player, as I am now. They seem to give you the best performance for the money. Similar Products Used: Will be anything but Sony. |

Great picture, great sound, great unit...
Weakness:
...when it worked. ALSO, 5.1 outputs are redundant with todays recievers. No need for the player AND the reciever to have dolby digital decoders. Same problem as everyone else. However, Im taking up a new hobby in dvp-s560d dvd player repair, and am trying to get my hands on some more broken players. Want to sell your junk to me? Let me know: dtmiller28@hotmail.com After about 10 months of LIGHT use, my player started with the C:13:00 schtick. Thought it was dust. THEN...the No Disk B.S. Couldnt play half the disks I owned. And then, all of a sudden, I couldnt play any of them. |

Problem with F402 fuse blowing in normal use. Sony DVD "NO DISC" fuse repair details. This repair was carried out on a DVP S336 but may work on other models. I had NO DISC from the word go, was purchased as faulty. I opened up the system and took the dvd drive unit out be careful as it is socketed to the mainboard and you have to lift it carefully. I then soldered a jumper wire over the F402 fuse that is located on the underside of the dvd drive pcb. Use thin wire and connect either side of the fuse together, solder right at the bottom where the contacts to the circuit board are and be very carefull not to drip any solder onto any other components, use a fine tip soldering iron, and small amounts of solder. I then reassembled, and now it runs fine. I have digital pictures of the repair if anyone need help locating the fuse. The exact fuse type is a DAITO Micro Fuse Model No KE08 rated at 0.8A Hope this helps! G3N1U5 Similar Products Used: Samsung DVD709 Smart DVD 2000 |
