Strength:

good looking

Weakness:

fails to work after 1 year or so with a much higher price

I bought the SONY DVP-S560D on 10-10-2000 at H.H.Greg and I paid $299.00(before tax). From the end of last year, the player started to show me C 13:00 error frequently, and it also skipped chapters frequentlyin the middle of playing. When I checked the operation manual, it saids this error may be caused by dirty disc. But actually, some discs I put in are brand new, and I don't think those brand new discs are dirty or have any defects at the same time. Right now, the player fails to read any discs by showing me "no disc". Just minutes ago I learned from some comsumers reviews about this product, that this symptom happened frequently on this model. I also checked SONY service online, it will at least cost me $174 to repair it by the flat rate, if the flat rate cannot be applied, it will be even more expensive to fix it. I would only suggest that you not buy this product if you don't want your DVD player stops working after only 1 year or so. I am not an expert on this kind of product to judge whether this kind of symtom is an obvious product defect or not even though it looks like it is( statistically too high)but this will defenitely make me think it twice before I buy any SONY product next time

Strength:

After an hour of use - it keeps my coffee warm enough to drink.

Weakness:

Starbucks is only a block away

I'm so excited I bought into the greatest new electronics phase ** Disposable Electronics ** I guess next thing is we'll all buy DVDs that dissolve after 2 showings. I haven't watched past an hour in 15 movies. The guys at Best Buy think I'm crazy - first happened on Moulin Rouge, and I exchanged the DVD 3 times telling them they were selling crappy movies. (guess I owe them an apology) I signed up for class action (maybe that's the C in c 13:00) code for the $13.00 back we'll all get for signing our name on the suit. BTW - Anyone ever notice how HOT the player gets underneath after that hour before it crashes? - could it be an overheating thing? You know...I had an old 1971 BMW 2002 that would flood all the time - If you let it sit fr 20 minutes, can you restart it? Anyway - guess I'll look at Phillips, Panasonic - or hell, I'll go to Best Buy to buy my next one and give them an apology while I'm at it.

Strength:

Great Quality, Easy to work with menu's, When it works...

Weakness:

tick, tick, tick, BOOM! C 13:00

I am glad to see that I am not the only one having this problem with my dvd player, I bought mine in November 2000, just this last week it has been skipping, jumping, restarting, I keep getting NO Disk and when it does recognize the disk, I have been getting ERROR C 13:00. I bought the Extended Warranty on mine, hope it turns out to be worth the extra $$$. But if there is any petition out there to sign against this thing so that sony would recall it, put my name on it! There is no reason for this problem to occur, it just happened. their $179.00 Repair charge is INSANE!

Fails after 4 to 16 months

BEWARE OF THIS PRODUCT!! The Sony DVP-S560D is known to have a defect that appears between 4 and 16 months of typical operation. The symptoms of this issue include improper video and audio syncing, skipping chapters during operation, C 13:00 errors appearing on the display, and finally failing to read any DVD disk resulting in “No Disk” error. Several of Sony’s other DVD players also exhibit the same faults including the DVP-S360. It is my opinion that these problems are related to the inability to properly track and eventually read the disk. Thus far, I have done extensive research on this issue and found thousands of other consumers whom have experienced the same issues. Complicating this problem, Sony refuses to replace or fix these units, offering only a costly $200.00 service charge to fix what certainly appears to be poor engineering on Sony’s behalf. Internet research has also revealed that there is at least one group seeking restitution via a class action lawsuit against Sony on this same issue. My advice is to not purchase this product. If you have already purchased the unit, avoid running it any longer then absolutely necessary, thus don’t leave the DVD in the carrier needlessly spinning at the menu. If you are experiencing some or all of the of the above symptoms, contact user “robbfort” on AudioReview.com and request to become part of the class action law suit against Sony.

Strength:

Played fine when working.

Weakness:

Stopped right after the warranty expired! I hope this is not a feature that SONY programmed into their DVD players.

The player just stopped working showing "NO DISC" error and I already ran out of warranty. I called SONY but to no use. Now looking at the other posts it seems that this is a feature of this DVD player. SONY is going downhill with their product line quality. I would strongly advise you folks not to buy this DVD player.

Strength:

Works during warranty.

Weakness:

Breaks after an year of operation with "NO DISC" error. I have seen hundreds of posts with this problem. But a big company like sony should not deny that there is a problem with this product.

I bought this just over an year ago. Worked pretty well until the warranty just expired. In the middle of watching a movie, it stops. NO DISC. Does not play DVD, CD or VCD. Cleaned head. Tried SonyHackers Auto Calibration. No Luck. get failures. I still have to try the f402 fuse fix. I called up sony, The sony rep said "I do not confirm or deny that we are aware of this problem". He also said that Since this has served me more than a year I should be happy, and about one year is the expected life. Give me a break. You pay quite a bit extra because it is a Sony. And expect just one to 2 years of product life? He said someone from sony will call back. The person who called back said that they would repair this for just $176, for a 90 day warranty. I would rather buy a new one NOT from sony though.

Strength:

Great picture and sound. Slim and trim. Multiple audio and video outputs.

Weakness:

Skips and freezes all the time now. Dreaded C:13 error.

A total piece of crap!! I''ve had this player for over 2 years now and it just recently started freezing and skipping on me, and before it didn''t do that. The C:13 error comes on more often than not now and it''s making me angry. We as consumers need to do something about this, because I''m a big Sony lover, and for this to happen to us, considering how expensive these players are, is not right. I''d love to get involved in the class action suit guys, just let me know what I have to do. I have the S360 as a backup, as well as the PS2, and now I''m thinking of getting an XBox as well, but I shouldn''t have to do this should I? Let''s get Sony!!!!

It''s probably break again.....

I can''t believe it.... After 5 months of this thing sitting in my bedroom, dead as far as I was concerned (C:13/No Disk) error. It happened almost 5 months ago, and I bought a Toshiba to replace this Sony piece of junk, I just now got around to trying the F402 jumper trick. AND IT WORKED!!!!!!!! It''s in the bedrrom right now playing Jaws on my 27"..... Amazing. Thanks to Sony Hacker and the rest of the guys who figured this out. I stil don''t trust it enough to hook up to living room system, but I guess I can watch dvd''s in the bedroom now... Cool....
