Works during warranty period.

Self destructive after warranty period. Well folks, Finally got my DVD to work again. I had the infamous "NO DISC" error. Thanks to all who have posted here and other news groups. I initially tried the AutoCalibrate, but was always getting failure. I got some help from another news group which showed me the exact location of the Fuse. The web site is http://www.vianet.net.au/~redfed/ I am really mad at sony for not taking responsibility for their product failure. In case anyone needs any help let me know. Fixing this was not very easy, but worth the risk. Similar Products Used: NEC DVD drive on PC. |

Has soiled the SONY name for me. I fixed mine, it has been working for about 3-4 weeks now. Same C:13:00 problem as everyone else. I am not close to an expert, and no one should take my fix instructions as anything close to official, but I have posted a detail of how I fixed mine at: http://www.ben-morris.net/dvd/ |

Worked great when it worked.
Weakness:
Doesnt work after 16 months of normal use. Same Problems as every one else had the product 16 months then boom right in the middle of play I got the error c 13:00 and now all it shows is no disc error. I am or was a big fan of Sony having all there products and this is my only run in but this is a huge problem and I am very disappointed that Sony is not backing up there products. Weakness:
Very poor quality After purchasing this DVD player, we have used it for less than 50 times to play DVD and CD. Several days ago, this guy refused to play, and showed "No Disk". It is incredible considering we have owned it for less than 2 years and only played few disk. It is terrible product. I will stop buying any product from SONY, and recomment my friends not to purchase SONY product. |

Fine playback when it worked.
Weakness:
Crappy design, lousy customer support, died twice in a year. C:13 and No Disc errors around the first of the year (2002). Took it back to Best Buy and had it repaired for no charge. (The Best Buy folks were very helpful - no complaints with them.) Worked fine until May 2002 - same errors again. It's out of warranty now, so it goes straight to the dumpster. Won't ever buy another Sony product. Similar Products Used: Toshiba |

Sony famous brand if it is Made in Japan.
Weakness:
Sony ugly brand if it is Made in Malaysia or China. Like many people said with the problem on Sony dvd players, this dvd player crapped out on me within 1.5 year. FROM NOW ON, I WILL ONLY BUY SONY PRODUCTS THAT ARE MADE IN JAPAN SINCE IT HAS EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY. NO MORE MADE IN MALAYSIA OR CHINA SONY PRODUCTS IN MY HOUSE BECAUSE OF POOR QUALITY EVEN THOUGH SONY HAD E-MAILED ME THAT IT USES THE SAME STANDARD QUALITY AS THE JAPAN ONE. Yeah right, give me a break. Similar Products Used: None |

Picture was great while it lasted.
Weakness:
Doesn't work any more. OK so add me to the list of people who have a non-functioning DVD player thanks to C:13 and No Disc errors. Have tried Sony Hackers solution with no luck. What amazes me is that Sony obviously thinks that a structured recall and repair program is going to cost them more than the aggregate loss to their brand reputation if they do nothing. The multiplier effect of bad word-of-mouth from this problem is significant. Some manager at Sony is thinking with a short-term perspective and is making a big blunder. The truth is that Sony's customer service has been weak for a long time. Few people ever learned this fact because for years Sony made quality products - which meant most customers never had a need to experience the dark side of Sony. The brand name SONY. You expect quality and performance.
Weakness:
A very bad embedded hardware design that is obviously overheating causing the unit to malfuntion and cease operation. I received the Sony DVP-S560P in a package deal from Hilton Hotel Corporation's frequent guest awards program so I really did not buy this unit. I "paid" 140,000 points and received this unit and a receiver with six speakers. It was not a bad deal until I discovered Sony has a serious heat related issue with the electronics of this unit. Great unit when working
Weakness:
Appalling support for an obvious defect, shame on you Sony I was excited to find a DVD player with a decoder built in, as I've got amps and speakers ... and yes it took a dump. C1300 then the famous No Disc. It collected dust for a couple months, then I found this site! It was the F402 mentioned here. I'd never done anything like this and it was hairy but doable, and it worked: Take the cover off (5 screws); take the top of the disc transport off (2 screws); turn the unit over and release the door (sideways lever in a groove under the drive); remove the drive and its smaller circuit bd: 3 screws for the drive, 2 for the board NOTE once loose lift up square, it plugs into the main bd. Turn it over, release the little board and carefully pull out 3 tape connectors. F402 is on the backside of this board. Use a small soldering iron (5 - 10W), static strap on your wrist and a grounded iron, and do your best to jump it. Use a magnifying glass on a stand, it's tiny. I took the fuse off and jumped the gap with a strand from speaker wire, use a light touch and good luck! Good guide: http://www.circuittechctr.com/guides/guides.htm? Similar Products Used: None |
