Weakness:

Skipping on brand new disc's No mp3s Slow reaction times Button layout on remote

Sorry but I got to say what a piece of junk, it would be the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. Mine has skipped since day one, brand new disc's skip cd's and dvd's. Lost count of the money I have wasted on hired movies that I cant watch... The carosel is very noisey and slow, you push the eject button and then wait and wait and wait push the button again and wait... oh you want to eject it realises! I've had this thing sent back under warrentee twice and they say its perfectly OK(they(sony aust)admit something is wrong now the warrentee has run out...). No mp3 well thats just weak for a whitegoods brand at this price. Cant use a real subwoofer near this thing it cant handle the vibrations(cement floor!). No shuffle between music disc's, you can only shuffle on 1 disc at a time(pointless). Supacheap's $50 DVD out performs it in every aspect.(execpt picture quality/connections) The remote chews batterys and has a very limited range, because the batterys are down... Also like most sony gear the buttons are too small and too close together, I have worker sized hands. Obviously not made for large framed male's hands!

Strength:

Easy setup, great DVD playback, MP3 works good, quiet operation, 5 disk tray with the ability to switch disks while one is playing.

Weakness:

Don't know ... nothing yet!

I am writing about the DVP-NC615B. I picked it up this past weekend and have been amazed. The digital coax output sends nothing but love to my Denon AVR-1802 receiver. I'm using S-Video direct out to a projector and it looks great. For speakers I've got the Bose Acoutimass 6 series. I watched Gladiator this weekend and it was incredible. I thought the sword swung right through my room!! The MP3 playback is great, too. The on-screen menu is acceptable and easy to navigate. I am quite pleased with the product overall.

Strength:

5 DVD/CD/CDR/SACD/DVDR GREAT SOUND ON AUDIO

Weakness:

AS OF NOW NONE, HAVE NOT USED IT FOR DVD'S YET-HAVE HAD IT FOR A WEEK RIGHT NOW.

This review is for the Sony DVP-NC650V which I would guess is the newer model of DVP-NC600B. It is a 5 DVD/CD/CDR/SACD Changer. I just love it. I unfortunately have not had a chance to play DVD'S until I upgrade my tv in the next week or two. I can play cd's tho using a fiber optics monster cable and just love it. Got this on sale, when I checked this baby out in Jan 2002 it went for 349.99, then it was 249.99.

Strength:

in following order: (1) 5-disc convenience! (2) read VCD/CD-R (3) NOT sensitive to imperfect disks !!!!! (4) perfect Video (5) decent Audio (6) best value for $180 new! (7) super quiet operation.

Weakness:

remote should have buttons designated to Disk1, 2, 3, 4, 5, rather than simply 'skip' (otherwise well designed)

I've been playing all kinds of media on this player-- DVD, VCD, CD, CD-R and so far have no problem at all! The new "precision drive II' feature is specically designed to handle imperfect disks! And BNR will also reduce video skipping problems. It handles DVD video flawlessly. I connect it directly to TV via S-video. The audio is sent, via a digtial optical cable, to my Yamaha RX-V496 Receiver which decodes Dolby-Digital 5.1 and DTS -- try Eagles' "Hell Freeses Forever" DTS, it is Heaven! (you may want read reviews about this Receiver). I also tested its on board DAC against my Yamaha Receiver's DAC and , to my surprise, I found that SONY is better -- it has more accurate/cleaner mid range and smoother high's. I also have the same confusion like a reviewer here: the model is NC600B on the box but NC600 (without "B") on the player's faceplate. I guess this is NC600B model that listed on SONY's website since there is no NC600. I checked the GoodGuy's it is exactly the same situation.

Strength:

Very good on DVD material (picture/S-video, sound).

Weakness:

Annoying problem with simple CD playback. Cannot access menu/programming while a DVD, CD is playing.

I'm having terrible problems with regular CD playback. The unit apparently is EXTREMELY SENSITIVE to any irregularity on the disc (slight smudge, fingerprint, small scratch etc.) and simply won't play at all. The unit will completely power- off in the middle of a CD disc. No warning or seeming attempt to skip forward or anything, just turns off. This is very annoying and I'm going to have to return it for service. I've never had a problem with it playing DVD's at all. I have another single disc SONY DVD Player from 1999, a SONY Walkman CD Player and a Pioneer CD changer from 1990 that will play any disc that skips on the new DVP-NC600B. Anybody have any solutions besides trying to manage the horrendous service/repair inconvenience?

Strength:

Plays well on audio CDs

Weakness:

Remote, stuttering in various chapters and pauses during chapter change.

My Sony refuses to play smoothly through a vast majority of my DVDs. It will pause or jitter during playback. I have had problems where the player will not progress past a certain point in a chapter and will return to an earlier part of the disc. Maybe this is just a bad unit, too bad I am past my 30 days at Circuit City.

Strength:

Plays scratched DVD''s and CD''s flawlessly. Easy to set up and easy to use.

Weakness:

Remote can''t be used in the dark. Unit can''t be put into standby mode from the console.

I''ve had absolutely no problems with this DVD player. I bought it from Let''s Go Digital and the service was great. I''ve run about 100 CD''s and 15 DVD''s through it. Some were in pretty bad shape, but I''ve never had a single problem with any of them. It is slightly loud when changing discs, but it''s not as bad as some other carousels I''ve played with. It would be nice if the remote could be used in the dark, but that''s asking a bit much at this price I think. No, it doesn''t play MP3''s, but I can''t stand their poor sound quality anyway. Anyone looking for a 5 disc DVD/CD player should at least look into this unit; I couldn''t be happier with it.

Good picture, easy to use DVD player

Weakness:

No mp3 capability, loud when changing discs

My first DVD player. Great picture, much better than a VCR. I have not had any of the problems other reviewers have had. Seems to be a good, competent dvd player. Works well with CR-R and CD-RW.

5 Disc Carrosel

Weakness:

Stops in mid play

I too, like the previous reviewer, am new to DVDs so I have nothing also to compare this product to. AND like the previous reviewer, I encountered the same annoying problem with this unit where after so extended time playing a DVD or CD the unit would pause the play. Or in the case of a CD, would skip.
Unfortionatly for me the problem didn't surface until after my 30 day trial from Best Buy hence they wouldn't help at all. I sent it back to Sony only to have them report and fix another problem which was never evident, jittery picture. After receiving the unit back, the original problem still persisted as well as the new problem, jittery picture, which Sony fixed that was never orginally there. So now the unit is back at their shop. Now that I see that someone else has reported the problem, I can see it is a defect in either the desgn or manufacturing of this unit.

Other then this most pesky problem, the unit worked fine.
