Strength:
Easy to connect, easy to use, 5 disc capacity
Weakness:
Black case color, seams slightly expensive for the casual DVD viewer This was a gift from my sister in law. The only other DVD we had was in the PS2. I like the fact that it has a 5 disc capacity so that I can play multiple CD's on it if I want to. I was disappointed that it has a black case. I recenly purchased a new Sony 32" tv and it is silver. As I read through the manual I noticed that the unit has some features that more inexpensive units don't have. These might be important to a video enthusiast. If I had been purchasing a DVD player for myself I probably would purchased a less expensive one. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
5-disc, great for audio and dvd, black color, nice remote, easy to setup, dimmer, clear display, etc.
Weakness:
Coaxil out on audio cds (see below). I'm back to annouce what I feel is important. My other review had claimed that the player was not reading the first 2 seconds of audio cds. For this reason I returned the unit and got another one. This was only partially true. When playing cds through the coaxil output, the music DOES jump on around the 2-second mark. Strength:
Carousel, Instant Replay (really love that one); smooth play and forward and reverse
Weakness:
None The Instant Replay is excellent; you are INSTANTLY 10 seconds earlier in the disk (if you can find the button fast enough). Similar Products Used: The Sony 650, Panasonic RV21 (junk) |

Strength:
Carousel works like a regular cd player, fairly quiet, remote can control your TV.
Weakness:
No MP3 play, no zoom feature, no PAL compatibility. I actually bought this one after taking back the GE player which was quite sub-par in my opinion. The first SONY model had a problem where is wasn't reading the first 2 seconds of audio CDs. The music would literally jump start from the 2-second mark and that was unacceptable. That was the first thing to test since I took it back and got another one and the new player seems to work just fine. Similar Products Used: GE 3-disc changer, SONY 5-disc CD-Player. |

Strength:
Good list of features. 5 disk carousel. Relatively inexspensive.
Weakness:
DVD playback freezes and then jumps to another scene or just freezes and the play, ff, rew does not work. I am new to the DVD world so I do not have any other DVD unit to compare to this unit. The unit was a gift. The unit is exhibiting a very annoying probled. It freezes during playback and either stays stuck on that frame or jumps to another scene which could be anywhere on the disk. We watched Remember the Titans (brand new DVD) and Pearl Harbor (rented). Both disks exhibited this freezing/ jump to another scene problem. Thinking that this was an isolated problem with the unit, we returned the unit and the vendor readily handed us a new unit. Last night while watching Lara Croft this unit exhibited the same problem. I took the disk out (after 1/2 hour of trying to get past the frozen frame) cleaned it and it continued to work. When a frame freezes and you go back in the movie to the scenes prior to the frame where it freezes it seems to work right up to the same frame and freezes in the exact same place. Does any one have any thoughts before I return this unit. Is there another unit with the carousel feature that I should consider My model does not say DVP-NC600B. It is missing the "B" designation. Is my model an older model. Has anyone else experienced this problem. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. E-mail me with your thoughts at mhealym3@aol.com Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Quiet compared to other Sony players
Weakness:
MP3 decoding would be nice Picked this player up to replace a player Toshiba sent us to make up for a firmware upgrade gone horribly wrong. Combined with the Yamaha 5280 Receiver, this player really does a nice job at making home theatre fun. We've probably run about 100 DVDs through it and at least 25 different CDRs without a hitch. The only problem we encountered was the Holy Grail subtitle problem, but that's a disc problem from CTHE and not the player. Not much experience with the remote, since we use the RVM2100, but it looks similar to the past Sony remotes, and they are well balanced and easy to use. No problems to report from this purchase.
