I've owned the 2108 for 2 months, and have experienced no drop outs. The video and audio are excellent. Well worth the price. I have a Sony receiver and a Denon Dolby Digital decoder. I suggest before you bash this player you check and make sure you have a good cable for the coaxial output, and if your using toslink, lose it quick. IMHO, audio through toslink bites. I can only give it 4 stars, as 5 stars are reserved for the combo and processor onboard players. |

I spoke with the Vice President of Customer Support at Toshiba America last week. He explained that Toshiba engineered the SD-2108 to industry DVD standards. He said that the problem is that the DVD manufacturers are not following starndards. Certain DVD's manafest functional anomolies differently on different brands of DVD players, but he assured me that Sony and Panasonic have experienced similar problems. Toshiba is offering a code upgrade to SD-2108 units as a workaround to loose DVD manufacturing standards. Toshiba maintains that there is nothing buggy or deffective about the DVD player. |

Got one of the last two units from OneCall for $343. Set-up with Coax and S-Video to HK AVR-65. Picture is gorgeous! No audio dropouts. I have a GE31" Six year old TV purchased for $529 then. It is suprising first of all that the TV still works. But, even more suprising is the clarity. Absolutely gorgeous! Really very difficult to justify a couple $K for new Sony WEGA or couple $K + for rear projection. DTS works well too. Although I am fortunate enough to have five Overtures with built-in powered subwoofers. DTS really knows how to spread the effects around. And for all you'z guy'z who say'z that surrounds are not that important - you are dead wrong! My set-up with DTS has proven without a shadow of a doubt that full-range large (not neccesarily large in size, but large air-movers) are required in the rear for full surround effect. With regard to a big separate subwoofer: "What is the point of having every footstep of Godzilla coming from one speaker (the sub)" Get with the program and spread out the low frequency! Go DTS! |

Check out Jims player, this thing seems to have some problems. I haven't given it enough time to be to critical, but basically it looks like crap, it's got this wierd wavy kind of noise at the bottom of the screen, mostly on Anamorphic DVDs which tells me it's probably the downconversion. I also noticed a bit of pixelization on certain Anamorphic conversions. |

This player has issues! My main problem is a light gray ‘Fogging’ at the bottom of the screen. It looks like subtitles are about to pop up. The problem is most visible on anamorphic discs, and only occurs when using the SVHS jack. If I turn the brightness way down on the TV, you don’t notice it; but that’s a lame work around. |

I tried to play the "Independance day" on this machine but it can't even reconize the disk I put in is a DVD. I don't know if it is the defect of the machine or it is because of the new feature they put in to this DVD. This is very strange becaue all my friends the are able to watch this DVD film with no problem at all. My friends are using some other brand of DVD play! |
