Strength:

Dual disc trays,HDCD,Optical and Coaxial digital outs excellent downconversion for 4:3 Televisions

Weakness:

None for this price range

First of all i felt my first dvd player(sd-2109) was a fantastic player and for the money i paid for that unit it stood with some of the best dvd players around. I was trying to figure out what wld be a good upgrade i saw the 2200 and fell in love all over again. Price and Features make this player a terrific choice for real world enthusiast. I watched Sleepy Hollow on this player and was blown away by the picture and sound quality. Why anyone wld want to pay more than 250.00 for a dvd player when this toshiba is on the shelves is beyond me..

Strength:

DD Decoder, HDCD, 4-level zoom

Weakness:

Remote isn't perfect, that's about it

I've been through over 15 movies so far without the slightest little glitch or imperfection, what a great player. Perfect picture and sound, only progressive-scan can look better (it will be a few years before I get a progressive-scan TV). The remote is better than most, but it could be improved. I could give or take the dual disc tray, but if you rent two movies you can put them both in and not have to get up, so it has a purpose. Overall, for less than $400 ($245.99 at supremevideo.net) I guarantee there is no better player.

Strength:

Built in dolby digital decoder; endless "goodies"

Weakness:

Remote is not backlit

This dvd player is tight. Amazing sound, amazing picture, and most importantly, amazing value.

I got it at Egghead Auctions brand new for 239.99 shipped. Haven't been able to stop watching it since I got it.

I have one of those 5.1 ready Aiwa theater systems so the decoder on this unit is definately necessary. Dolby Digital is amazing, miles ahead of Pro Logic. The split surrounds and added bass make action movies twice as exciting and horror movies twice as scary. The "goodies" on this player are awesome and abundant....black level expansion, analog stick on the remote, chapter memory, dual disc capasity, speaker test tones, time select, 3x zoom, and many many more. Sure, these extras are not absolutely needed all the time, but it great to know you have them and they are fun to play around with.

Toshiba is still the leader when it comes to dvd.

Strength:

Great audio & video output. Well thought out remote.

Weakness:

Lack of an open/close button on the remote, but then again how important is it to open the tray from seven feet away!

This is a full featured player, with a multiple DVD tray. It is very quite; when I load a DVD and sit back, I can not tell that the unit is on, especially with the display dimmed entirely. Only the telltale read power light and DVD disc light indicate that the unit is on and engaged. Really, I can not find a fault. Video quality is exceptional, and is audio. It played each of my rental DVD's flawlessly.

I bought my player on mercata.com, and only payed $237.00, with free shipping. The same unit sells at the local Best Buy for $298.00, less the seven percent local sales tax.

Believe the positive reviews on this machine; it is the one to get!

Strength:

Good value, component output, dual trays, quiet, angle icon appears on screen when available.

Weakness:

No dual tray shuffle, remote is weak, manual is in twenty languages - why?

I bought this dvd player when I returned the Sony because it started turning itself off during playback randomly - nice job Sony. Movies look fine, but not as crisp as the Sony. It was also about $100 cheaper, which makes it a great bargain. The menus are much more simplified than the Sony. The remote is no big deal, my Sony AV2000 easily learned all functions.

I wouldn't call this a great DVD player, but an excellent value.

Strength:

Awsome picture quality, sound and features.

Weakness:

Could have done better on the remote, but even that is very good.

After reading all the reviews and comparing all the features I decided to give the ToshibaSD2200 a go. Man is this unit nice. The picture quality is the best I have seen for this price range and even more expensive units. Sound quality is outstanding on both HT and Audio CD's. I am very pleased. You can't go wrong with this one!!!!!

Strength:

DD onboard decoder, dual tray, HDCD decoding, RELIABLE.

Weakness:

At this price, none.

A caveat before I begin. When I started looking for a DVD player, I looked for one that was, most of all, RELIABLE, and also with basic features, such as DD and DTS. I figured with DVD technology still evolving it would be idiocy to spend alot (a relative term) of money on a DVD player when I'm going to upgrade fairly soon anyway. So my review is not in the context of the entire spectrum of DVD players, but certainly in the context of all other players under $400.
I did about thirty hours of homework on this and other sites before I set foot in a store to audition DVD's. Incidentally, I called Toshiba, and they told me the SD-2200 is identical to the SD-3109, but has higher resolution (and the SD-1200 is identical to the SD-2109 but with higher resolution.)
I feel the 2200 is a tremendous value; the sound exceeds that of my Philips CD player on music CD's, and the sound on movies is just phenomenal. I don't have an HDTV, so it's really not fair to comment on the video, though I will note that the quasi-animated menus of some movies is really neat.
Maybe I'm not picky enough on remotes, but I feel the remote is fine.
For what I wanted in a DVD, this player is absolutely perfect. Five stars across the board.

Say goodbye to your VHS collection. This is a great machine. Using the S-Video output really brings my 50" Mitsubihi to life. The sound is excellent! I highly recommend to anyone that's an Eagles fan "Hell Freezes Over".

Could go on and on about this wonderful product. It has far surpassed my expectations. On the objective side of things - getting used to the widescreen format is somewhat of an adjustment (only with some DVD movies) others give viewer a choice of 2 formats wide & full screen. Go see for yourself!

This is for TK who had the dual layer cd problem with the Matrix. You had a problem with a machine, it is only with your machine. This disc plays dual layer dics almost as well as my sony..I have a collection of over 100 DVD's and all work fine. Don't judge a unit based on a bad experience they would have fixed it...Even Mercedes can make a bad car every now and then. This is the best machine at the price on the market!

Strength:

component outputs are definetly a good thing, zoom is a great feature. Itd be hard to beat for the price.

Weakness:

I have to agree with the majority here, the remote could use some work... I keep hitting stop accidentally when I want to hit pause. And it definetly would be nice to be able to open the tray from the remote, that way by the time you get over to the player with a different dvd you're ready to throw it right in. Also the zoom button is far away from the return button (unzoom) which is kinda inconvienient, but zoom cycles through back to no zoom so its not that big of a deal. These are little imperfections and shouldnt stop anyone from buying the player.

So far Ive watched about 10 dvds on this player and all has been good.(got it from mercata for a little under 237 after using 50 or so mercata dollars. The msrp is 399.99 according to mercata but it can be found for pretty cheap...buy.com for instance has it regular priced 249.99) No skipping or noticable flaws. The only dvd that I've seen any 'noise' in was interview with the vampire, but thats the dvd and not the player. The Matrix looked and sounded great and the toshiba had no problems playing it whatsoever (I noticed someone else had a problem playing the matrix, id be willing to bet it was that particular dvd. When I watched it there was no chapter skipping at all. There is a slight pause right when they go into the matrix to see the oracle but I beleive that is because of the layer transition.) The display on the front of the physical player is descent and I can clearly see it on both bright and dim from accross the room. If you turn the power off while watching the dvd it does resume from where you were, but it is rather annoying not being able to bookmark where you were. Ive had to sit there trying to find the chapter/time i was at and usually end up watching scenes ive already watched.
