Strength:

Feature packed player, good video, great sound.

Weakness:

Nothing worth complaining about

This is a great machine which does more than you could ask at it's price. I've watched a bunch of movies including some of the "problem" DVD's such as The Matrix and I have had no problems at all.
I am happy with the video (S-Video to Sony Trinitron) and I really like the zoom feature. The only problem is I can't seem to get the ZOOM1 label off of the screen, but I think that's something I'm doing as noone has mentioned it.
The thing I love most is the Audio. It is Superb. I have a big sub and it just moves the room (and my neighbors) more than I've ever heard. The vocals are also very clear, I love it.
There are a great deal of nice features on this player and so far it seems to be a real solid player. I would have to recommend it. You can get some good deals online.

Strength:

Good color saturation. Excellent picture clarity. Great features for the price.

Weakness:

Lightweight construction. Remote is not lit. Dual tray adds little benefit.

This is my first step up from VCR. What a step! I've never seen anything this good on TV! I can't say that I compared it to much else. It had all the features I wanted at an affordable price.

The picture is saturated with colors. It is very detailed. DVD represents a major jump from VCR.

I am not a videophile, but I know what I like when I see it. I haven't really been able to spot flaws with the picture.

Nothing is perfect. The weaknesses sited above would normally keep me from giving a 5 star review. 4.5 would be more appropriate. Since I have to chose, and I'm so happy with it, I'll have to go to the 5! I highly recommend this player.

Other features which are fun: Zoom, ff with no picture disturbances (as VCR), and enhanced two channel sound (for those of us who are not 5.1 yet).

Strength:

Twin Trays, Dolby Digital, OK Remote

Weakness:

Won't play CDR's

I really like this. It's got everything a normal human being needs, plus the twin trays for convenience! A very stable reference machine with few flaws.

Strength:

dual dvd trays, component video, dolby digital built in

Weakness:

poor remote control, lack of remote control features

This is a great dvd player for home use- it has two dvd trays so you can switch back and forth between dvd's, it has build in dolby digital and component video outputs. The only bad feature is the truly average looking and performing remote control supplied with the unit.
I've done a lot of research on dvd players and for the money this is one of the best out there in terms of quality and features

So far excellent; occasional worrying glitches, but nothing
serious. I run the digital out through an AMC DAC, and it makes an excellent transport as well

Great machine! The only weaknesses are lack of jog shuttle and backlighting on the remote and inability to play CD-Rs. Hidden feature: plays PAL vcds on NTSC TV set without additional equipment.

Strength:

HDCD

Weakness:

Construction a little weak

How can you go wrong with this unit for $300? For my money, I could not find a better deal! No problems at all with any movies played so far (20+). I agree with earlier reviews to avoid refurbs (UBID, eBay, etc...) as this equipment is much more susceptible to failure, thus bringing warranty and service issues to the forefront. If you are a serious videophile, why are you looking at reviews on this product? If you are an audio enthusiast like me, buying simply for the added clarity and audio quality, get out the wallet and feel comfortable with this product.

Strength:

dolby digital, DTS, HDCD, dual tray, component video

Weakness:

clumsy remote, inferior laser mech

had this unit for 11 months, working beautifully, enjoying the dual trays, dolby digital, DTS, HDCD and component video outputs, then discs started failing.

had it serviced which resulted in replacement of the laser mech, $135 just for the part!! good thing i bought it from netmarket which provides free 2 year extended warranties. i don't use it now since getting the jvc 523gd.

4 stars for value, 2 stars overall due to common problem with cheap, faulty laser mech.
