Strength:

Great picture. Very good sound quality. Easy set-up.

Weakness:

Random function on CD changer works poorly. Even with five CDs in the player, it has repeated a song after a half-dozen songs.

Except for the lame random function for CDs, I'm very happy with the product. It's my first DVD player, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I love the picture quality. For other novices, be aware that it comes only with analog cables. Digital cable is extra.

I was also very happy with Wild West, with which I did business for the first time. Delivery was free, price was right, and it actually came more quickly than they promised.

This is an update on my player. It seems that it has decided to quit on me. At first it started as just a little bit of pixellation, but eventually it would not load DVDs at all (DVDs were fine as they worked on my DVD-ROM on my PC). Audio CD playback also began to suffer as the player got older. It would skip tracks or stop playing and say "Insert Disc" on brand new CDs that were store bought (not CDr). I don't know if it was a fluke or not, but death after only 6 months of use is not a good thing in my book. I have sent the player back to Toshiba and will reserve judgement until I hear back from them, but for now I say beware.

Strength:

Clear picture, great remote, ability to shuffle (most
)cd's

Weakness:

Automatic play when turned on is annoying, won't play cd-r
s, has gotten "stuck" during shuffle on one of my CD's

I think the MSRP is listed too high for this unit on this review board. I'm pretty sure I paid close to MSRP--bought it at a local audio shop with no discount (but I got a major discount on an RX-V 2095 as part of my purchase--($600 for the unit that listed last year at $1599, due to the replacement model due out soon).
I am using the 3205 for CD's as well as DVD's and I think the sound is great. I have had a problem during the shuffle when it tries to select a song from David Wilcox's East Ashville Hardware (great CD, if anyone likes a James Taylor-type sound with thought-provoking lyrics and edgy humor). Anyway, the player just gets "stuck" and does nothing. So, I had to take this CD out of the shuffle. But it does fine if I just want to play the CD straight through.
The remote is easy to use.
I have read that the next step up, the 4205, will play cdr's--it was $50 more at the place I bought this one. I probably should have gotten it but I was trying to keep costs down, since I also purchased speakers, receiver, and TV at the same time. All I had was a boom box and a 19 inch TV. Now I am in audio heaven, as are my friends who come to visit...
The auto play can be annoying. But I just hit stop and then select the cd I want or open the tray and change them out.
Overall, I am very happy with this DVD Player.

Strength:

good sound and video image

Weakness:

Pure Lemon

Player is like new with very little casual use (no more than 25 movies watched on it) and it already broke down. Dispite the casual use, it is already out of warranty (1 year for parts and 90 days for labor) and when I took it to an authorized repair shop the estimate I was given to fix it was $230. Needless to say I declined to fix it and opted to start looking for something other than TOSHIBA -of course-. I was told that the laser p/u assy was bad and needed to be replaced.
End of story NO MORE TOSHIBA Lemons FOR ME.

Strength:

All the outputs you could ever need, 5 disc swapping and the great price from ebay

Weakness:

No Dolby Prologic signal, intermitant problems.

I guess so far im lucky by the looks of the other reviews in here. I won mine from ebay for Christmas last year for a super low price and im very happy I got it.

The only problems so far is as follows...
On two occasions, the player would not open to change disc. Not sure what happened to cause it. I pressed power off and on and all was ok again.
The player isnt putting out Dolby Prologic even after I have correctly set it up as the manual states. My reciever , a Pioneer VSX-D702s ,the Dolby PL works with a VHS vcr, but not this player.?
Also sometimes the tray closes right after I press open. The display says "opening" but its closed. I press open again and everything is fine again. Who knows? But thats it as far as problems. It does work and im very happy with it.

I havent had the chance to hear it play movies in Dolby Digital or DTS yet because of the Pioneer I have doesnt support it. I have ordered a Outlaw Audio 1050 5.1 reciever that should be here on Monday. Then I will finally get to hear what it all sounds like The way a DVD should be heard. I hope so.

I recommend this player, but make sure you buy an extended warranty just incase. Anything that has a lot of moving parts like a CD changer or camcorder is more prone to break in the long run than something that has only one moving part like a reciever's volume control.

Strength:

Great picture

Weakness:

Unreliable

I bought it 12/31/00 et by 6/01 it stopped working. It would not turn on et it had 3 discs in it.At first I was told it would be under warranty but it ended up costing me $100. They covered the parts which were $211 for a laser pick up.One month later it broke again. This time all it would do was read no disc.I took it back et wanted it checked out to see if it was the same problem et if not I did want to get it fixed. At first I was told if it was sent in it would have to be fixed regardless of what I wanted. The store manager did step in and it was sent off to be checked as I had requested.I have spent $11,500 at HH Greg so I would not have been a happy camper if they had not done as I asked.I didn't buy the extended warranty so it's my fault and I am paying the consequences for it.I have hot heard from HH Greg as of yet but either way I will never buy Toshiba again.

Strength:

5 disc changer. Not too many DVD's offer optical, component, AND 5.1 for Digital Surround output. Dolby decoder built in. Great picture. Fast disc changer. I use as my CD player and it sounds great.

Weakness:

won't play most CDr's that Ive tried, I went and bought the CompUSA ones recommended below and they still odn't work!!!
I use a HP 8200 burner...
Random play function sucks..plays the same songs over and over.
Auto play I a pain too...plays whatever is on as soon as you turn it on.

I think I'm returning it...I'm bummed.
It looks, sounds and plays great but I burn CD's and it won't play them!!! 1 of 10 have worked.
A reall bummer because there are some great aspects to this machine.

Strength:

Built in Digital Decoder,On screen menu, nice remote, price, zoom.

Weakness:

Doesn't play CDR's like it's sibling(4205)

I was very pleased the first time I watched a DVD on this player. The on screen menu and remote are very easy to use. The sound and Picture quality are both superior to my old RCA. I would highly recommend this 5 disc changer to anyone a do it all DVD player. I looked at both the Sony 660 and the Onkyo Dvc 501 and 601 before purchasing this Toshiba. The Sony lacked a built in Digital decoder and the zoom feature. The Onkyo is a good player but doesn't have a entire 5-6 random shuffle feature when playing cd's. This Toshiba has all those features and it cost's less than either of the two. This player flat out does everything I would want it do with the exception of playing CDR's, but hey neither did the Sony or Onkyo play CDR's. So this made my decision easy, I believe this is best DVD changer for the money.
