    Strength:

    picture, and sound when working

    Weakness:

slow, slow, slow and bad remote, and cheap and built, did i say cheaply

OK, I purchased this Toshiba DVD SD-4109x and was very happy with it from the start. But this piece of junk started to tell me some bad times were in order. Sometimes this piece of crap would just keep move from disc to another without reading if they're were dvd's or cd's. It cannot read between them. Then it would just not work at all. It would say insert disc, when the damn machine was fully loaded.

I emailed toshiba, and their response to me was unplug it for 15 minutes and then restart it. Hey it worked for a few weeks and then the Toshiba SD-4109x said to me hell no I will not play any dvd's or cd's.

I am packing this piece of junk and sending to their service center. I am going to find another model. Sony or Onkyo.
I am scared of Onkyo cuz they made this model for Toshiba.
I hope their dvd 601 has all the kinks out, and it works fine.

If anyone else has own the Toshiba 4109x and has the same problems I have, I would love to hear from you, telling what they, being Toshiba did for you. This is a real clunker.

    Strength:

Excellent picture and sound, great for standard CDs

    Weakness:

A little slow (this does not affect its wonderful audio/video performance), remote has no input lock (too easy to accidentally press buttons)

Wonderful overall performance. DVDs look terrific, even on a standard 27" TV. CDs sound wonderful, though this is more a function of the receiver and speakers being used.

With regard to the remote, it's too easy to accidentally press, say, the "disc 6" button in the midst of viewing DVD "disc 1". This causes the user to have to press "disc 1" again, wait for the disc to load, then run through the menu and find the chapter the user was watching in order to get back to where the DVD was last.

Also, this player does not play CD-r's. Not the end of the world, but it WOULD be nice.

If you have even the least bit of patience, though, I HIGHLY recommend this unit, as it has been great for me. I've had no repair issues, and no major complaints.

    Strength:

zoom, fractional slow motion in forward and rewind, up to 30X FF and rewind, ability to manipulate view.

    Weakness:

slow disc change, powers off after 10 minutes

This thing has a great picture and sound, and a lot of really cool functions. I like zoom, and the turbo fast forward and rewind, and the ability to edit. I don't like the slow changing of the discs, the fact that it can't play CD-R's, and it powers down if you stop a movie for more than ten minutes. All in all I give it two thumbs up. Mine was a gift, but these days you can get it for $429, and thats a bargain for the features this thing has. Don't bother with the Sony, they are as overpriced as everything else sony makes.

    Strength:

hdcd, dts, 6 disc, picture and audio

    Weakness:

hard to see numbers on tray

great picture, great audio. i like the hdcd feature, i find it does sound a little better on dvds. it doesnt have cd shuffle, which does suck, but i'm rating as a dvd player so that doesnt matter here. dts version of svg pvt ryan sounds fantastic. i plan on looking into a high quality marantz dvd player, so maybe later i'll have a diff. opinion of this set, but for now and for the price, this set is fine.
