Ok, so I am 16 years old, but that doesnt mean I don't know anything about audio. My dad has been in the music buisness for years and I have been to countless concerts. Almost every concert I have been to my dad explained the audio system to me and how it works, so I know quite a bit about audio. So this system for me is like a baby in a candy store. I bought it for 10$ at a garage sail. I brought it home and plugged it in and the CD player didn't play CD's, but that didnt stop me from using it. I plugged it into my computer and it was marvolous. I LOVE THIS SYSTEM! This is by far the best $10 I spent on a audio system. Many of you probably won't be able to get this for $10, but if I knew how good this system was and went to a store to buy it I would spend at least $1000 on it. It is an awesome sound system. Hope you like my review.

Strength:

Powerful Bass - Aint no other system that can match the bass. LOUD LOADS OF POWER....

Weakness:

The cd player plays up now and then....... just use the aux inputs and youre sweet azzzzz. The aiwa does distort if you have the bass up too much but thats where you use the equaliser functions.

I bought a nsx 999 back in 1996, 12 yrs later its still the system i recommend if you want powerful bass and quality sound. For a mini system it really is kick ass and puts all other mini systems to shame. Yes ive had the problems with the cd player skipping etc, but the aux inputs has backed this system up so its also part of my computer, playing mp3, movies etc thru it, and it works perfectly fine. Since then i have not come across any other mini system which can match the aiwa nsx 999. Today i now have two systems.... the aiwa nsx 999 and the aiwa nsx 999 mII both are hooked up to my comp and i tell you it rattles windows and annoys old grannys.

Sony - i also have a sony system this cant even match my aiwa. Its loud and keeps going louder as u put up the volume and does not distort.

Strength:

Big sound, haven't heard many since that can compare. EQ, DSP, BBE T-Bass Speakers look pretty cool with grills off, and seem to be constructed rather well for this type of system Remote controls all the functions, with very good range.

Weakness:

CD player sometimes won't change to selected CD CD drawer sometimes refuses to open

I bought this unit as as open box item. I really haven't had any major problems in the 7 years I have had it. Once in a while it won't switch to the CD that I want to listen to. I usually turn it off for a minute or so and this seems to resolve the issue. The only other thing is the CD drawer sometimes needs to be coaxed to open, but only rarely. Haven't had any tracking or dimming display problems as of yet. Right now, it serves me in my basement while working out or on freelance projects. I have to admit, at a quarter of the way up, it sounds pretty darn good. If you go much louder than that, the speakers tend to distort. I'm sure that has as much to do with the quality of the amps as the speakers. The speakers by themselves do an excellent job producing bass. The one thing I've noticed, is that the T-Bass tends to distort and muddy the bass when the volume gets louder, while the same can be said of the BBE feature regarding treble. I recently hooked it up to a small T.V. with my old DVD player, and it does a very acceptable job, with decent impact and intelligible voice reproduction. This product is a decidedly mid-fi system, and based on that, I don't have any complaints at all.

See Murphy's Law about what can go wrong will go wrong

What can I say about this compact hunk of junk that I own? One thing that comes to mind is (What a dumb***" for buying it). I returned for repairs just a couple of months from the purchase date (it was still under warranty) and the system worked fine for a couple of more months afterwards before it went out again (Problems were with the CD Player). Didn't realize that there was a wide spread of problems with the units from the mid 90's to late 90's until I read about the Lawsuit that was in progress. Oh yeah I was never informed about it till I read it on the web but some lawyers got wind of it way before that happened and thought it would be a good way to make lots of money for themselves while people like myself were stuck with the hunk of junk. Never trust in anything that has the Logo "Aiwa" on it. Don't be a "dumb***" customer like myself along with thousands and thousands of others.

I bought my system in 1996, and didn't have any problems with it until mid 2002. I had the same problems as everyone else, CD tracking and skipping, but I just opened it up and cleaned the lense and dusted using compressed air and it seems to be working again. LCD is still dim though. For everyone who has had these problems, check out this site for possible settlement: http://www.minisystemsettlement.com/index.php3

Strength:

Fills our warehouse with very good quality sound. Looks great ( I've got the black one)

Weakness:

All internal parts are junk!!!

This was the best looking and sounding unit on the shelf at BB when I bought it. 3 months later the CD was skipping. When I took it back for repair, they just gave me a new one. While I was getting my new one, I noticed 6 identical units on the return shelf behind the counter. I liked the sound enough to take another chance, and have forever regretted it. CD unreliable at best. Tape decks are junk. Push the tuner button and the video/aux mode fires up. If not for the aux inputs this would be in the dumpster, but sounds great with TV or external drives plugged into the back. I will never buy this brand again.

Strength:

Features, control unit, sound (with low power)

Weakness:

sound loudly (only 14cm bass) tape sound.

Sok a csatlakozási lehetoség, (ezen speciálisan van line out kimenet, mely késobb lett rátéve). A hang elég jó de a magnó résznél nagyon tompa. Itt a fejállítás sem segített, másik készülék hanghoz (Technics deck) vagyok szokva. A CD-vel mnem volt probléma még.

Strength:

very good graphic display when it works, reasonable sound if you dont want to play things too loud.

Weakness:

too many to mention

Just to get out of the rain one day, I ended up in Dixons and decided to check out the stereos. After much deliberation I decided to purchase the Aiwa NSX 999. I MUST HAVE BEEN MAD! Although it looked good with its wonderful bouncy lights and sleek exterior, I had nothing but trouble with it. It broke 4 days after I took it home; pushed the button to turn it on and nothing happened. The repair man arrived after 2 days waiting and said there was nothing wrong with it! The CD player packed up altogether witin 6 months and I had to have the whole laser part replaced; this lasted just over 18 months and when the repair man came, he did his diagnostics and said he couldnt find a fault. He put everything back together and even before he had left my flat I told him it now wasnt working at all - amazingly it needed ANOTHER laser replacement even though he hadnt noticed this 10 minutes earlier. To cap it all, the whole thing decided to give up just 2 DAYS after my 5 year warranty ran out. In all I had to have the repair man out 7 (seven) times. Aiwa is NOT worth the money. Dont buy this or any other product. In fact, dig a very deep hole and throw all your money into it and save yourself the time of going to the shops!

I''ve had this product since 1996 without any issues!! Everything still works and I''ve been very happy with the system. Sounds like too many people have had multiple problems so best guess is I''ve been very lucky. Gee, that''s a first!!
