Strength:

Eliminates any voltage irregularities or noise

Weakness:

needs a 90 degree wall plug, meter light cannot be turned off

Built my house in 1999. Had the builder put in a "home run" line from the fuse box to one outlet in the media room. NOTHING else is on this line. I used a surge protector, and connected all my audio and video to this outlet. Still, when the fridge kicked on or the A/C ran, I could see it interfere with the TV and heard occasional pops.

Added the HTS3500 shortly thereafter and have enjoyed beautiful audio and video ever since. I'm a pretty serious listener, and I doubt anyone can actually perceive any difference in 99.9% of the audio media out there simply by using a power conditioner at any price, but the HTS3500 definately improves the power reaching your equipment.

Strength:

flexibility, nice looking, AC or 12v triggering, video performance

Weakness:

Audio performance, back panel outlets

Wanted to love this unit but couldn't.

VIDEO:
Great in cleaning up cable signals as advertised.

AUDIO:
As covered in previous reviews, I found [IN MY SYSTEM] that this unit had a negative impact on sound. Maybe its preference...I dunno, but I couldn't live with it. This unit most definately has an effect and it was not slight when comparing to straight AC off the wall. Some describe the effect as a "blacker" background, resulting in more pronounced audio and hi-lited detail. Others describe the effect as a "veil" that shrouds their soundstage and diminishes the "ambience" of their system. My experience was the latter. Your mileage (and opinion) will inevitably vary.

OTHER FEATURES:
12v and AC triggering was cool, but 12v didn't work with my preamp [big downer!]. Backlit voltage meter was pretty but otherwise added nothing. I found the AC outlets on the back to be very stiff to plug into and pull out of, at times worrying that I would bend the [thin] back panel.

OTHER BEEFS:
Why does this unit have no UL listing? Anybody else find that unsettling?

CUSTOMER SERVICE:
My manual came with missing pages. I emailed monster twice and got no reply. Makes you wonder how you'd be treated if you actually had to make a claim, no?!?

IN THE END...
I tried and tried to adjust to this unit for about three weeks before throwing in the towel and selling it on ebay. If you want great a great video clean-up and don't care so much about audio, this could be your deal...but you can get equally good results for less $. This unit is certainly feature-laden, but if you buy for total (A/V) performance and bang for the $$, look elsewhere.

Strength:

It's CHEAP

Weakness:

doesnt really do anything...made my system sound bright!

The upgrade from the 3000 to the 3500 was minor.I noticed a slight difference in soundstage, the toning down of brightness, and blackness of the picture. However,if you want to see some real gains. Get Ticed! Power block 3 and Power enhancer will take your system to the final frontier. I was a non-believer of line conditioning before i got ticed. In a nut shell: GET TICED!

Strength:

Ok for bright sounding systems

Weakness:

softens/reduces musical detail

Thought I would give a try because of Audiophile review, and
general positive comments here. I bought from
www.globe-mart.com for only $275 so what the hell, give it a shot. After careful aditioning I sent unit back for refund. I tried passing amp/cdp both through and also just
cdp but no combination sounded better than my American Power
Conversion network grade surge-arrest strip.

Several people here commented that it removed "digital" edge, I would say it removed fine musical detailing, and gave softer sound. If you have bright system this may be
improvement for you.......but you lose clarity. I have no
idea if this works better for video/TV but for audio I found no improvement, and actually preferred sound without.

My system:
Musical Fidelity X-Ray cdp
Cardas Cross .5m interconnect
Musical Fidelity A3 integrated amp
AQ Argent 6ft speaker cables
Spendor SP1 speakers, 3-way British design

Strength:

better bass, open soundstage and quiter background

Weakness:

no switch off on voltmeter

I bought the PM 3500 after reading the review of the 2000 model, and in my system (Martin Logan aerius, C-J Premier 11, AR LS7, VPI HW19 MKIV,Revox B77, Revox A700, Nak ZX7,Proceed CDP ) it improved significantly mainly the bass, like ading an octave lower! as well as overal "black background". The music was emerging more relaxed, more spatial-life-like apearence than with the idos packII used previously.I did not noticed any of the problems encountered by the other reviewers, but I suspect that the unit is component sensitive and in my opinion it should not be, or the ones with problems have been defective from the start.I am curious about opinions from people with similar systems like mine what their experience was with this product.

Strength:

Logical design, well built, reasonable price, life time warranty & $100,000 equipment damage insurance.

Weakness:

Fixed outlet set up w/o any programability, dimmer switch is too unlinear. Very bright LEDs, Monster should offer a better print for the manual.

I was very anxious to receive this unit, because of what I have read, so many conflicting reviews, about this unit. My choice was based on excellent review by Steve Guttenberg who really praised the performance of this unit even over Model 5000. After set up, my first impression of sound quality of my good electronics was that how crisper my audio sound. That was contrary to what I have read from folks who used and returned the unit. OOPS!!? Did not know what to think of it. In fact, I bought this with lots of hesitations due to discrepancies users wrote about it. After hours of two channel and multi-channel listening, my founding were very encouraging. In my system, the major improvements, while subtle, but audible, were basically in the bass and low midrange. Playing Titanic sound track was a solid proof to me that this Monster line conditioner has indeed refined the overall character of my audio system. I was able to detect vividly, a better pitch definition of mid to upper bass and more extension on the very bottom. On the upper side, music just sounded better in the sense that instruments sound without being confused, apart from each other and with less edginess. Later, I had to pull my big NHTs out a few inches to calm the base, and that resulted in a better integration of the base and upper drivers and even more extension in the extreme low. In fact, my Radio Shack meter confirmed better base response from previous set up without this Monster. Prior to this unit I had the Monster 1000, and 2000 strips which indeed are good products as well. Am I dreaming or too optimistic about my purchase?? Of course not. All my findings confirms what Guttenberg reported as well. I just wish there was another $300 investment-improvemet that I could take advantage of to upgrade my audio equipment sound quality so immensely.

Strength:

Cleans up the AC like is should. Clearer picture, better sound, etc...

Weakness:

Panel where outlets are could be supported better. Feels flimsy...

I picked this up mostly to help with AC spikes that I get when the funace kicks on. Everytime is turns on I get noise in the speakers and some distortion in the video.

Since I added the 3500, I no longer notice when the funace kicks on. Instead I get a very clean sound and no problems in the video.

I've also noticed that the picture looks better. The colors seem better. A number of people have asked if I had the set adjusted since the last time they saw it.

The sound also seems better but I can't really hear much difference. If anything I think that there is just no noise in the sound. It sounds a little fuller and clean.

Anyway, this did what I wanted and more. I also feel a little better with having more protection on my investement. If you're spending thousands on a HT why not spend a few hundred in providing a clean AC signal.

Strength:

Price, filtering, design

Weakness:

bright LEDs, would like more power amp-type AC in's and one or two less smaller wattage AC inputs

Used for 3.5 month now.

I think Charles and another one or two here must be from the competition. If they are honest people, they must be reviewing a defective HTS3500.

I noticed an IMMEDIATE improvement in these areas:
-Overall system quiteness and dynamics
-Much more stable and brighter cable image!
-Non-affected sound stage, no change in clarity or high end.
-A rock-solid power delivery... not bothered by AC,heat, or any other big appliance power-up.
-Absolutly no flicker, static, ghost image, wavvy lines or anything else in the DSS,DVD, or off-air antenna picture.
-Tighter low end

If you are getting anything less from your unit have it checked and have your AC checked as well. The filtering seems to be amazing as it cleaned up my audio & video to a level that far surpasses the $250 (shipped) I paid for the 3500.

Oh, and by the way...
It is a fantastic and warranted SURGE PROTECTER which is the main reason I bought it in the first place.

This good looking Monster Power HTS300 runs:

1 Sony STR-DA777ES Receiver
2 Infinity Overture 3 (powered)
1 Sony 550S DVD
2 RCA DSS receivers
1 Sony 770 VCR

I use 5 Monster Power AV600's strips to surge protect 2 Definitive Tech subwoofers, 2 Infinity Overture 2's, and a ProScan monitor.

I hope you all have the good results that I have had with this unit. Hope it holds up for a long time.

Strength:

Attractive Styling, reasonably priced, coax extension and additional phone cable included.

Weakness:

Owners Manual is pathetic.

I was looking for something that would protect my equipment from the frequent lightning storms we'd been experiencing lately and also to clean up some power problems we'd been noticing in our apartment. We tried one of those computer APC UPS devices, but were annoyed by the constant beeping that would occur when the power fluctuated. I wanted to get a PSAudio Power Plant, but just could not afford the extra tariff for their P300 model at this point. I did not want one of those ugly surge units lying around and neither did my significant other. We stumbled across the Monster unit at our local Tweeter establishment. We decided to take it home and give it a try. If we liked it we'd keep it, and at the very least we could box it back up and return it before the month was out. In the meantime we'd be protected from power problems, which was our main concern. I set it up that evening and then sat down for some casual listening. At first blush, I noticed that things did sound a bit different, but could not really place what it was. Now, I did not notice any loss of detail like some of the other reveiwers here mentioned. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it made a dramatic improvement in my system, but it did seem to make things "quieter"; as if presented against a blacker background than normal. I found the sound to smooth out a bit on top, and image focus seemed to tighten. All in all these were unexpected and surprising results from what I would consider an overbuilt surge protector. Overall I would say that I am very pleased with this unit, and I really enjoy the peace of mind that it provides as well as the subtle sonic improvement. Now, I did notice a buzz from inside of the HTS 3500 when all the attached components are powered up, but it is not noticeable from my listening position, or even from within a couple feet of it. So I don't really consider this to be a problem. I also really do like the way it looks, and I find the blue meter to be a pretty cool addition to the front panel as well as being a functional instrument. All in all I would say that the HTS 3500 is a good value and a welcome addition in my system.
