I purchased the HTS3500 about 2 months ago, and installed it at the same time I was doing a major upgrade to my audio system. The changes to my system included new speakers (Vandersteen 3A's), preamp/processor (Adcom GTP750), DVD player (Sony 550), and amplifiers (Bryston 4B-ST for main speakers, and Adcom 5503 for center speaker and surrounds). I was really distressed that this new system sounded, in some respects, worse than my older setup. The sound quality seemed to lack the kind of bass content I expected (and had heard in a similar system), the imaging was vague, the soundstaging wasn't particularly good, and the upper mid-range and highs seemed "etched" and a bit harsh. I tried a number of approaches to solve these problems, and eventually narrowed the problem to two areas: the Adcom
GTP750 had a circuit defect (which Adcom fixed), and the HTS3500. I read the comments by "Sam" (see above), and decided to try what he did - get a HTS2000 and substitute it for the 3500. Wow, what a difference!! The audio quality with the HTS2000 is markedly better than with the 3500. The system now has deeper bass, a much more transparent quality, and the high end "nasties" are gone. Most of all, the soundstage dimensionality with the HTS2000is a HUGE improvement over the 3500. I have no explanation of why this should be true, unless there are defective components in the HTS3500 I bought. The video quality with my Sony WEGA TV seems the same with the two units, so "Sam" is apparently correct that the 3500 (or some units of this model) may detract from audio quality. Based on my experience, I must recommend to audiophiles that they buy the HTS2000 and try it before they buy the 3500. The
one nice feature missing on the 2000 that is present on the 3500 is the remote turn-on. Whichever way you go, however, the best prices I have seen on the HTS2000 and HTS3500 are at Global Mart. Check out their Web site.
