Strength:
Sound, fit and finish, value, service
Weakness:
The only one is that the speakers are fairly large and heavy, so be careful when using stands. I wound up using Velcro mounts on the stands because I was afraid the kids would knock into them. A few musician friends told me to check these out given that I wanted a system for both music and movies. I purchased the Onkyo CD/DVD/Receiver as well and I am glad that I did. It is a nice unit that simplifies things for the family and sounds just fine. It was hard finding a unit like this with 5 disk capacity. Back to the speakers, well made, clear, well balanced sound whether its Mozart or AC/DC. Awesome sub-woofer as well. I can't believe that anyone would need more than the 10 inch model. Nice service as well. Don't worry about having these shipped, the packaging was well beyond what was needed for safety. There is really no downside to buying these online, you won't find anything that sounds as good at your local high-end store unless you pay 2 or three times as much. I was concerned that the center channel was too small, but it works very well. Really happy with the package. This system is twice as good as the BOSE systems in sound and much, much better in build quality. Similar Products Used: B&W,Bose, etc |

Strength:
Soundstage and imaging, naturalness of the sound, full range. These speakers are not tiring.
Weakness:
Have to watch the bass level sometimes, especially with overdone rock or soundtracks. Although I love cranking the bass, I've had to set the sub level to below half to keep it in balance with the rest of the system. I have the 5.1 system, with the S-12 subwoofer, and I'm very happy with the natural, effortless sound these speakers produce. I wanted speakers that accurately reproduce both movie soundtracks and CDs, be they rock or classical, and these fit the bill perfectly. The massive sub performs wonderfully with the visceral bass transients on soundtracks, heavy rock bass drum and guitar, and deep sustained organ notes. The 5 placement speakers are nicely balanced and produce a great soundstage. Overall, an amazing value for the money. |

Strength:
Very convenient bundles offered. Clear sound. Power. Compactness. Appearance. Great customer service.
Weakness:
A bit too bright (high sounds are a bit loud), but not beyond what's normal. Very clear sound. Though a little too bright on the high end, the overall quality is very good, about what I'd expect for the price and compact size. I'm definitely getting more out of my recordings with my 5.1 system based on these speakers. A fetw things exceeded my expectations. The accompanying subwoofer (their 10 inch model) is glorious. Power capacity and output level go beyond anything most users will need. Customer service was outstanding, as were the packaging the super-fast shipping. The appearance (cherry wood) is very nice. |

Speakers may be a little rich for a true audiophile. These speakers are a fantastic buy for the money. I have heard speakers that do not image as well that cost much more. They made a major difference in the sound from my stereo system. They are shipped in velvet, a rather unique touch. The cabinet finish is beautiful. They have a very wide frequency response and the sub-woofer really kicks in and fills out the sound. An excellent purchase. Similar Products Used: Dahlquist DQ 20 Cerwin-Vega |

Price/sound ratio. Beautiful cabinetry and design. Great subwoofer. Good support. Good speaker for surround sound, and no slouch for music either!
Weakness:
High end a little flat for my tastes, and even with manipulation still lacks some detail. I purchased this product which came as a 5 speaker and 12" subwoofer set. I use a Sony TAE-1000esd preamp surround sound processor paired with an aragon 8008BB for my fronts, and a Sony ES amp that runs center and rears. Quality-wise, I cannot argue with the other reviews on this site. Each of these speakers is 11 pounds of very well put together materials. One had to be returned because a crossover shook loose, but the support was great and they turned right around. Other than that 1 speaker, they came very well packed with no damage. They are beautiful. I use them without the grill, because they show off so well. I replaced a pair of MB Quarts that I bought used for about $600 per pair, which consist of a 6.5" woofer and tweeter, and slightly larger than the 512s. I have switched these back and forth to listen for differences and there are some which are notable. First of all, the 512 tweeters are flat. FLATTTT. They are flat to the point of perhaps being less than flat. The MB Quart tweeters by comparison are quite bright. I am not an audiophile, I don't believe, but it seems to me that the some detail is lost on the 512s on the high end, even when digitally manipulated. The midrange on these is pretty good. I actually think that it is a little better than the MB Quarts. These speakers excell on music CDs that are comprised of vocals. Bonnie Raitt's 'I can't make you love me' is spectacular with these little speakers. They get a little overwhelmed with harder R&R and electrified material, but I like them with classical music. They take everything that my aragon BB (400W into 8ohms) gives and do not distort. The subwoofer is fantastic. The combination of these little guys with the 12" subwoofer for movies would be hard to upgrade. However, for primary speakers for music, I cannot say they are better than my MB Quarts. The lack of clarity on the high end is the difference. Similar Products Used: MB Quart |

Size, mid-range, high range, voice and musical reproduction... for the speakers. Base is excellent on the sub.
Weakness:
None... especially for the price... This is a posting for the new company Aperion (formerly Edge Audio)- The $1,399 price paid represents the package price for 4 satellites plus 1 center and a 12" sub. This entire package is wonderful. The little speakers are incredible. And, they are beautuful as well. Cabinetry is gorgeous and they are one heavy speaker -for their size. As far as sound quality is concerned - the detail, the crispness, the imaging are all there. I researched these speakers and others prior to purchase and actually bought them on a "bet" that they would be better than the comparable (twice as expensive) B&Ws and M&Ks which I auditioned locally. I was not disappointed. I also considered a set of Wharfedales. Instead, I bought four of those to go in other rooms of the house (so that I could push out music to those rooms as well). Luckily, my amp has many different settings as the comparable Wharfedale''s (which have gorgeous finish) produce a far less quality sound platform. In comparison to the Aperions they sound hollow and muffled. These are beautiful speakers from top to bottom. I want to thank Ben Fowler at Aperion for his assistance... and congratulate everyone there on a wonderful speaker. With a money back "postage paid" guarantee, I had nothing to loose and now that I''ve compared them (in person to the Wharfedales and the others), I''m happy to say that I don''t need to use it. If you try them I''m sure you won''t either. Equipment: AVR Denon 3802 DVD/CD Toshiba 3755 VCR Sony Similar Products Used: M&K, B&W |

Great Sound, Great Looks (no pressboard.. real wood. Direct purchase with no dealer markups.
Weakness:
Can't hear them before purchase - but they do allow returns with free shipping I was looking for a complete system to replace my older system. I was looking at the Paradigm Mini's, NHT's, Energy, etc. and then I stumbled across a review on soundandvisionmag.com for these speakers. We'll I'm a research nut.. I spent the next 6 weeks tracking down other reviews (check thier website edgeaudio.com)and calling them for more information. I even talked to the president of their company. The customer service was great and I was never pressured to make the purchase. Finally, after my 5th call I made the purchase and I felt completely comfortable that they would take my return if I was not satisfied. |

Floorstanding model not yet available I enjoy music but never before owned a receiver and speaker system. For my first major audio purchase I'm thrilled with my choice, and so are our friends and family. I purchased the Edge Audio 502D satellite speakers along with the 8" sub. I'm not an audiophile and can't talk the lingo but I will say that the sound is clear at all volumes and the speakers produce more than adequate power. I've paired a Denon 3801 receiver with the speakers and we also use this setup as a home theater. As a result I now watch more movies that I'd seen over the last 10 years. People that have spent more money on their home theaters are "envious". And the customer service at Edge Audio is excellent. They spent a lot of effort defining my options during purchase and post-sales support has been very good as well. My assessment is that the customer service aspect should be a major component of any significant purchase and Edge Audio certainly excels in this department. I highly recommend this company and its products. Similar Products Used: None |

Weakness:
needs a little boost in the treble I found out over a year and a half ago about the Diaural crossover which seemed like a heck of a breakthrough. It took forever for people to start making speakers with it. Finally, Edge Audio showed up, and with help from the guy who came up with the crossover! I already enjoyed my Atoms but was very curious about how the 502's would fare. So I broke down and bought 'em. Similar Products Used: Paradigm atoms, mini's, B&W cdm1se, cdm1nt, dm302,etc |

Can't listen to before purchasing......but Edge Audio has a 30-day No Risk return policy I'm using the 502D's as a home theater system. I read reviews on various websites before taking a chance on speakers that I couldn't audition in person. They came double-boxed in sturdy containers. The speakers themselves are encased in the purple "Crown Royal" bags which totally protected the beautiful finish. Similar Products Used: Energy Encore, Energy Take 5, Cambridge MusicWorks |
