Strength:

Design, Snappy highs, defined lows, WELL DO YOU NEED MORE ???

Weakness:

Are you kidding !!

This is not a speaker, this is a Digital Monitor !!!!
Before I bought this B&W's I did a lot of research for
my dream system. Thanks to this site you can make a honest
decision.

Because I'm still a student I couldn't afford a the best.
So what can you do? Well I bought a SONY-STR930 reciever
and a SONY-725DVD drive. That was resonably easy. Then how do choose your speakers ??? I found out that if your looking for a good set of speaker in 500$ price range that the choses are overwhelming. Because I'm a QUALITY FREAK I wanted the best set of speakers for my sonyset without overcompensating the speaker.

I've had to make a decision between the 603's but the 602 won. Why ??? Because I find the 603's to big. I live in a small appartment 15x15ft the 603 just won't fit in. Also here in Holland the 603's are twice as expensive. My only concern was: Can the 602's produce enough bass to make my coffeecup bounch ? WELL IT CAN Still I want to complete my system with a sub. Maybe the ASW-500/1000/2000. Maybee someone can help me with this decision ???

For conventional cd-playing the 602's rule. The sound is so complete that all my doubts just disappeared.
For DOLBY-DIGITAL it's very good But like I wrote earlier for that hardcore bass you still need a sub.

OVERALL, I think this is the best speaker for everyone who likes good quality sound. It's build very precise especialy the KEVLAR woofer. This looks really classy.

If you still have doubts stop looking because the 602's got it all. THEY WILL MAKE YOUR ROOM GO BOOM

Strength:

Midrange neutrality, bass, natural highs

Weakness:

None yet.

I bought these along with the B&W CC3 center channel and a JBL 8" sub. I compared them side by side with the Kef Q35's. The Kef's were a little too bright for my tastes. The 602's seemed more neutral and had a little more bass. Unless you have a huge room (mine is about 14 x 20) I don't think you could get better speakers for your money. Of course, my dream speaker is the Nautilus 805 (2000.00 a pair)!

Strength:

Construction, SOUND, can be bi-amped or bi-wired

Weakness:

None

While the imaging and clarity of these speaks is impressive without being overstated, they may not be a top choice with exceptionally bright equipment.
These speakers are a good choice for a small to medium sized room, and may demand a subwoofer for home theater or bass-heavy music.
Among the monitor-type speaks I auditioned in the under $1000 price range, these were the top value/performance choice by a wide margin.

Strength:

Wonderful speakers, suited to all types of music. They get better by the day.

Weakness:

Highly revealing of poor quality recordings. Can be too bright for some people.

First of all, I must point out that I am not an audiophile. I purchased the 602 s2's as my first serious speakers. From reading reviews, I narrowed down my choiceof speakers to the B&W's and KEF 35.2's. I Audiotioned both pairs of speakers and decided that the 602's were far superior. I would have prefered floorstanders but the 603's were too large for the space I have available.

Out of the box the 602's were not that impressive. I had heard that these speakers (like most, I imagine) take a while to break in. I first tried the speakers with my satellite TV connected to my XA-2 amp, the sound on MTV etc. got better and better. Initially, they sounded good but somewhat harsh. I left MTV on for a week and went on holiday, when I got back the speakers were sounding great! I then started to play my cd's using a Toshiba 2109 DVD Player and all types of music sound excellent. I listen to all types of music, jazz, classical, eminem etc.

A month after purchase, these speakers amaze me. I mainly listen to vinyl using a Thorens turntable, Grado Prestige Gold cartridge, Musical Fidelity X-LPS Phono Stage and X-A2 amplifier. The Wu-Tang Clan sound fantastic as does John Coltrane. I use the speakers in a small room and the sound is wonderful. I recommend these speakers to listeners of all types of music but they are revealing, if you use a source of poor quality, they will only make it sound worse. I would be more than happy to pay three times what I paid, these speakers really are in a class of their own. They soundstage is fantastic, stereo seperation is perfect and above all they are highly musical, perfectly suired to Musical Fidelity equipment.

By far the best speakers I have heard under $1,000.00.

Enjoy!

Strength:

Great sounds, looks cool

Weakness:

price

I was trying to decide between the 301, 601 and 602 all S2. The dealer didn't have 301s but it didn't matter, when I listened to the 601 vs 602, it wasn't even close, it took all of 10 seconds before deciding to spring for the 602 S2. I power them with a denon receiver avr 1801 and I have them bi-wired with 10 gauge monster cables and they sound really great, if I can hear them at all. I don't know what they sound like alone, but with the B&W ASW500 subwoofer ($450, it's the cheapest BW sub) and the CC6 Center channel ($350), it makes all my dvds sound amazing. My room is a weird shape, about 20' x 15' and I usually have my receiver on a low volume, yet it really shakes the floor (not advised if you live in an apt). It's hard to believe that these little speakers can give such a dynamic range of sounds when supplemented with a sub and center (the center probably isn't necessary since the stage is very audible without the center.). The price is a bit stiff. You can buy tower speakers for $600 from some chain store so paying that amount for bookshelf speakers seems excessive, but man, what sound. I love the way these 602s look without their grills on...yellow cones, very crazy looking. They look especially nice when matched with the twin yellow cones of the CC6 Center channel. If you are thinking about a budget home theater system or a budget audio system, don't skimp too much....go to your B&W dealer and ask to listen to the 602 S2 with the CC6 and B&W ASW500 subwoofers...it'll sound like a full blown hi-end system and it'll come out to about $1400 (not really a low budget system, but when some amps costs 10x that amount, it's not that expensive, especially for the sound you get) for the 4 speakers. If that's too much money to swing, then don't buy a lesser set of speakers...just save up...you'll be happier with the better sounding stuff! I'm a B&W customer for life!

By the way, I'm not using the $300 B&W speaker stands for these things....I bought some $50 wooden demo stands which works fine.

Strength:

good midrange and treble

Weakness:

bass is really bloated

I can't believe the reviews I have read on here regarding this speaker. So many people are saying they have tight bass. It's anything but.
You have got to be joking, I've owned a pair for over a year now and I still have to turn the bass right down on my amp (ive also plugged up the ports).

My old speakers sound better (faster and tighter) even if they arent the last word in bass repsonse.

I suppose Im going to receive a barrage of comments now informing me that my other components arent up to scratch!

Strength:

highs, mid; good for combo home theatre/ music

Weakness:

bass booms with certain recordings, not tight

too little bass with with 805 and 1nt, perfect with 803 but I am not ready to spend that much money; yet Give me 2 years. I had to compromise. The bass is only a problem with certain recordings. But these speakers can really shine with great recordings.
