Strength:

Full range sound(43 hz bottom end), nicely balanced, size(I needed space). Oh yeah, and PRICE!

Weakness:

Venturi insignia instead of BIC insignia.

I've had some speakers in my day, but this is hands-down the best pair of speakers I've ever owned, bookshelf or tower! I listen to both music and DVD movies, and they handle both like a champ. Powered with Harman/Kardon AVR7000.

Got mine for under $120.00 for the pair, shipping included, from UBID. Liked them so much, I bought a BIC sub.

Strength:

Clear highs, solid 'lows', great value (5-star performers after the 'fix', probably a 3 or 4 out-of-the-box)

Weakness:

Too bright out-of-the-box...more on this later

I bought these B.I.C. DV62si speakers after reading great reviews about them on audioreview.com. I discovered 2-3 months ago that Service Merchandise was discontinuing their audio/video depts. chainwide. I was intrigued by the BIC DV62si when I saw them there (was not able to hear them though). They'd been $199/pr., but with the 40% off clearance, I eventually wound up buying the pair for only $120.00. I bought them after first doing some research on this website (audioreview.com). I read mostly great reviews and figured they'd surely be good value for the money.
Well.....when I got them home they indeed sounded great. I couldn't believe the sound I was getting from these bookshelf speakers. However, after a bit of listening, it became clear that they were awfully 'bright', much more so than I felt they should've been. It was sort of trying to listen to them for long periods of time due to this, plus they seemed to lack mid-range, although the low-down bass was excellent I thought for this type of smaller speaker.
So, even though I was satisfied with them (they sounded great with 5.1 DTS on my home theatre system), they did leave a bit to be desired when playing music.
I read more reviews of them on audioreview.com and discovered a fellow named Ed Frias out in California who not only custom designs and makes high-quality speakers (EFE Technology..which by the way get awesome reviews on this here website), but he also apparently sells the BICs for his customers who would prefer not to spend so much on the EFE's. Ed had posted a message saying he believed BIC had altered the DV62si speakers in the last couple of years, apparently, because they did indeed seem to be way brighter, with less accurate sound than he remembered from 2-3 or more years ago. After auditioning them again he verified this and proclaimed that BIC had taken a great speaker and had sort of wrecked their sound in the last year or two. So, with Ed's expertise in speaker design he did thorough tests on the speakers and ultimately came up with a fix. He is able to alter the crossovers in these speakers to the point where the result is amazingly much better than how they sounded out-of-the-box. The drivers and cabinet materials are excellent, it's just that the crossovers are not allocating the proper frequencies correctly, apparently. After reading this, I was very intrigued and decided that the $30 investment was rather miniscule for the possible benefits to be had, if this could be actually true.
So, I sent off my crossovers (easy to remove from the cabinets, just remove the tweeter, main driver and speaker connects...and you've got the crossovers to ship out). I sent them 2-3 day US Post Office 'priority' mail on a Monday. Ed received them on a Wed. (and this is from Charlotte, NC to San Diego, CA). Ed worked on them right away and shipped them back out on a Thurs. I had them back on Sat. Wow! What service (from Ed and the USPS).
Anway, upon reinstalling the crossovers (red/white wires to tweeters, blue/black wires to woofers.....make sure of that).....these things sounded awesome! What a big difference!
I'm not exaggerating when I say that the 'brightness' was gone. It was replaced by 'highs' which were not unnecessarily 'bright' and were natural, which apparently also helped the mid-range. Vocals now sound much more full and vibrant (I do believe the mid-range had been surely lacking out-of-the-box). The 'soundstage' also seemed to have developed more 'depth' and detail. I'm no audiophile, just a person that's enjoyed listening to all sorts of music for many years, and basically the differences were very apparent. Ed made my speakers real winners....and it's the best $30 I've ever spent related to my audio equipment.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending anyone that's purchased these speakers to do what I did. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY YOU DID!

I hope Ed doesn't mind I've put his info. on here...I don't think he will since he's done the same previously. I think it and my above review may spur others on to do this same 'fix'...and I'm sure he'd be happy to help others make their BICs sound better, too. Contact Ed and get yourself on the road to truly enjoying your B.I.C. DV62si speakers.
(and by the way, I've no affiliation whatsoever with Ed....I discovered his services on here myself, and my comments simply detail an objective outsider's experience)

Strength:

Crystal clear highs, excellant stereo imaging, tight bass

Weakness:

None, absolutely none

I saw these speakers adverstised on UBID.COM after reading
the reviews on the BIC Home Page along with the reviews on
AUDIOREVIEW.COM, and I decided to purchase a pair, $88.00
including shipping. I was using an old pair of large 3 way
Pioneer Speakers, with 10 inch woofers for my Home Theater. I'm not really into music that much, but what really impressed me was when I was watching the Best of MTV Music
Awards that I happened to turn to while channel surfing.
Everything from Rock to Rap was featured and the DV62SI
speakers met the challenge. The highs were crystal clear
and bass was deep, not boomy. But the ultimate test for me
was the "bedroom scene" in "The Haunting". The DV62SI speakers were awesome. I bought two more, $91.00 including
shipping from UBID, and made the same tower configuration that Jack from Kingwood Texas made. I used a 101/2 speaker stand and placed two speakers on each stand. I use a SIMA Speaker Selector and wiring them in parallel will also work. You CAN'T beat these speakers for the quality, sound and price.

Incredible speaker for the price even at retail value.

Not quite as "bright" as comparable Klipsch although at louder volumes it comes close.
Not as "warm" as Boston Acoustic.
Beats them both by price/performace ratio.

Music and movies both sound excellent. Sub required for most enjoyment. They are only bookshelves afterall.

My setup
Fronts: BIC DV62si
Sub: BIC D1010R
