Strength:
Size, Price, Looks, Surround sound applications
Weakness:
Ive seen speakers built a little stronger. These speakers are very pleasing to look at. I must say that for surround sound speakers, these sound pretty good. I've seen better but the better ones are big and bulky. I dont really think that the paper woofer that bose uses is much of a concern. The speakers produce clear highs as well as nice mids. I suggest the use of a subwoofer for bass response because you wont get it out of these speakers. I am a very big Bose fan, I must say that these are one of the few speakers (If any) that give the right sound for the money. To really appreciate these speakers, only use them for surround sound or in small spaces. Dont pay more than $150 for a pair. I also found out that Bose speakers only seem to sound good when used with other Bose speakers. Similar Products Used: JBL, INFINITY, NHT, KLIPSH |

Strength:
Great sounding surround speakers for the money. Look great mounted on the wall; they even come with the brackets, all for $150.
Weakness:
None, as long as you realize what they're intended for. To the reviewer who admits that he hasn't heard these speakers: You might be right about the Bose products that you have experienced, but you're wrong about the Bose 100s. Your criticism appears to be the result of stereotyping (no pun intended) the entire Bose brand name. I use these as surround sound speakers and they sound great on Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks. Give them a listen, I think you'll be surprised. |

I use the Bose Model 100's as sat's and Bose Centre channel speaker for my DTSand Dolby Digital Home Theatre and I love them, they have a huge sound for such a small speaker and sound so clear for a speaker that has no separate tweeter and midrange driver SO I THINK THEY'RE GREAT!!! |

I agree with the previous reviewer. I tried to use the BOSE 100 as a center channel with my BOSE AM-5 as the fronts for home theater. In my very small room (12 ftx12 ft) they sounded ok. But when I moved them to my living room (about 20ftx30ft) the center stage just faded out (as if it is non existent). I tried to increase the center speaker level up on my receiver, but the whole balance was just out of whack. Note that the BOSE 100 is NOT voiced mathced with any other BOSE speaker. So, it is fine to be used as surround speaker, but not for the center channel. |

Strength:
They're white so they look okay when mounted on the walls of a livimg room.
Weakness:
Sound quality, cheap plastic, single woofer, brackets are also cheap plastic. I am using these for my rear surrounds. The problem is, they were a total impulse buy. I didn't know a thing about home theater setups at the time and the sales associate was able to figure that out in a fraction of a second. I could tell that he really did not want me to buy them because they had so many other brands in stock that would sound soooo much better. The ONLY reason I chose them over all of the other speakers in the store is because they were white and under $150 for the pair. Wow, was that an ignorant decision on my part. Strength:
Wall brackets are good quality; versatile. Infinite mounting/placement options.
Weakness:
Very unresponsive, looks like plastic, sounds like plastic, by God, it is plastic! I originally purchased these speakers to mount on my rear walls for surround speakers in my HT setup. Bad move! They stick out from the walls about 10" and look awful. Since Bose doesn't bother to rate the frequency response of any of their speakers, I'll just say that the highs were clipped and the bass was non-existant. They are impossible to adjust in a HT surround setup. They require a great deal of power to even hear and they don't blend well with other speakers sonically. Even with other Bose lines. Maybe if you were using 5 Bose 100's it would work out. I moved them to my dining room and powered them from my amp's B channel. They proved to be overly bright and too pinpoint in their sound. Playing my A and B channel simultaneously proved impossible. Any speakers on my A channel were way too loud and you could barely hear the 100's. I ended up selling them to a buddy of mine. He still won't talk to me. The bottom line is this: they look cheap and sound even cheaper. The only Bose speakers that I have heard that are worth a dime are the 901's. There are plenty of other bookshelf speakers out there that sound a whole lot better for just a little more money. I've had computer speakers that sound better than the Bose 100's.
