I don't have the 101's, but I am the owner of Bose products. I have had my 601's for 13 years of trouble-free service and have not regretted the purchase. I didn't realize that so many people were Bose bashers until I saw this forum. Is it because the speakers are no good like they claim, or is this a case of the "Jeff Gordon syndrome", where some people just don't like something because it does well in its field? A lot came to light about the bashing when I read an earlier post in under this heading from a so-called "audiophile" bashing this particular speaker. A quote from his bashing reads " the kicker is that its a 4ohm speaker(how many boats, cars, have amps that run a 4ohm load)?" Anybody that has dealt with automotive stereos can answer that question with "almost all of them." As a matter of fact, better car amps are stable at a 2 ohm load. All I'm trying to say is that if you have some negative criticism of a product present it in an intelligent, mature matter. If you just want to talk trash about a product because you don't like that brand you are defeating the purpose of this forum.

Strength:

• Excellent sound reproduction
• Small size, big sound

Weakness:

• Haven't found any after using them for 4 years

I really love these little speakers. They sound clean and clear and won't distort even at ear-bleeding volumes. They don't have a huge amound of bass, but combined with a sub they work just fine as front speakers for me. I just added the Bose VCS-10 to my system and they all match up very well.

Strength:

Looks, sounds good and still plays good after 10 years.

Weakness:

Not as good as my Klipsch KG 2.5 connected my (Adcom GFA 545 + Nad 1700 preamp) combo.

Back in 1991, I received a Circuit City coupon flyer in the mail and a week later I went to Circuit City becuase I needed a pair or rear speaker for my surround sound receiver. Anyways, the choice of speakers I had within my $200 dollar spending limit was the DCM, Bose 101, Audio Source and Cerwin-Vega. After a half hour of listening to each one, I chose the DCM however, they told me they were out of the DCM speakers and would not sell me the demo speaker. :( So I had to settle for one of the three of the remaining speakers. The Cerwin-Vega sounded like crap and Audio Source did not sound any better. The choice was the Bose 101. How I feel and would rate the speakers after listening to them as follows....

DCM *****
Bose ****
Audio Source ***
Cerwin-Vega **

Today, I still use the Bose speakers teamed up with a used Harman Kardon PM625 intergrated amp and it makes great multimedia setup for my pc!

Not my particular favorite and I dont actually mind Bose. The 101s are weak when it comes to bass, and have too much midrange and treble. I had mine sitting unused in the basement for over a year, now I am using them to compliment my Pioneer speakers which have weak midrange. They are not the greatest for surround speakers either. Unless you need some sort of weather resistant speaker the Bose 141s would do better for a surround, and if you spend a bit more you can go for something better yet.

Strength:

I got them for free

Weakness:

Not suitable as monitor

I got these for free when I bought my Mac/Midi/Recording combo for my work as an audio engineer. I would have never bought these speakers at their suggested price. They are probably one of the most tonally imbalanced speakers that I have ever heard and are unsuitable for serious use. I have a pair of 18-year old JBL studio monitors that I got for about $330 and they are infinitely better. If you want to do some serious listening, I recommend JBL speakers which can be had for about the same price.

Strength:

Good sound for small size

Weakness:

Have not found any

My family has use these small speakers for over five years now and they sound like I just took them out of the box. Good bass, mid-range and treble have made my a definite Bose Fan, and I received them at a great cost. Right now I have them hooked up to a Teac AG-V8500 receiver, which has my computer, CD player and VCR hooked up to it. No matter how loud I have played these guys, they have always sounded good. the JBL's on the other hand were distorted only a few months after My folk bought them. I would recommend the Bose to anyone who has a small room, and they beat the socks of of all the Computer speakers out there.

Strength:

Very good surround sound speaker. Loved the small size, but large sound.

Weakness:

Not too much bass, but that can be expected for surround sound speakers.

This set of speakers was one of the best investments I've made. I have a Magnovox 500w receiver and these things crank out the bass. I really recommend a set of these.
