Strength:
bass good for size, fair imaging, strong vocals, strong punch for drums, strong treble
Weakness:
mid-range almost non-existant Like many of the other reviews, the mid-range really seems to be missing, and the vocals are extrememly pronounced. They tend to stand out over the music. A good speaker, but don't buy these if you like instruments to blend in with your vocals, 'cause the voices really do take over. Good speakers for the price I paid. Wouldn't say so if I paid full price, however. Similar Products Used: none |

Bought these based on reviews and the stuff I read here. For 2 years I have been listening to my Arcam Alpha 8R int. amp (WARM) and Acoustic Energy Aegis One speakers (which round off treble notes and haven't proved dynamic in combination with the Arcam). Music has been pretty good, but not exciting Got the Monitor Bronze 2's and detail, clarity, and dynamics are suddenly in my system. Great!! Just out of the box the midrange seemed confined and male voices contained. They are loosening up as they break in--I've been playing the radio 8 hours a day while at work. Very pleased as they get better day by day. Am using Nordost Flatline Gold bi-wired. (Bi-wiring is the best thing with these speakers). I am very impressed with the details and dynamics--cymbals sound like cymbals, drums have snap. Layers of details in my CD's that haven't been heard before. The soundstage with bi-wiring is tremendous and the speakers literally "disappear" while listening. Great imaging too. Great bass, but do recommend a sub--I use an Energy exl S8 which is a scrappy little 8" powered sub that integrates extremely well with the Monitor 2's. Have ordered Kimber 4PR speaker cable to see how that sounds, just to make sure I am getting everything I can out of the system. The Monitor 2's are discontinued, grabbed them for $299 from a local shop. If you can get them and want detail, crisp, clear music go for these. These are the perfect combo for a warm amp like the Arcam. |

Strength:
Tight bass, lots of detail, very neutral. Very tolerant of bad positioning - like many I don''t have a lounge like a hi-fi listening room, and these speakers in particular deal with that very well.
Weakness:
Downside of a neutral speaker is things like voices don''t come out at you as with some other speakers. With my 5 channel setup the centre (bronze again) does that job perfectly, but if you''ve only got a 2 channel setup be a bit careful about what you use to drive the speakers. Have these as part of an AV setup, and I have been very happy with them. I bi-wired them from the moment I got them so can''t comment on non bi-wired setups. I only really listen to 5 channel stereo which my setup does really well. My system sounds way better than the sum of it''s parts, and these speakers are an integral part of that system. In case you''re wondering my complete setup is: -Toshiba SD100 DVD player -Yamaha AX620 Amp. -Bronze 2 fronts -Bronze centre -Silver fxi surrounds -QED silver jubilee normal/bi-wire cable -I only use a digital connection between the DVD player and the amp (which is an Ecosse The Producer digital). -AUDUSA-EUPEN CSA purifying mains lead on the amp. -russ andrews silencer on the amp and dvd player. Strength:
sound is bright and crispy;Bass is deep and powerful.
Weakness:
too bright for vocal sound. lack of sweet and musical, I guess the mid rand not so smooth. I used to suspect the little boy''s performance with my own setup,as the price I paid was damn cheap, althoug it performed quite well in the gear shop. After wired it up. it was really surprised me, The bass is deeply powerful and sound brightly crispy. Although mid-range (vocal sound) is not as good as those high end performer, with the price i paid, it is nothing to blame. |

Strength:
Clean, crisp sound sounds excellent with most CDs.
Weakness:
Make sure you like a crisp sound, needs bi-wiring to really shine. Wow, just wow. I have never heard a speaker that sounds this good for anywhere near this price. My flagship MA800''s from 8 years ago, that cost me over $2000, are hard-pressed to keep up with these little speakers. That being said, be sure you like the "British" sound that MA''s stuff puts out - it is generally a lot crisper than other speakers, no mushy sounds from these speakers assuming you use complementary equipment (stay away from NAD with these). And be sure to bi-wire them, even if you cheapen out on the speaker wire. Bass is a little weak, of course, but adequate for non-thumping music and certainly pretty damn good for a speaker of this size. Might want a sub for high-energy music. Strength:
This speaker has all the performance capabilities of $1000-$2000 speakers including most floor standers.
Weakness:
Lacks that deep base punch you get in above average floor standers, but were talking about book shelves here. So there are no weaknesses. Monitor Audio did such a good job on their entry level speakers that I could not justify spending thousands more, to match the sound or improve on an already great pair of speakers. These half to be one of the best bargans out there. Yes they do have limitations, as do all speaker, but as a value per dollar they deserve five stars. Strength:
detailed imaging, very wide and clear soundstage, precise highs, balanced mid and vocals, balanced bass, although not 'sub'depth. At low listening levels the detail and clarity comes right at you smoothly, making listening a real pleasure. When bi-wired,they come alive!Very hard to beat in this size and price range. They handle the MATRIX and the CINCINATTI POPS ORCHESTRA with the same ease and clarity and soundstage depth as CLASSIC MONTAVANI!
Weakness:
The grill has to go! Excellent product, awsome sound, well crafted and beatifully made.Value for money in every aspect. When bi-wired to clean solid power,it does not need a sub.It is at home with any source material and being front ported, set up is a breeze, not very placement sensitive, just make sure the stands are solid and look just as good as the speaker! Strength:
Detailed sound with good taut bass.
Weakness:
Sometimes sounds nasal. Treble sounds a bit bright on bad recordings. Great sound for the money (it is more expensive in India due to the duties and transport). Not as clear as speakers which cost thrice the amount. Quite neutral with good bass extention given the size. Similar Products Used: KEF Corda |

My Bronze 2 is connected to a Denon 1801 AV Amp. I was a little bit upset at the beginning, the treble is not clear enough and the base is loose(I'm connecting using normal speaker cables only). Today, I bought a pair of Taralabs Prisom Bi-Wire and connected it to B2s, the result is dramatic, the of treble is very clear, the bass is tight and the mid-range is great!! :> |
