Weakness:

Treble is lacking

I bought these as the main speaker for my bedroom set. At most electronics stores, the 100 dollar range includes some pretty crappy paper cone speakers, but these are surpringly good.

I can't hear the crisp sizzle that I get out of the eXL's on my other system, but perhaps it's because I'm running these speakers off of a 50 Watt/Channel DPL reciever from 1996. I'm not sure what "silk dome" tweeters are, but they don't seem to do much for me.

The bass seems surprisingly heavy for such small speakers.

For the size and the price, I'd say these were a pretty good buy. Way better than the boom box speakers I was using before.

I replaced some very out of date speakers that I was useing for my surround speakers. I had recently purchased a Polk Subwoofer and was very impressed with the sound, So I decided to try another polk speaker. The sound difference was unbeilavable. Wish I would have done this much sooner as I also added a Polk CS175 center speaker, needless to say I won't be going to the movies much at least not when I can get this good of sound right in my own home.

Strength:

Price and value

Weakness:

none

These were purchased to go with a Kenwood mini system and replace the original speakers which I could not bear after less than 24 hours with them. What an improvment! Very good sound indeed and super value for the price ( $100 Canadian for the pair). Despite the fact the system was at the low end of the recommended power range the sound from these units is clear and without any artificial emphasis at either the low or high end of the spectrum. They are shielded making them a great choice for use in close proximity to TVs etc (my application). The competition in my consideration was PSB's Alpha Mites but at twice the price the improvement wasn't worth it.

Strength:

Great value and good sound, good warrenty

Weakness:

A little lacking in the bass dept. used at rears though.

These speakers were a great value on Future shops boxing day sale. I knew I want to replace my rears with real speaker and these really hit the money.

I have listened to them as mains and then sound great that way. even better than my pervious mains which were pathetic to say the least.

I would really like to hook them up with the recommended 16 gauge wire but don't want to re-wire the whole joint.

5 overall due to a little lacking in bass response.

Strength:

Compact size, Great Sound Quality, High power rating for such a small set.

Weakness:

none that i can "hear" of :)

Though it's not comparable to the high end products i've used it does hold it's own over the Bose 301's costing 3-4x as much. In fact it sounds much, much better.

The high's are smooth and warm. The lows are good and doesn't bottom out. The silk tweeters are in my honest opinion much better sounding that aluminum or titanium tweeters found on other speakers - with those the highs get too piercing and you feel fatigued after listening to them for a couple of hours.

I'm running these off a Sherwood RVD-6090 which inspite of its price actually sounds very good and has built-in Dolby Digital decoding! ($129 - Circuitcity). This and the Polk comes out to one great value system that doesn't sound like a tincan.

If you're into bass you will definitely need a sub. Otherwise the Polk R10's are a set of speakers that's hard to beat!

Strength:

perfect for surrounds. very good treble, mid-range and pretty good bass

Weakness:

none yet

I bought these speakers to upgrade the crappy sony surrounds (sony ss290/sony cs290)I had been using along with a Polk Audio CS175i center channel . I could'nt believe the incredible difference. I played the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan and I thought my head was going to be the next one to be pierced by a bullet. Amazing!!! The best thing I've ever done. My wife even agreed after she heard for herself! Someday I plan to replace my Jamo Cornet 100 front speakers with a set of Polk Audio floor standing speakers.

Strength:

Great clear Bass and highs

Weakness:

None for price

This is my first polk, its now attached to a jvc reciever used mainly for DVD and Music. Sound is night and day compared to the tiny JVC speakers I had before. It seems that the sub was making up for non-existent bass in the jvc speakers. My problem now is that the whole systems is off, the center and surrounds are not up to snuff. I find my self listening to more stuff in stereo than surround now.

Clarity, detail, smoothness.

Weakness:

???

These speakers are outstanding, especially considering the price. I found them on sale at CC for $79/pr. Can't beat them.

The sound is detailed and level across the frequency spectrum. A most agreeable sound. Capable of satisfying volume levels. Imaging is also great, and these speakers create a very enjoyable experience without a hint of listener fatigue. Frankly, they sound comparable to more expensive Polk bookshelves. The R10 uses a different woofer than most other Polks, but the same woofer as the R40. Wonder what the history of this driver is?

Bottom line: this speaker can fill a mid-sized room, very easily. 5 would make an impressive surround system. Don't just buy this because you're on a budget. Look at it as a legitimate option.

Strength:

Clarity, bass response, highs, good price

Weakness:

port noise when driven at high bass levels

This is a great speaker considering the price. I got these pair of speakers for about $120 at circuit city. I later found them at good guys for a price of $34 each. I didnt feel cheated whatsoever, since their performance is way more then i paid for in the first place. This speaker has incredible bass response for its size, it has very good bass extension. The tweeter isnt bright at all, and sounds wonderful. It can handle very high levels without distortion. The only problem is that it has a little port noise since the speaker is small and has great bass when hooked up as a main speakers. It should be a problem for most people, cause i was pushing 120 Watts RMS on my kenwood receiver and with a equalizer at +10db AT 60 Hz, which the speaker is capable of handling but not recommended. My main use for these speakers is for surround use which does extremely well for its job. Its great for use a surround speaker and for smaller systems. I would highly recommend these for use as surround speakers to anyone.

I purchased these speakers at Good Guys for $36/e (on sale).
I figured the price was too good to be true. But at my amazement, the speakers really do perform. Decent bass, no hollow sond, and tight crisp highs. I am using them as my fronts and looking to compliment the speakers with a polk center (currently have a Optimus center). I strongly believe that these speakers are the best deal out there (even off sale). Give these giant wonders a try, I am looking forward to your review...
