Strength:
small, doesn't look ugly on top of a TV.Gives lot more power than expected from a little speaker.Drivers are at an angle and give the vocal lock reflected from the wall.
Weakness:
Price..and ofcourse if you expect high and low frequencies from a center channel which is not its JOB!!!!! This speaker Does its job well...there are a lot of negetive reviews about this speaker online but I think its not that bad of a center channel.I am not sure if bose makes a crossover for this but this speaker not producing highs and lows makes its job much accurate.I think a center channel should not give any of the high and low frequencies anyways.Bose did the right job tuning it.(mid range is really clear) Similar Products Used: JBL S312II, JBL S center(which does not do its JOB right...toooo much treble!) Yamaha HTR - 5250 and 5280 technics SH-GE70 (equilizer) sony MDX-5...minidisc player with Cd changer toshiba SD-3750 |

Strength:
Slim profile.
Weakness:
Simply stated, it's not a good speaker. There are better options out there. I've got Bose speakers up front and was taken in by the idea that I had to "match" my fronts with a Bose center. This was a big mistake. The sound from the Bose center was rather muffled. To compensate I had to nudge up the center signal from the receiver. As a result I had a wildly unbalanced sound. I think Bose makes some good products, but some of their speakers clearly coast on Bose name. The Bose center looks cheap and sounds as pleasing as a bag of cats. After a few weeks, I did some more research and went with the JBL S-Center. Sure, it's not matched, but it sounds a lot better. Similar Products Used: JBL S-Center |

Whith due respect, I seriously question the validity of oppinions that are so incredibly different when referred to the same product. What can be happenning when two people with quite similar audio systems hear something completely different using the same speaker, which oppinion is the valid one? I read about "cristal clear voice and effects"with this speaker in one review and "muddy, garbled sound " in another. Is there a "terror campaign" agains Bose? If they are so bad, what about all those persons that rate it with 5 stars, are the fools or simply deaf. I believe that such blatant contradictions just take away all the seriousness that we, music loving people, want from this kind of reviews.I own a Bose set, reinforced with a velodyne sub woofer and it sounds Ok in my moderate sized HT room. |

Strength:
Reasonable performance for a relatively cheap speaker. Cosmetics, matches well with Bose cubes.
Weakness:
Best for small to medium room. Won't please audiophiles. I couldn't resist jumping in on all of this nonsense about Bose. Usually when two sides are far apart in an arguement, the answer is somewhere in the middle. In my opinion, that is the case with Bose. I have a modestly "high end" set up in my family room (Rotel, Marantz, Energy) and got involved with Bose for my bedroom. I was aware of all of the hype from both sides of the table on Bose but the reality is, for a small to medium sized room with decor considerations (spousal approval), Bose stood out. I picked up an acoustimass 6 (open box, $299) and I'll tell you what, it does a fine job for movies. Because putting a cube on top of my tv didn't appeal to me, I purchased the vcs-10. Bose bashers are correct, it is not a great speaker and certainly not worthy of 5 stars. Dialogue doesn't have the type of prominance you look for from a center speaker, however, it met my expectations for a relatively inexpensive speaker. Just like all Bose products, you pay a premium for the cosmetic factor and to me, although the vsc-10 is on the weak side, it matches well with the cubes and unobstruvely spits out enough sound. I feel many people who are so bitter about Bose have purchased the product with the wrong expectations. Bose involves a compromise, if you are a music critic then don't buy Bose or any $200 speaker for that matter. In fact, some of the people complaining about Bose are refering to their Sony receivers in the same breath and think small budget JBL and Infinitys are appreciably better speakers. If you are limited space wise, value cosmetics, want a decent surround sound, and aren't a penny pincher, then Bose is a good choice. And by the way, I have tried small Polks and own Boston micro's, and feel that all small speakers involve a harmonic compromise along the lines of Bose. Bose is an especially great deal for a secondary room or primary arrangment for the non-audiopile. Audiophiles can save alot of aggravation by avoiding Bose, but then again, if you are an audiophile, you wouldn't have made the mistake of purchasing Bose in the first place. Hello to all, I read on one of the reviewers in particular that, he modified his Bose Center Channel VCS-10 by replacing one of the Midrange/Drivers with a Tweeter and pulled one of the inner cables from one of the Midrange/inside leaving it with three drivers two Midranges and a Tweeter. He said, that the sound is way better... I would appreciate if anyone can shade some light into this and PLEASE advise me what kind of Tweeter will be good and how many Watts. Since I have the perfect space for it. Thank you in advance. |

Strength:
Wide sound field, great design that takes up minimal space and blends into TV, BOSE name/quality/service Wow. Until goofing around tonight I didn't know there was an Anti-Bose Movement out there (at least one so organized and persistent). I think it's a great speaker (this is also taking into account the fact that it's practically invisible and doesn't take up a lot of space). Whenever you first open the box of a Bose product there's a letter from Dr. Bose that they strive to provide speakers that faithfully reproduce sound. If you want a speaker that produces glass shattering highs or has flashy, look elsewhere. That's not what Bose (self-admittedly) is trying to do. These speakers are designed to give a flat frequency response. Maybe there's a scratch in your DVD or something. I really don't think that for the money you can get a better combination of aesthetics and sound than with any product from Bose. |

Looks Pretty and Looks pretty.
Weakness:
No highs NO lows it must be BOSE!!! Well after owning the Bose center channel for 1 very loooong & soundless week i will be returning it to the store today. I made a big mistake and purchared this center channel because I thought it would look nice sitting on my TV.. If that's important to you then feel free to go and waste your hard earned cash on this pretty speaker. When it cones to sound this speaker is totally dead! Truely this speaker will not sound much better than just turning up the volume your TV. For the same money or a few bux more you can get a much better speaker. Shop around, and before you buy this speaker compair it to anything else... ANYTHING ELSE! Similar Products Used: Over the past 2 weeks I have compaired this speaker to: JBL, Polk, Klipch, Pinnacle, Yamaha, Definitive Technology, Paradigm, Sony and Acustic Research. And, finally purchased the Paradigm 370 |

Strength:
Looks great, sounds decent, small size
Weakness:
price, lack of bass (90hz - 150hz) Bought this speaker at Best Buy last week since I needed a very slim center to fit between my TV and entertainment center. I also purchased the RCA PRO-LS200 at radio shack for $49 as this was the only other speaker I could find that was slim enough. I need these for a 2nd system that will be mostly used for Xbox games and the occasional DVD movie. My main system is in my game room, this one is in the living room. I read many negative reviews about this, but I unfortunatly have to put form before function in this case (stipulation by the wife since I already have a HT setup). I have to say that it did sound pretty good. I had it hooked up to a Yamaha 5540 reciever, paired with 4 Pro LX55 from Radio Shack. For a subwoofer, I sent the sub out on the Yamaha to an older model JVC Pro Logic reciever powering 2 Cerwin Vega VS-12's. I did not notice any lacking in the higher frequencies (used Matrix Lobby scene and Gladiator battle scenes as a test). Lower frequencies seem to be a problem though. My Reciever sends everything below 90hz to the sub, and there appears to be a pretty substantial gap that these speakers just can't recreate. After testing these out, I hooked up the PRO-LS200 from Radio Shack. To be honest, there was absolutely no difference in sound quality. I turned off the sub and listed to both again. The PRO-LS200 put out more lower frequencies than the Bose did. I know that a center is not supposed to handle the lower frequencies, but setting my center to 'small' still sends everything from 90hz on up to the center. The PRO-LS200 is rated from 120hz up to 20k, and like I said, has more bass response. I ended up taking the Bose back since there was a price difference of $129 and it did not sound as good. This is the best center speaker for the money. It has a nice sleak look to fit with most any tv's. Also being magnetically sheilded so it can easily sit on top of the tv without picture distortion. The sound is excellent with crystal clear dialogue. |

Strength:
slim profile, unobtrusive, easily placement on top of the tv
Weakness:
Sounds worse than Bose cube speakers. muddy sound. No bass, no highs. plastic enclosure feels cheap and very light. As with almost all Bose products, it uses spring clips instead of superior 5-way binding posts. Well i did not buy this speaker. But my cousin's parents recently bought a full surround set of Bose speakers. I warned my cousin to tell them to get ANYTHING but Bose, but apparently his parents were either were set on getting Bose or decided to listen to the salesman instead. Anyhow they got those new fangled Bose towers w/ the tweeters that point the wrong direction along w/ the VCS-10. Let me tell you they dont not match at all. the VCS basically consists of about 4 of those little woofers (like on those cube speakers), so they wont match any speaker that has a tweeter. Anyhow we spent the nite watching Spiderman on their sweet 61" HDTV widescreen Sony, but through the VCS-10 and those bose towers. We could hardly make out the words being spoken on screen. Now isnt that kick in the pants when your watching it through a sweet HDTV w/ a progressive scan dvd player, and the dialogue sounds like crap? Ever played w/ 2 cups tied together with a string, and try to talk to your friend through it? Well it sounds like that. (I'm not even kidding). Sorry, but i would easily recommend even a KLH center over this thing. Similar Products Used: JBL S-center, Infinity center, Polk cs250, B&W center, PSB Center |
