Strength:

Everything - great range, clean sound, nice tight bass, power-handling ability, nicely matched to other VR's, smaller than the VR12 for easy placement

Weakness:

None at all

Can't beat it for the price. Dialogue sounds great and true to life, and the imaging is great for a center channel due to the vertical layout of the mid and tweeter. Just got the VR970s and I couldn't be more impressed with the match. Just buy it if you can find it, you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

Accurate sound, great movie dialog detail

Weakness:

absolutely none!

This speaker is the perfect match for VR-950 fronts. You are getting the same luscious Lynnfield VR tweeter and the same 5-1/4" woofer as in the VR-950, plus a 5-1/4" passive radiator, and the real bonus, a 3-1/2" midrange driver.

The soundstage is very wide in my listening room. There is nothing missing from this speaker as far as I'm concerned. The performance is outstanding in every respect.

Finally a center channel to pair with my Boston Acoustics VR 950s and my Definitive BP1Xs. I was amazed at my Yamaha RX-V 995 Receiver and the 950 mains 7 months ago, 2 months later I added the Definitive BP1X Sourrounds, and was amazed even further. Now 5 months later I finally add the VR-10 center channel.
So how does it perform? On screen effects are precisely localized, and it frees up my 950s to play their own signals and the bass. The design of the VR-10 is great cause it is the exact same MDF with the black wood grain as my Definitive sourrounds. It sounds very real, sound is natural, and nothing is forced. It is tonally matched with the top of the line 950s and does everything perfectly.
For anyone who though they can do without a center like I did, you will learn that a center adds more descrete sound (a must, which makes a home theater sound twice as amazing on the front stage) precisely placed vocals and on screen effects, enhances the Main speaker reprodution of the soundtracks, and off screen effects. Center channels make an incrediable difference, and the VR-10 is one of the best. Bought it for only $260 at Home Entertainment in Houston, Texas. It was an excellent deal. I'd recomend it to anyone and everyone, but grab them fast cause rumor is they will be discontinued soon.

Strength:

Clarity, overall sound quality and sound integration with VR940.

By far the best value in the home theatre industry. Unbelievable sound for the money. I have them with the VR940 front main speakers with an old Yamaha sub, MTX in-wall rear channel speakers and the sound quality is awsome.

The Eagles "When Hell Freezes Over" on DVD (Digital DTS Sound) is simply amazing sound.

I spent about 450.00 for the VR940's and about 230.00 for the VR10 Center Channel. You will not find a better sounding set-up for this kind of money. The sound is great from all type's of music (rock, country and blues).

The VR-10 is one of the best centers I have listened to. It goes one step further because it is a three way center speaker. I like it because it seems to bring out much more detail and makes voices sound very natural, all in a small package. The only problem is that it may seen a little too sharp for some people. Over all I am very impressed with the VR-10.

Strength:

Crystal Clear in Theater, Very Musical in 5 and 7 Channel Stereo

Weakness:

None

I was lucky enough to get one of these for ½ price from The Good Guys after they replaced them with the VR 910. I’m I glad I did. This center channel is amazing. The vocal reproduction is perfect, and the sound presence matches to the key with the rest of my system. The active/passive setup provides a very clean deep sound presence. No more will I have to ask, “what did they say?” In addition, they can handle the power fed to them with no problem, at both low volumes and when played them past reference. I had my Denon 4800 as loud as it could go while watching the DVD to the Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense and the VR 10 handled it perfectly, with no distortion, just clean beautiful vocal reproduction.

It’s also worth mentioning that the VR 10 is also a very musical speaker, which I use a lot, thanks to 5-channel stereo. The full range nature (active/passive bass drivers, a mid range, and a tweeter) of the speaker provides for a wonderful musical experience. I had listened to the VR 910, which is also a great speaker, so either way you can’t go wrong, but if you can still find one of these babies, I’d pick it up fast.

I auditioned the Boston VR-10 versus the VR-12 and CR-2. I heard all three Boston speakers with the VR-950 mains and VRS surrounds. I did an ABC comparison between the three on various parts of "Top Gun" on DVD.
The VR-12 sounded the loudest and it accentuated every little shoe shuffle and glass clink. However, I felt it was a little too much. While there was great detail, it was a little forced and unnatural. It was very movie-like though!
The CR-2 was the smallest of the group and sounded very good too, but a little boxy compared to the VR series. The voices on this was very clear too. None of the three speakers sounded bad, but each had there own characteristics.

I found the VR-10 to be the best and most natural of the three, not the mention the most 'easy to listen to' center channel I've auditioned so far. The voices sounded like they were in the room with you and the balance between forefront and background noises were perfect. Nothing was overdone. I recommend this center channel to anyone who wants a great Boston setup.

AFTER CONNECTING THE VR10 INTO MY OLD SYSTEM THE IMMEDIATE DIFFERENCE WAS NIGHT AND DAY. CLARITY IN THE FORM OF SPEECH AND MUSIC WAS VERY EVIDENT. THAT CONVINCED ME TO UPGRADE THE REST OF MY SYSTEM TO BOSTON VR'S. COMPARING PRICE/PERFORMANCE TO OTHERS THE BOSTONS WHERE THE CLEAR WINNERS.

Strength:

Size, Clarity, Natural Sound.

Weakness:

Less bass than VR-12

I compared the VR-10 with PSB's Image 9C, Energy's e:XL center and an Acoustic Design center.
Compered to these other speakers, the VR-10 had the most natural and even sound for vocals and center channel effects. The others had dead spots between the tweeter and the woofer compared to the VR-10 with it's 3" mid. Plus it's a great match for my 10 year old 930s. The only complaint I have is that it does not have the lower frequency response of the PSB and the and VR-12, but the small size, great price/sound of the VR-10 makes the trade off work. (bass goes to the mains anyway.)
The VR-10's size is well proportioned with my 27" tv while delivering big sound. Other speakers were either to large (PSB) or unnatural sounding (e:XL and AD). This is a great speaker with a workable size, solid construction and superb sound.

Strength:

size, great sound

Weakness:

none so far

I was told by my local audio dealer that I had to use the vr-12's with my BA 965's(awesome speakers by the way). No way, the vr-10's work fantastic with my speakers. I used both(friend has one) but could not justify paying 100 or so more dollars on them when the vr-10's sounded so good. As it is now my cat runs and hides, and my neighbors think I'm building a bomb when any movies are played.
