I auditioned several center channel speakers before buying these, Bose (yuck), Klipsch, Atlantic Technology, Infinity, etc, basically anything approaching it's price range. Dollar for dollar, I believe this is the best center channel speaker money can buy. I could find nothing better in the $1,000 or less price range. These speakers reproduce sound without coloring. They do it effortlessly at low volume or high. Mine has been in use everday for 3 years with no sign of degradation. The only drawback is not a problem for me-this puppy is big and heavy. Mine sits on top of a 61 inch Toshiba Cinema Series, so it's great. Dispersion, due to the placement of drivers, is excellent. You cannot go wrong buying this center channel speaker.

I was told by some of my friends that paying $500 Canadian funds for this speaker was dumb......it only gives out the voices........WOW..my friends r really stupid......this is for any home thatre package the most important speaker..well.everything is important bit i think the centre has to be outstanding and this speaker is.....it is heavy and big and next to my 27" tv it was huge but now i got a Toshiba 36" and it looks good...when i bought this i had no idea i would get into dvd..this speaker was very avg. through my vcr because vcr tapes r sh*t/welfare but with dvd...i almost cry how good it is..listen to metallica's cunning stunts through this speaker in 5.1....i was bowing to the speaker...done even think twice..get this speaker..im sure the VR14 is damn good but i would highly..i say it again, highly recommend this sucker.

Strength:

Big clean sound.

I've also heard other centre speakers but the vr12 is the only one that got my attention.
It might be big but hey it can run the whole show by itself.
In gunshot scenes it feels like your the one being shot.
Also the voices of the actors makes it seem like their in the room with you. There is so much realism with this speakers it's just amazing.
I've got the Boston Acoustics vr40 floorstanders and when I disconect one and put the vr12 in it's place and just play stereo there's hardly any difference.Beautiful sound.
This is a great centre speaker so do yourself a favour and go have a listen.

I put my system togther in january. I have too say that buying the VR12 was one of the best investments that I made!! I have it paired with the VR970 (mains), and a pair of YAMAHA A636 (surrounds) and powered with an ONKYO 838 amp. I cound'nt belive how well they sounded togther!! You never have too ask what sombody said in a dialog in any movie or dvd your playing!! This beefy center throws sound right at you, no matter where your sitting!! It also matchs up very well with the VR970 (a deadly combo)!! Everyone that hears my system is amazed at how clear it sounds, inculding the wife ( she just dosen't like it loud )!! There's only two things this center speaker aks from you: 1. Space(it's fairly big)
2. lots of power (don't worry, it will take it!)
For the money, I think it's one of the best center speakers out on the market!! And if your looking for center speaker, I would recamend it with no problem!!

Best center channel speaker I have heard. Very open and detailed. Great dispersion due to the tweeter-mid drivers in a vertical array compared to the usual dual side-by-side bass drivers flanking a tweeter in a horizontal array. Nice, clean high end. Quite efficient and it can handle tremendous power without strain. Nice bass for a center channel. High build quality too.

Strength:

Wide dispersion of sound, Incredible bass response, Amazing Detail, Full Range Sound, Music ability

Weakness:

Can't stop listening to it

I recently replaced my VR 10 with this amazing speaker. I would say the biggest differences between the two are the sound dispersion and the bass response. Because of the VR 12’s size and it’s two active drivers the sound fills the room from ever position on the couch and the bass response is unbelievable. While watching Heavy Metal 2000 there is a seen where the villain shoots a gun at his crew and the bass from the gun blast almost blew me off the couch. The vocal response is also first rate and the larger 4 ½ inch mid driver really adds to it clarity.

If you can still find one of these, I highly recommend it. I was luck enough to find mine as a floor model in a 6.1 configuration at Sound Advice, it was the rear channel. I compared it to the VR 920 but I couldn’t tell a difference and because of the large mid range, I think it sounded better, plus for the price. If you can find one on EBAY I would seriously consider it, the VR 920 is $600 and anything under $400 would be a steal for this amazing center channel.

This is probably one of the best Center Channel speakers on the market that is affordable to most people. If you have a large room and do not think it can be filled with the tradditional 5 1/4" center channels, then this one is for you. It comes nicely equipped with two 165mm (6.5") polypropylene woofers, one 115mm (4.5") copolymer mid-range (oh, thats right, it is a 3-way speaker), and one 25mm (1") anodized aluminum dome tweeter.
This will fill your room with what is in the center and you will never have to go "what did they say". Be carefull and do not use this with a small, whimpy Infinity or JBL. Use caution when placing next to a small main.

The VR-12 is combined with a pair of VR-30's in my home theater. After hearing other center channels and the VR-10, I decided to spend the extra money for the VR-12. I did not realize the large difference a great center channel can make. I am really glad that I got the VR-12 rather than the VR-10. The price for the VR-12 is acceptable because of its great quality.

I recently upgraded my system to the entire Lynnfield experience (VR-12 Center, VR970 mains, VRS Pro Surrounds) and wanted to comment on the VR-12. This is an excellent center channel speaker. I've set it up as Large for the Dolby Digital processor and the dialog and center channel information is very clear and distinguished. I've noticed the VR-12 is quite a bit more efficient than the mains when balancing the output levels and required about a -6 db attenuation to ensure proper frontal balance. With the amplifier tone settings set at neutral, the sound is very balanced and even with adequate bass reproduction.
Overall, probably one of the very best center channel speakers I've heard. It's rather large and would look out of place on anything less than a 32" TV.
