This is a great speaker! I bought one while working at a high-end audio store. The price was right and it sounded better than a lot of other *very* expensive "centers". The vertical driver array is fantastic for people sitting the sides of the screen. |

I just purchased the VR12 for my home theatre and I am incredibly impressed. Why shouldn't I be, though? Boston Acoustics makes incredible, reasonably-priced speakers. My set-up includes a 7' Sharpvision LCD projection screen, 2 VR500 Subwoofers (front & rear), Definitive Technology bipolar surround speakers, and main speakers are the old Boston Acoustics A-400 that I purchased in 1984. they still sound great and match up with the VR12 with no problem. It is all driven by a Yamaha RXV-995. I usually am 14 feet from the VR12 and it more than easily fills the room. The highs are reporduced clearly and the dual woofers reproduce the voices in the right range. This speaker is incredible for the price and is highly recommended. |

What a great speaker! This thing always sounds good: wide, musical, and full soundstage. For about $400 you can't get a better center channel speaker. The vocal range is natural and real. Make sure you demo this monster against other centers, especially more expensive ones! Use your ears and you'll agree: this is the best center channel speaker in its price range and ABOVE its price range. ENJOY! |

To be quite frank, when I purchased this center channel speaker I was worried that I was spending too much money for my setup. The thing is that I'm still using the original speakers that I had from my top of the line Pioneer system that I bought in 1994. I just upgraded by buying a DVD player (Panasonic A110 with DTS) and the Yamaha RX-V795 with DTS. When I got my yamaha I was amazed at the difference in sound between it and my Pioneer Pro Logic receiver. I never thought that anything could make that much improvement in my sound until now. The VR-12 is like having a whole new system all over again. With 2 6 1/2s a 3 1/2 and a tweeter you are covered for all sound fields. When I hooked it up I was in awe of what I heard. It sounded so much clearer that it was unbelievable and it actually sounded like I had a sub woofer hooked up due to the great amount of base that this thing pumps out. Next I'll replace my rears which will probably be with Boston Acoustics and then to the mains. I save them for last because I think that they are the best part of the Pioneer speakers that I have and are of pretty good quality for now. I'm on a low budget because my wife isn't into this surround stuff quite as much as I am but when she heard the VR-12 she actually praised me for getting them. This is a truly amazing thing when my wife agrees with me spending $400 for a speaker. If you're looking for a center with awesome clarity and a punch with a lot of base then this speaker is for you. |

Quite possibility one of the best sounding center channels I have ever had the pleasure of listening to let alone owning. ALL aspects of it are just perfect, wonderfully rich midrange, superb mids and crystal clear hi's. true balanced design with deep life like sound, I cant say enough for this piece of equipment, or any of the lynnfield VR series (VR 40, 12, 500, and VRS) |

In trying to decide which center channel I wanted in a price range feasible for me, I came down to the Boston VR-12 and the Klipsch KSP-C6 Synergy Premiere center channel. Though the VR-12 is a fine speaker with excellent highs, it can't compare to the Klipsch center channel, listening to both in the same room, back and forth, the superiority of the Klipsch was more than evident. It hits all levels of sound much better than the Boston, with better efficiency. The Boston ultimately had a much greater "speaker" sound to it, where the sound reproduced didn't sound like it was actually coming directly out of the speaker cabinet, but you could tell it was a speaker TRYING to reproduce the sound, where the klipsch was dynamic, rich, simply perfect. Though the VR-12 retails for 400, while the KSP-C6 retails for 100 more at 500, the series has been discontinued and the price is extremely low right now. At a local HI-FI audio retailer, Bryn Mawr Audio Video, I was able to pick this beauty up for a mere 279. This speaker is a much better buy at 100 dollars more, let alone for 120 dollars LESS. With a cabinet made of HDF and simply top of the line Klipsch components, this speaker took my breath away. For the Boston, I'd give it a 4, but the Klipsch deserves a 6 on that level. |

Strength:
Excellent sound for the price.
Weakness:
The cabinet is huge! This is an awesome center channel for the price. I compared to the VR10 and thought the VR12 blew it away. Much more lifelike and detailed. Would recommend it highly. |

Full dynamic sound range
Weakness:
Big, Cabinet design. I almost made the horrible mistake of selling my Boston VR12. I hade seen a Definitive Technology CLR 2002 in a home theater store and loved the sound and the way it looked. It matched my stereo system with its black luster shine. I bought it and brought it home for a test run. It did sound nice but I was missing something. I complete realized that my full range was missing some mids and highs. I needed another opinion so I knocked on his door and over he came. Verdict, the boston blew the doors off of the Definitive Technology Center. Back the Definitive went and good old trusty Boston reclaimed its Home on top of the Widescreen Purch. I have also just purchased the Brand New Boston VR-MX surround speakers to match up with the Boston Center. They sound great. The other surrounds that Boston offered the VRS and VRS Pros just could not deliver great sounds performance. Similar Products Used: Definitive Technology clr 2002 |
