Strength:

Great Look, Crystal clear highs with a great mid range

Weakness:

None so far

I bought this center from Circuit City(floor model) for $400.00. I also purchased the IL 40's. Overall this is one of the best Centers I've heard in a long time, for the price. Before I decided to go with Infinity's, I listened to the Polk cs400i center and the RT800i towers. I was amazed at how much clearer the Infinity IL36 was. The Polk sounded muddy next to the IL36 and even the mid range (which Polk is known for) was much sharper and clearer with the IL36.
I upgraded from the Infinity CC-3 (which I was extremely happy with) because I liked the new look of the Interlude series speakers. When I compared the cc-3 with the IL36 the highs were similar but the overall sound from the IL36 was 10 times better. The IL 36c is also much louder than the
cc-3. With my Sony 777es I can't turn the volume past 2 without my neighbors knocking on the door. With the cc-3 the neighbors knock when the volume is around 4. My neighbors love me :) :). As you can tell I highly recommend the Interlude IL36 and IL40's.

Strength:

Tight bass, picks up frequencies from 55 Hz and above with perfection. Amazing sound field and voice clarity.

Weakness:

If you have limited space this is not a speaker for you.. It is huge

Infinity stays true to its word. It doesn't gimmick its customers by saying this speaker runs from 20 - 20000 Hz. IL-36C picks up frequencies from 55Hz and above with perfection. Very tight bass, excellent voice and dynamic response.

You gotta be deaf not to agree that this is the best speaker out there for about $500 for center channel.

The ceramic metal matrix speker material has the best dynamic response I've heard in speakers. Once you get used to infinity's ceramic metal matrix speaker's dynamic response it is hard to appreciate any other speaker out there.

My System:
Onkyo TX-DS575X Receiver
Onkyo C501 DVD Player
IL40 - Front Main Speakers
IL36 - Center Speaker
IL10 - Rear Surround Speakers

Strength:

Good natural sound, well balanced

Weakness:

Size

The Infinity speakers defintely need breaking in. When I first brought the set home (including IL40's for front, IL10's for rear and IL120 for sub and Denon 3802), I was wondering what purchase did I make. The set sounded very harsh, nothing like the home theatry set-up at the store and I was not an Infinity fan from test experiences in the mid 80's.

However, after a couple of months, the set sounds fantastic. These speakers, probably due to the Ceramic Matric cones, need at least 50 hours of time before they sound good. More time and they just sound even better and natural.

Give them time and you'll be very pleased.

Weakness:

silver color grill. very big.

Just got the 36c today and hooked it up with my Infinity RS5's,RS3's and BU-120 Sub. The RS5's I got yesterday(Love them). I like this speaker a lot, but wonder if I was mislead as far as matching well with the RS series. Was originally going to buy a CC3, but was told the 36c would match. Was watching "The Matrix" and when dialogue moved between the rs5 front to the il36 center I noticed a pretty big tone difference. Maybe needs to be broken in. Other wise the speaker is awesome (bit too big), not used to that monster on top of TV. I also was guaranteed a black grill, but the silver one showed up. why would anyone put a silver colored grill on a center channel speaker, it distracts from the TV screen.

Any one else with rs series and an il36c, would appreciate any advice on tone matching you may have done.
My system:
front: rs5
rear: rs3
center: il-36c
sub: bu-120
receiver: technics sa-ax6 with separate digital/dts decoder
dvd: toshiba 2108
vcr: why bother hehe

Weakness:

No true sounding bass-mid bass thuddy-hollow sounding. Home Theater was definitely this speakers greatest weakness.Could not handle the most demanding seens in movies such as U571. Expensive without any true sound quality.

I purchased the IL36 0n a recommendation by a friend, took it home and hooked it up and my wife who is not a audio enthusiast could not tell the difference between DCMS $150 center and the IL36. I could tell a big difference in the output of sound, but was totally unhappy with the complete tonal balance. I have since purchased JM Labs CC30 for $850 and as soon as i hooked it up not only did my wife absolutely love it,she picked out the sound qualitys that weren't even heard out of the other centers. Now yes i spent more money but i listened to JM Labs CC20 which is only $100 more then the IL36 and completely blows it away. My warning do not get talked into wasting your $ on the IL36. For anyone who is in the market for the most tonally neatral, dynamic sounding center on the market in my opinion, without spending $3000 or more the CC30 just blows the copetition away. Give it a listen before wasting time and money like i did.

Tight bass, great mids, and sharp highs

Weakness:

Well after having to deal with my bose setup for so long I decided it was time for a change. After listening to various setups I went with infinity. I originally got the IL25c center channel but took it back cause I found a good deal on the 36c. I figured if the 25c sounded good the 36c had to sound good. I was right. This is an incredible center channel. My last problem with my bose was that voices would practically disappear once action hit the screen. That is no longer a problem. Voices are as clear as day even when Independence Day on DVD is rockin the speakers.

What was used in my setup was the IL36C, pair of IL40 towers, and IL10 bookshelves.

Strength:

this is by far the best center ive ever hear. the osund is crisp and clean. combined with complete surround speakers this is a great system for anyone wishing to get the top of the line. I work at circuit city and extensively tested all the speakers. Infinity was by far the cleanest sound produced. well worth the price.

Weakness:

size. this is a large speaker, but you have to in order to create the field it does.

the speaker has an exquisite sound. Without a sub a room full of these infinity type speakers will give you a very realistic sound. compared to the other top end speaker we sell at circuit city the sound field could not be matched. We tested the eagles dvd with dts on the system with an hk avr7000. an exellent receiver by the way if you can afford the sticker price. When the eagles sang on most other speakers it sounded like a recording, Switching to the infinity series we could tell the room the eagles were singing in was there. a wide theatre not a small room. very realistic and just like being at the concert.

Strength:

Excellent sound through the full frequency range, great looks, intimidating presence!

Weakness:

The silver grille has got to go. Why make the black grille an option? Infinity should distribute this speaker with the option of either color.

Well, I picked out this center channel with the intention that it would be everything that I wanted it to be. It is everything that I wanted it to be and then some. It sounds so much clearer than the other models mentioned above and has excellent highs, mids, and bass. This is definitely the best-sounding center channel speaker I have heard, and I've heard quite a few, including models from Paradigm and Polk, among others. I live in a dorm room right now, and some people may think what I've done is overkill, but I'm very proud of the whole audio/visual setup that my roommate and I have created here at Furman University. No doubt we have the best setup on campus!!!

Center Channel: Infinity IL36c
Fronts: Infinity RS-10 (I love the built-in subs; perfect for the dorm)
Rears: Infinity Kappa 5.1 Series II
TV: Mitsubishi WT-46807
DVD: (2) Sony DVP-C650D
CD Player: Sony CA70ES
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V795a
Wiring: Various Monster Cable

Ok, I may seem like an idiot for having the Kappas in the rear. Can someone help me out? I don't know whether to put the Kappas as the front speakers b/c of their incredible highs or leave the system as-is. I had an idea of putting the RS-10s in the rear. Email me if you can help me out. Thanks!!

I hope I helped someone out there on their decision for a center channel. Again, this is THE BEST center channel that I've heard. Fell free to email me with any questions or comments you may have.
