Picked over the great name of BOSE need I say more

For the best surround sound your center channel is probably the most important speaker. Listen to ALL other's two way center channels and even to BOSE..You'll pick the JBL everytime

Couldn't be happier with mine, highly Recommend
Vendors wide price range..DON'T pay more than $170

System:

Fronts: JBL S312's
Rears: JBL S38's
Center: JBL S-Centre
Sub: JBL PB12
Receiver: Sony STRDE-1075

Talk about wanting to rock the house. This system is kicking and is definately the best bang for buck you can get. I had dealer when shopping around say that he doesn't deal with low-end stuff like JBL, but the way I figure it he doesn't know what he's smoking because all those concert and stadium halls must know something hooking up there system's with JBL's and I am definately a satisfied home user. You can not go wrong with this system and the S-Center is the perfect center channel. Forget the Bose! (please note I am not a Bose basher)...

Strength:

full range of sound in a center channel

Weakness:

None

understanding that the center channel is the most important speaker on a surround system, I decided to spend most of my budget on the center channel. Listened to Bose, Sony, Yamaha and others and pick this one.

System:
JBL S-Center (150)
Cewin Vega LW-12 Sub (175)
JBL TLX 181 main (130)
Lanzar Bx 548 Surround (50)
Pioneer VSX 509 receiver (200)
Sony MF 315 b-channel (115)

Great sounding combination. Cheap (less than $800 total)

Strength:

The look, in general, it's just great.

Weakness:

can't notice any

this is the best center channel you can buy for under $500. Period. Don't even look anywhere else unless you have an extra $1000 to spend.

This speaker would have had at least 4.85 if two amatuer idiots who can't even hook a speaker to amp didn't give it a 1 rating which affected the overall rating. Those ratings should be removed since they were using a broken speaker or possibly a broken brain. Look below for their ratings and forget about them and go with what everyone else says.

LOVE JBL!!

Strength:

Great clear sound!

Weakness:

None!

I had been using the Bose VCS 10 as my center speaker, but I had to strain to hear dialog in movies when there was a lot of action going on. I finally got fed up, and went speaker shopping at Best Buy. I immediately fell in love with the JBL S-Center speaker. I didn't want to pay retail, so I went to my old standby; eBay, and bought a brand new one for around $150 including shipping.

The difference in sound was amazing! The dialog was now loud and clear. I no longer have to strain to hear anything. I can crank my system as loud as I want, and never lose what's being said.

So, I packed up my Bose, put it up for auction, and guess what? It brought more than I paid for the JBL! Is that great or what?

Strength:

The clarity (especially in it's price class!)

Weakness:

None so far

I bought these thing to complement a set of JBL S-38s and a Yamaha YST-160 Sub. I haven't been dissappointed. They blend well (acoustically, not visually...they are big) and offer incredible sound considering the price point (under US$200 easily if you shop around). I highly recommend them. The bass doesn't go below 80hz, but hey, that's what the Yamaha is for anyway. ;-)

Strength:

open, efficient, affordable, wide range

Weakness:

dont like the looks with the grille off, a little too flashy

fits on my 35 inch tv great, very efficient, kinda bright, thats good to me in a home theatre getup, $200.00 was asking price at hhgregg, which is a good deal already, but if you buy from gregg, keep on the salesman for bottom dollar, they have room, and will deal. I paid 161.00, was able to listen before I bought, and still matched some of the best deals on the net, and if i blow it up, i'll take it back & get another.

Strength:

Clarity, definition, remote, THX

Weakness:

Size - too deep

I bought this receiver to replace my 508, which wasnt cutting. This baby can really rock the house, no matter if is with music or with movies, it´s 10 times better than the 508. The dsp was mostlly annoying, I usually listen to music in stereo and to movies in the standard or thx setting.
I was looking for a receiver in the range of 550-650. I consider the denon 2801, but with the realeability issues brought by the reviews of the 2800 model in this site, this one was quicklly dismissed. I also consider the yamaha 995, which was 630,00 but I hated the remote, and the unit sound too bright for my taste. Other was the new pioneer model, elite 33, this one was for 630,00 also, but it had less power and a cheaper AD converter. So the choice was obvious, although I believe it will soon be discontinued, for 599,00 its the best bang for the buck.
