I purchased this Center Channel from HH Gregg two years ago. I have found this center to be excellent. The dialogue is great. You may not get a much bass, however with a proper sub, you won''t need bass. I have two JBL Subs, front speakers JBL S-28, tow JBL surrounds, Yamaha 564 Receiver, Pioneer DVD and Mitsubishi 50" Screen.

great sound. Bought instead of N center because it sounded so mucj better. I have a problem though with distortion on TV when playing loud DVD cranked up. Used Monster cables so its not that anyone else? If it move the center distortion goes away. It belongs on top of TV, so I dont want to move it. Curiuos on other people encountering the same. Best Buy sucks and Etronics ROCKS!! Best Buy was charging $100 more for this speaker...c''mon. Great center channel speaker to round out the JBL S38''s I bought a few weeks prior to it.

Bose sucks!! Pioneers are alright. Alpines are really nice and I think Klipsch are over priced, but good speakers as well. JBL''s have a very reputible name and this is the reason why.

An okay speaker for the price. Has a bit of a ''plastic case'' sound to it, like most speakers in this range. Did not sound good compared to my left and right DefTech BP10s and I had to move up to a DefTech 2300 to equal the BP10s. Better in a low end home theater.

Strength:

Clean, Crisp sound. Good bass and Midrange.

Weakness:

None that I have discovered so far.

From everything I have listen to so far, this speaker is very good. Especially for the price. I was able to get it for about $170 shipped. Now my only problem is deciding if I should get the S38's or the S310's. Decisions, Decisions... JBL has done a great job with the Studio series.

Strength:

Great. Clear, and warm with great projecton, and excellent horizontal dispersion

Weakness:

None.

I really am impressed with this unit. Unlike the HLS center, the S Center covers the room properly with center channel dialouge. It doesn't have the narrow sweet spot the HLS is plagued with.
I liked the HLS, but was not happy with the narrow dispertion. And. although the problem CAN be cured by rotating the horn 90 degrees, I basically wanted an excuse to upgrade to the "S" center. Simply a warmer, fuller sounding speaker. I've had it almost two months, and I still am as pleased with it, as the day I first bought it.
You don't have to pay ridiculous prices for obscure and accepted "audiophile" brands, and the HLS center is proof.
The price of this piece is simply icing on the cake.

Strength:

A well made exceptionally strong sounding unit!

Weakness:

1. The sound at times is a bit to "bright"
2. The larger size might be a turn-off.

The S-Center is a clean, clear audio product makes watching movies with a lot of dialog like Austin Powers, Big Lebowski and Ferris Bueller's Day Off a more enjoyable.

After trying out the Polk CS-300, Inifinity CC-2 and this JBL S-Center I went with the JBL because of the clarity and the depth of the sound spectrum it could produce. The Polk's were warmer sounding but the clarity wasn't as defined. The Infinity's I was immediately turned off by the lack of clarity all together in all audio samples I tried.

With the way the speaker handles the smooth transition on-screen to off-screen (panning from L->R,R->L) audio crystal clear.

I bought my unit from One Call (http://www.onecall.com) for $169 + S&H) and I feel like it was a great deal.

Strength:

Excellant for value, great power and accurate sound spectrum

Weakness:

Great for dialouge. It is a pleasure listening to movies, with this accurate spacious center. JBL is looking good with the Studio series. The great thing is the price. You can pay $400.00 at the highest price and the lowest price in which you have to be a member at Shop4.com for I believe after shipping $167 or $170. You wont be dissapointed.

I purchased this speaker at online auction for about $150. I have been very pleased with the ability of this speaker to reproduce dialogue as well as other on screen information.I specifically bought it because it has a titanium tweeter hoping it would match the titanium tweeters in my vintage JBL's. It was as good a match that I could hope for considering it would be ideal if all speakers matched. Overall I am very pleased with performance, price and looks of this speaker.
